I'm a red Sox fan and this was one year I wouldn't have minded the Yankees taking the title... After all that city went through that year. Heck rivalry is out the window once tragedy strikes. Those three games in NY were amazing though and the people there deserved those three classics. To this day, this stands out as the greatest WS I ever witnessed. Yankees were outslugged, out hit, and out pitched and still pushed it to 7 games and came within three outs of pulling it off. Hats off to both teams that year.
Man the intro and especially jesse mcguire doin the national anthem the way he did, still gives me goosebumps, still chokes me up a bit. That was beautiful, fitting for such a great series.
Yeah, I've heard the same guy once or twice before (or after?) seeing some Phoenix Suns games inside the America West Arena or U.S. Airways Center (back when the Talking Stick Resort Arena was named one of those names), and he always does great things with the trumpet there!
All loyal d-backs fans will and never should forget this season. In order to be a diehard though, you must also remember 2004 just as fondly as this season. Go D-backs! Even as I watch you lose 90 games again this year.
This is my favorite World Series ever. I think it's the only World Series where baseball went back to there old school roots. That was probably because of 9/11. Fox use to make the post season and World Series feel like it was the biggest game. I don't know why they changed after 2008 I think it was. Does anybody else notice the MLB post season and World Series coverage is not the same now as it was in 2001?
Honestly I just searched World Series game 7 and this was the first result from 2001 out of like 50 results.. wayyyyy underrated World Series and definitely the best of all time. Couldn’t script a better series! The Cubs/Indians wasn’t nearly as good
I Saw Dr Jessie in New Jersey this Summer at the 2014 USA Games Closing it was an unforgettable National Anthem one of the Best I ever heard in my Life Tears in my Eyes Flowed down my Face Because I Was Told In High School No I Couldn't Compete and No I couldn't have a Chance.. and I turned All Doubters in to Believers it Was one of the Greatest Weeks of My life and Dr Jessie Caped it off and I couldn't be More Blessed :)
This was, in my opinion, an absolutely perfect world series. Each team won all of their home games. A new young team vs the baseball dominant Yankees.. And it comes down to the bottom of the ninth with one last chance, how can you ever ask for a better world series then this? I was only 11 when it happened but I still remember it like yesterday, and I went to one of the Dbacks earlier home games in this series, like game 2 or something, and it was intense.
steve finley lead the start off at bat. got a hit then jay bell got the winning run. This was probably the most epic WS win in history considering that it was against the Yankees, Mariano Rivera was a closing machine, and we were trailing by 2 runs. That's what made this World Series so special.
Bein a Die Hard Yankees fan This one Really Hurt But I never forgot the Tragic events that where unfolded in new york on September 11,2001 the Diamond Backs and My favorite Baseball Player Craig Counsell deserved to win that night but I think this world series for me will always be a heart break but if i had to loose to anyone I rather lose to Craig counsell and his team but looking back on game 7 it was just a great series between two great teams...
Of course the country wanted the yankees to win, but if they would have won, the series would have been considered "stolen." In the series the Dbacks outscored the yankees 37-14, blew two save opportunities (both of which were 2 run leads), and held the yankees to a .183 series batting average (a 7 game series record). The yankees took the series to seven games in unbelievable fashion, but statistically were outplayed. Certainly would have been fitting for the yanks to win, but AZ earned it.
The best World Series ever. before Boston created, 'Make history or We're History' that was the Yankees in this World Series but they failed with a 0-3 deficit and 3 years later with a 3-0 lead. It's not good to be the Yankees in game 7 situations
best world series of all time. too bad i was too drunk to really understand the greatness of game 7 at the time. but i was in phx and watched with fans in a packed bar, which was awesome. we yelled in the streets and people honked their horns. with the whole 9/11 vibe at the time just made it something that will never happen again. the feeling of defeating the yankees that year and fucking curt and randy at their prime in a WS game 7 that was won in the 9th inning by the man gonzo. never again.
Despite the way this game ended (& despite my Yankee fandom), I don't look at this as a series that they let slip away. (My 11-year-old self certainly thought that they let it slip away, however.) The D'Backs were the better team throughout the series, & they should've won it in 5 games, anyway.
*****: I felt the same way when Soriano hit the home run (as far as who would win). Unfortunately, I was wrong. Since my parents didn't let me stay up to watch the end of the game, I didn't cry until I woke up the next morning & saw what happened.
*****: He was better against lefty batters, though (because of how his cutter would just completely tie them up). It just didn't work out in this game (which happens to everyone at some point)
@vorsdec Gonzo didn't ruin it for us. Tony Womack was the one who turned that whole series around with his double down the line to tie the game. I would argue that was the biggest, most significant hit in the past decade of baseball and nobody remembers it. That was the play that absolutely stunned me and crushed my spirit. Up until that point I thought we were going to win. After that I knew we wouldn't.
Even though my team the Yankees lost this is the greatest World Series ever played the emotion the drama the comebacks and the game 7 ending hit both teams played pretty good
This was the greatest series I've ever seen. The Diamondbacks were huge favorites going into the series, and they dominated the Yankees in the first two games. But Games 3-5 were come from behind, emotional victories in New York after the 9/11 attacks. I was there for Game 5. There was a mom and his son crying in front of me after the Yankees won Game 5. Their father died on 9/11, a huge Yankees fan. The way Game 7 ended, against all odds, against Mo, was so fitting.
No such thing as a huge favorite in baseball, compared to other sorts anyway, that said, yanks were favorites going in, not only as 3 time defending champs but just handily beat a much better than dbacks Mariners team
Braves and Diamondbacks 2001 NLCS was a great game (Braves Fan) but the Diamondbacks deserved the world series cause they took the Yankees to a fight not a game but a Game 7 fight a true World Series. Curt took Clemens to a fight in the end but overall Great World Series my second favorite behind the 1995 series
@vorsdec The Yanks had already won 3 straight WS before 2001, so they had a good enough run. Granted, they came awfully close to winning 4 straight WS, but it was meant to be the Diamondbacks' turn in the end... :-)
@FOOSAG Hate to break it to you man, but Jay Bell actually scored the winning run for the D-backs. That's Craig Counsell next to Gonzo But, Counsell did score the winner for the Marlins in '97.
@Saboteur117 Agreed; it took us a long time to heal from 9-11, & we're still trying to do it 10 years later. But for those few weeks in October that year, we got to see some great postseason baseball, capped off with a fantastic World Series. It was a nice break from the horror & tragedy of 9-11....
Basically if they cant make money off it they dont want it posted Yeah this brings back alot of memories, I live in Phoenix and cleary remember this game, and it was so cool to see this on RUclips and I thank you. And It was cool to see the Jesse McGuire National Anthem on here after it got taken off here
probably the last great world series weve had in the last 10 15 years the type of clutch hitting and pitching...i still remember randy johnson pitching the ninth inning in game 7 24 hours after starting game 6
@naDarkHaze Agreed; but let's not forget, although the Diamondbacks franchise was only 4 years in existence at the time, they had a ton of veteran players as well( Randy Johnson, Schilling, Matt Williams, etc. )that knew all about postseason play. Plus, most of those guys hadn't won a championship before & were hungry to taste their 1st championship. But yeah, what a Series it turned out to be:-)
The 1991 World Series (Twins-Braves) was in my estimation, the best World Series ever (or at least in my lifetime). It doesn't get the credit that it deserves I feel, because it didn't involve Boston, New York, Chicago or LA.
This world series probably had to be the highest tv rating of all time like a superbowl tv rating because it was a month after 9/11 and all the emotion frm the people weather you were a yankee fan or a dbacks fan or just a person wanting to get a way from the drama of 9/11 was into this world series. Those games at yankee stadium was amazing I remember watching those games in my mind I was like how do the yankees keep winning.
Even if the yankees didn't come out on top, still my favorite and the best world series of all time. Screw the big red machine/carlton fisk world series.
I also miss this pregame show of fox during the early 2000s. It had more energy and excitement. And with that music for MLB back then that was bad ass. you knew its was a big game. Now even last year game 7 with the rangers and cardinals it didnt get that same feel like in this video. Its like fox is lazy now they decide to go to the NFL theme music and pre game shows that feels like it lasts only for 5 seconds They need to go back to this.
@balianmachiavelli : do u know if anyone has the entire game 7 2001 world series on here? cause all i have seen is bits and pieces of it and not the whole thing. If u can please respond back to when u get the chance please.
@PeoplesWar That's what happens you go from an ownership who will open up the bank account as much as possible (Jerry Colengelo) to a guy who is scared to pay anybody a penny (Kendrick).
That crowd is nuts
As a Yankee fan even though we lost, i can honestly say that this was one of the greatest World Series I have ever watched
Can’t believe it’s 20 years.
That intro gives me chills. Totally captures the energy of that world series.
the electricity in the ballpark that night was insane. i will never have that feeling ever again at a baseball game.
Man the intro and especially jesse mcguire doin the national anthem the way he did, still gives me goosebumps, still chokes me up a bit. That was beautiful, fitting for such a great series.
that national anthem was un fucking believable. Best trumpet I've ever heard. Props sir.
Yeah, I've heard the same guy once or twice before (or after?) seeing some Phoenix Suns games inside the America West Arena or U.S. Airways Center (back when the Talking Stick Resort Arena was named one of those names), and he always does great things with the trumpet there!

Go D-backs! Even as I watch you lose 90 games again this year.
Would love to see the intro for all 7 games. This was the greatest World Series ever!!!
I remember every intro being fire. They had a coldplay song on one of em, game 6 maybe.
Yankee fan here. 2001 WS was the greatest WS of all time. Every moment.
I watch this video every year as Spring Training creeps closer! Go Dbacks!
What an amazing intro.
Jesse McGuire fucking nailed it!
This is my favorite World Series ever. I think it's the only World Series where baseball went back to there old school roots. That was probably because of 9/11. Does anybody else notice the MLB post season and World Series coverage is not the same now as it was in 2001?
Yep, and the old FOX baseball theme was epic. Just doesn't feel the same anymore.
Honestly I just searched World Series game 7 and this was the first result from 2001 out of like 50 results.. wayyyyy underrated World Series and definitely the best of all time. Couldn’t script a better series! The Cubs/Indians wasn’t nearly as good

What a phenomenal montage. Those were the days!
xajang11 the song at 5:00 is Get Ready For This by 2 Unlimited...classic sports anthem from the mid '90s.
The night my life on this Earth began and I had an eternal bond with the Diamondbacks. 11/04/2001
One of the greatest sports intros of all time. I’m 49.
Can MLB fox bring back that theme from 1996 to 2006 to celebrate 20 years of MLB on fox???
+Ceegee Money They really should bring it back.
And have Hans Zimmer rearrange and reorchestrate the theme song.
Best pitching matchup in World Series history, Randy Johnson killing a dove and winning a World Series in the same year is epic lol
This was, in my opinion, an absolutely perfect world series. Each team won all of their home games. A new young team vs the baseball dominant Yankees.. And it comes down to the bottom of the ninth with one last chance, how can you ever ask for a better world series then this? One run. Rivera never gave up a 2 run lead in the playoffs
that opening intro was actually pretty cool.
This is the only time in my life that an opera song ever made me cry. I hate opera. Love this intro though.
Sarajevo by U2 and Luciano Pavarotti
Given its historical context it's the best ever, but as far as the best baseball based world series, it doesn't top the 1991 series.
The National Anthem is the best part of this pregame show. That was beautiful.
I think this is the most epic intro to a baseball game there has ever been.
Of course the country wanted the yankees to win, but if they would have won, the series would have been considered "stolen." I hope the Diamondbacks make it to the World Series this year
The best World Series ever.
before Boston created, 'Make history or We're History'
that was the Yankees in this World Series but they failed with a 0-3 deficit and 3 years later with a 3-0 lead.
It's not good to be the Yankees in game 7 situations
Jesse McGuire's rendition of the national anthem was amazing, gave me goosebumps.
the 2001 playoffs/world series, in my mind, were the greatest in the game's history
best world series of all time. too bad i was too drunk to really understand the greatness of game 7 at the time. but i was in phx and watched with fans in a packed bar, which was awesome. we yelled in the streets and people honked their horns. with the whole 9/11 vibe at the time just made it something that will never happen again. the feeling of defeating the yankees that year and fucking curt and randy at their prime in a WS game 7 that was won in the 9th inning by the man gonzo. never again.
This was just as good as Jordan in 98’
without a doubt the greatest world series i've ever seen,

I want a video of just Jessie playing the National Anthem. That was incredible.
moments can't express this series. This has to be the number 1 GREATSET series of all time
4:31 "Sometimes [Clemens] needs some help" that's right, he got plenty of help from juice =P
Even though my team the Yankees lost this is the greatest World Series ever played the emotion the drama the comebacks and the game 7 ending hit both teams played pretty good

The best WS ever
I miss that FOX baseball theme. Even the orchestral one in 2007 was good. Now the football one? Get outta here!
Goosebumps...
@vorsdec The Yanks had already won 3 straight WS before 2001, so they had a good enough run. Granted, they came awfully close to winning 4 straight WS, but it was meant to be the Diamondbacks' turn in the end... :-)
FOX and us are really going to miss Joe Buck during the World Series
Sameee
You got that right. The new play by play is much worse.
@FOOSAG Hate to break it to you man, but Jay Bell actually scored the winning run for the D-backs. That's Craig Counsell next to Gonzo
But, Counsell did score the winner for the Marlins in '97.
That image of Ray Charles @1:11 always gets me.

Who is the guy at 1:14
@@texascard Ray Charles
what a kick ass intro!
tears of joy
i hope this years postseason is like this
probably the last great world series weve had in the last 10 15 years the type of clutch hitting and pitching...i still remember randy johnson pitching the ninth inning in game 7 24 hours after starting game 6
I wonder if this is why Derek Jeter asked out of the 2011 All-Star Game, which is in the same park where the 1st & last 2 games of this World Series
I have the full game on vhs. Big D-Back fan here. Not sure how to convert it to digital or anything though.
@Yonkers444 Same here man. Die hard Yankee fan but this was the greatest World Series I've seen and probably will ever see.
@naDarkHaze Agreed; but let's not forget, although the Diamondbacks franchise was only 4 years in existence at the time, they had a ton of veteran players as well( Randy Johnson, Schilling, Matt Williams, etc. )that knew all about postseason play. Jesse McGuire did the national anthem at my opening day for my little league that year
dude...that pom pom effect is sick
that was a great game!
Its funny how the Diamondbacks were so big in 2001 and now they're nothing.
The 1991 World Series (Twins-Braves) was in my estimation, the best World Series ever (or at least in my lifetime). It doesn't get the credit that it deserves I feel, because it didn't involve Boston, New York, Chicago or LA.
Watching this just for the intro.
Best intro ever!
Thanks for watching.

i love the energy
The all star game for home field was not in effect in 2001, the home field was still on a rotating bases.
That is a intimidating arizona crowd. The fact that the pom poms are going in a synchronized fashion make it look like the beating of a speaker
what opera song is playing in the beginning? ?? someone please tell me
+TheJcn010 it's beautiful right? The song is U2 & Luciano Pavarotti - miss sarajevo
Us folks sitting at home in AZ were going nuts too.
"Mystique and Aura? Those are dancers at a nightclub."
this game made me cry lol
Greatest World Series, period
They could have shown a bit of the Arizona offense in game 6. They didnt have to show Randy for the game 6
@smo699 Hands down, it was the greatest ever. No doubt about it.
That national anthem still gives me chills. Back when patriotism meant something.
Aaron Scarpa sadly it became a fad as 2001 drew to a close.
Even if the yankees didn't come out on top, still my favorite and the best world series of all time. Screw the big red machine/carlton fisk world series.
@FOOSAG The game winning run was scored by Jay Bell, not Craig Counsell. :)\
anyone know where I can buy that purple d-backs cap from?
@pigness Wow, I did also...pure awesomeness and I hope I get to see another world series like this before I die.
I also miss this pregame show of fox during the early 2000s. It had more energy and excitement. And with that music for MLB back then that was bad ass. you knew its was a big game. @5StarGeneralXenoCO
The Diamondbacks dominated the series outscoring the Yankees 37-14. The Yankees were lucky to get as far as they did.
The crowd was goin crazy! Looks like a Penn State white out!!
Best World Series ever
does anyone know how much this world series hurt. it was like having a knife pierce your chest. i still get depressed when i think about it
@naDarkHaze ya man after 911 and everything going on - so amazing
The ' Game 7'
@balianmachiavelli : do u know if anyone has the entire game 7 2001 world series on here? cause all i have seen is bits and pieces of it and not the whole thing. If u can please respond back to when u get the chance please.
@PeoplesWar That's what happens you go from an ownership who will open up the bank account as much as possible (Jerry Colengelo) to a guy who is scared to pay anybody a penny (Kendrick).
whats the music in the begining
November 4 2001 the last day of the baesball season.
@JasonLA92
you still have Joe buck and Tim Mcarver lol
