      A good point, but all the best blues singers were hearing it as pure experience separated from US cultural baggage by being British, and then lighting it up with this freedom they'd never had before. They really had nothing like the blues and rock in the UK so it pollinated into....basically all the best of classic rock.

    • @RadeticDaniel
      @RadeticDaniel 2 года назад

      I still like the original Beatles arrangement better, but you are right about one thing, Joe Cocker's covers are a work of his own in arranging and interpreting.
      So many of his versions like You Are So Beautiful and Unchain My Heart for me are the best versions of each song =D
      And his version of With a Little Help From My Friends is easily the second best recording of it by far!!!

    The closest singer to Joe Cocker, and what you liked about him, was his contemporary, Janis Joplin. If you haven't reacted to her, the live performance of Ball And Chain from the Monterrey Pop Festival is a stellar performance.

I get fuckin' chills! Every. Damn. Time!!! But my favorite part, is probably when the camera pans over to Mama Cass Elliot's face in the audience a couple times, and you can see her jaw just drop and her mouth, "WOW!" Janis was one of a kind, man...

    • @joelmeeks8683

      So while this song resonates with the Beatles version he took blue eyed soul before it's time and prog rock and whatever Joe singing really is like and mushed it into something quite original. Still feels like rock similar to ELP and BTO and guess who but at the same time rock was soul sped up and this was just rock slowed down so to speak.

    Old Beatles song, that he covered, and made it a huge hit. John Lennon said, "I guess this song now belongs to Joe, our (Beatles) good friend." He actually had another hit written by The Beatles, "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window". Joe Cocker is a British "Soul singer" that died in the last few years at about age 75 I think. What a voice.

    "What genre is this?"......... It's just called Joe Cocker genre. The man was on a level all on his own. He didn't just sing. He felt every note deep down in his soul.

    Watching your face and the happy smile that started once Joe started singing makes this video so much better. Joe Cocker has always been one of my favorites, although I admittedly don't even have a record by him. (My mom has, though ;-) )
    It's just a singer who, once a song comes on, makes me smile happily.
    What a voice.

    Joe's voice and style is very unique. Try listening to "The Letter", "She came in through the Bathroom Window", or "Delta Lady". "Whiter Shade of Pale" is another one of his brilliant covers you really should check out if nothing else! Joe was reportedly strongly influenced by Ray Charles.

    Should have watched the same song from the Woodstock Concert. Try to find "The Letter" from the Mad Dogs And Englishmen tour featuring Joe Cocker and Leon Russel. Saw the movie of this concert in the early 70s and the whole concert was great. Joe took any song and made it his own. R.I.P. Joe Cocker.

    This was a cover of a Beatles song. I hope you know who the Beatles are if not please find out who they are. Joe Cocker did a lot of covers and did them his way. One of my favourites by him is Delta Lady. This genre is ROCK. Rock is a fusion of a number of different influences. Blues, jazz, folk, classical and even Medieval music. Music wasn't pidgen holed back then like it is today. If you can find the version with Leon Russell or the Woodstock version it is even better. Cheers
