With that logic…”doku got the ball”, how come when Jones got the ball as well. But, his foot rolled over the ball with studs up and hit the spurs player. He was sent off. VAR in that game sent the referee over to watch it frame by frame. No consistency!!! VAR is a joke

Jota was sent off against Tottenham for “intent”…… just the fact that he went in low with studs showing, despite never making contact with udogie was enough for the refs to give him his marching orders 😅. How a low tackle showing studs that doesn’t make contact can be used to send someone off, yet a higher, more dangerous tackle that makes contact isn’t classed as a foul is disgraceful.

As a former ref, (Very low grade) I always consider the issue where a player connects with another in a dangerous fashion. Based on that photo, connection with the ball or not that was a tackle where both feet are off the ground, the player is not in control of his forward momentum and the result is connection with the victims body that could have resulted in broken ribs and has certainly resulted in bruised ribs. The injury could very well preclude the victim from the next game. By that definition it is dangerous play akin to a two footed tackle.

Thing is it would be a foul outside of the box, but many fouls outside the box aren’t in, and that needs a big clear up imo. That is what they were hesitant to call a pen here, they get a lot more leeway. Just like the standard lazy grappling in the box on corners for example. With the way the game is currently reffed inside the box I can’t definitely say it’s a pen - if they clear that unnecessary leeway up, then yes a pen, just.

One thing being definite is fouls outside the box are not always inside and needs a big clear up. I’m not talking about going down easily, but clear grappling isn’t called more than half the time - it promotes lazy defending by not marking well, lacking anticipation of movement and taking those examples of advantages some defenders have in good defending away for some cheap wrestling.

Good point. I don't even think it is true fans are 50/50 about the decision. I think most would agree this is a penalty. The fact the refs are so scared of giving a penalty is a nonsense as a defense, for why would they not be just as afraid of not giving a penalty if there is one? What it tells me is that they are afraid of going against the money at the expense of the fans, and this is why so many bad calls tend to go against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, while Manchester City seem to get all the breaks.
And for me this ruins football completely, especially when City already has enough advantages in having the most money and in being able to wait many years and not be punished for 115 charges when Everton and Forest is charged right away. The league is starting to me to look as as much of a disgrace as the doping scandals in Gymnastics and Tour De France. The love of money and lack of love of truth and fair play is ruining sports today.

Doku doesn't even get the ball
It hits off MacAllister's chest and then hits Doku
The fact Dermot and half of social media are still pedalling this just goes to show this sport is littered with braindead casuals who are too busy staring at their phone instead of actually watching the replays let alone games

I'm sick of the "re-refereeing" nonsense.. VAR should be there to correct mistakes regardless of what the ref thought he saw. "The ref tells VAR he saw Doku get to the ball so it's not a clear an obvious error" - yes it is mate, this doesn't make any sense. We've seen all season long that getting the ball doesn't negate the follow-through foul and we've known for decades that studs at chest-level followed by contact is always a foul. How is it not a clear and obvious error? The mental gymnastics they have to go through to minimise the work and usefulness of VAR is insane

Here is the difference for the fools saying we are just complaining. Liverpool has lost 7 points due to clear and obvious bad decisions from referees in a title race that might be defined by a point!! but here is an example: Jones goes for a 50/50 challenge, kicks the ball from the side and his foot bounces of it and hits the shin of the opponent; the referee gives a yellow; immediately after, VAR calls the referee to the monitor and shows a slow motion shot of the foot hitting the shin; they never show the other angle where you clearly see the foot hitting the ball and then bouncing of it....referee gives a red card. Here Doku goes ninja kick into a challenge, if you watch the replay you can see that Alexis actually touches the ball a fraction before Doku and the he gets kicked studs into the chest....VAR nothing!! how in the hell is this not injustice...and its not the first time, or second time or third time this season.....
