    This excellent Ted Talk just scratches the surface of what John Biewen is talking about. His podcasts (Scene On Radio) on "Seeing White," "Men," "The Land That Has Not Yet Been" are far more in depth and revealing than what can be presented here. Amazing journalism! I urge anyone to check them out!

    John, this was SO Amazing and refreshing to hear from a wonderful white brother who gets it!
    I am so very encouraged and enriched by your talk on this subject. Much of the background history you gave I already know but to hear you expound upon in the ears of white brethren who have not heard it put this way - well just let me say, it brings sheer joy to my heart. Please keep the Great going and I will try and locate your podcast. God Bless.

    One of the most straight forward, yet eloquent speeches about racism - by simply stating the facts and the truth. Thank you John Biewen 🙏This Ted Talk needs to be shared...

    "If I'm not joining the struggle to dismantle a system that advantages me, I am complicit." - Perfectly put. This is the most pertinent train of thought that every single person should adopt.

    • @iandouglas8485
      @iandouglas8485 4 года назад +11

      What "system" exactly are you looking to dismantle, and replace it with what? This empty virtue signaling does zero to accomplish anything.

    • @crowan3664
      @crowan3664 4 года назад +10

      Actually, it's a false premise. The system doesn't "advantage" people according to their skin colour. It's just virtue signaling. Distrust people who propose "to dismantle". It's very likely that's all they are capable of doing. It's pretty easy to dismantle and destroy. The real challenge is to fix and to create.

    • @LoveEsoteric
      @LoveEsoteric 4 года назад +3

      @@crowan3664 By your claim, are you implying that systemic racism is not a thing/does not exist? Also, for about 5 years, I worked in the field of construction, specifically exterior and interior demolition, which is not simply "easy" as you claim and, using your logic, would it mean that you would think I am only capable of dismantling and destroying? 😂

    • @LoveEsoteric
      @LoveEsoteric 4 года назад +1

      @Gerry C Why are you commenting on my post? You watched this video and, from the message of "dismantling the system" that is rooted in oppression, your takeaway was to rob a person of their direct possessions? If I'm not misunderstanding, you comment is the most asinine logic I've read in a while... since the person who commented just before you, actually! 😂

    • @crowan3664
      @crowan3664 4 года назад +4

      @@LoveEsoteric Haha, I can like my own comments, too, xD.
      Let’s see. “Sistemic racism” is on life support. It does exist in the form of affirmative action and similar asinine measures.
      You worked in construction, wow. Your mom must be proud. It’s a pity that you didn’t learn there how to think abstractly.
      I do think you are able to dismantle and destroy, I am, everyone is. Now, can you build up something new? Maybe, but I doubt it.

    It is also worth noting the antisemitic and Islamophobic context out of which racism developed. Portugal in the 1450s was in the process of expelling all Jews and Muslims who did not convert to Christianity, mostly to Africa as it happens. Opposition to these religions rapidly transformed into outright racism when those converts to Christianity and their descendants were persecuted because of their ancestry.

    Before arbitration or reconciliation, both sides need to agree on what happened. Only then can a remedy can be sought. When union workers have a beef with their company, their grievances need to be written down. Likewise, the other side must acknowledge and be held accountable for their complicity in the matter. Only then can a mediator step in and solve the problem. There has to be a binding agreement where differences are settled once and for all. Guilt and anger have nothing to do with resolving racism. People must deal with reality and change it for the better and move forward together. A house divided cannot stand; however, if the West cannot come to the table, then we all will perish...
