Thier right brain picked up the lyrics and brought the ideas forward to their left brains. Ænema is based on a comedy routine by Bill Hicks, who hated the city of Los Angeles. He thought the people were very superficial and represented America at its worst. In his routine, which is sampled in the song, Hicks talks about California falling into the ocean and creating Arizona Bay. Hence, learn to swim

Dive down that rabbit hole and you’ll appreciate the music even more. Also, Slipknot? Stop that nonsense! In closing, everyday I wish I’d never heard of Tool so I could experience them for the first time again the next day🤯
Seriously. I love tool But today there are many many new bands coming to light. Different genre’s though Like deathcore and metal. So many bands with amazing talent
Come on guys that video you played for "The Pot" was for "Stinkfist." The former doesn't have an official video. The guitarist organizes/manages/co-creates the videos...which are _amazing_ but it's best to check out the audio-only for the first time...anyway they only have a few vids out of many songs. Y'all were also talking your asses off and paying no attention to the best part and climax of "46 & 2."
Check out their "Pneuma" Vic Firth drum cam. But you gotta watch the midsection of the vid. He plays four different time signatures, each with an independent limb.
Tool is more than music. If you allow yourselves to close your eyes and open your minds you'll find they're a transcending experience. What am I saying? Less talking more listening and feeling. You have to allow the music to envelope your very being.
Depending on the "part" of the song its...9/4..8/4..3/4..4/4 ..They're favorite time signature is 6/4...they'll always bring u back in a 4/4 shortly in most songs to make u feel normal then bend u out again
Danny Carey my favorite drummer of all time, is the first person to make me think of the drums as something that could potentially be a lead instrument.
Adam is the main sculptor/designer for all the characters and creatures in the videos and directs all the videos as well. He worked in Stan Winston studios back in the day b4 TOOL and worked on some of the biggest fx movies of all time like T2, Jurassic Park, Nightmare on Elm Street etc. He left to start and pursue TOOL full time.
My guy in the gray jacket is freakin hilarious. LOLOL Guys kept saying they could hear the lyrics... It's hard to hear the lyrics when you're talking over them :0)
Bands are going away because of the work and effort required to make a band work. The amount of humility and compromise needed to function in a band is too much for a lot of people
I read where manyard sings behind the drums because he can hear his self better behind the drums. And Adam Jones does most the art work with Alex gray belive is his name also did alot of the sculpture on the first jurassic Park movie.
The voice in the middle of the mix is purposeful It's not a "flaw" But I get your point... you just have to consider that some musicians have very much figured out, even the minor details 🙃
It took the Pot to finally get white cap guy to put a sock in it and listen to the music lol Tool are a legendary band and deserve to be listened to; comments on the vocals needing to be raised, are fair for a first listen but, ignore the fact that Manyards' quieter vocals force the listener to hear the whole band, gain an appreciatan for the music beyond the vocals before focusing on MJK and his other worldly lyrics. To this day Tool give me shivers every time - absolute legends!
Tools are masters polyrythms, the more you listen the deeper it gets. Music is very complex, the transitions and flawless with lyrics to back it up. Watch Penuma drum cam live, Danny Carey, watch the octopus in action - ruclips.net/video/FssULNGSZIA/видео.html Also Adam the guitarist made the earlier film clips and is an animation artist, worked on some big films back in the late 80s and early 90s. Maynard doesn't like taking the limelight so stands to the side of the band, when you listen you can tell that the bass, guitar, vocals and drums are very balanced.
Danny Carey the drummer has a degree in music from university of Missouri KC i think with a focus on Jazz percussion and the Lead guitarist Adam Jones is an artist who also worked special effects on a bunch of movies in the early 90s like Jurassic Park and predator
I was born in 1992 and I grew up listening to all kinds of music but the one band that towers over the rest of them and has always remained my favorite is TOOL. It blows my mind that there's people out there who don't know who Maynard, Carry, and Adam are.....
That's so funny you mentioned watching the dark crystal on shrooms, I introduced so many people to the dark crystal when they were on shrooms hahaha. The dinner scene
I grew up with my dad listening to tool and I have a deep appreciation for Maynard's choice of progression and lyrics throughout his career. It is truly beautiful and is art at its best imo. The amount of interpretations that can be made from each song is outstanding and really leaves the audience thinking long after the music has ended
Tool is the most underrated band out there..since I heard sober first..'96.. in 2021.. still underrated... Great band all around..Adam Jones creates the videos.both on television and their back grounds on tour. actually? They did win 3 Grammy's I believe
I really like you guys. Danny Carey is the nucleus of the band and is musically trained. Good picks for beginning TOOL fans. Hope y'all dive deeper into their discography. I'm subbing for that.
Adam Jones has a musical background. I don’t know about Justin, but based on some of his bass grooves and harmonies, he probably does, too. Maynard is just a natural savant. I don’t think he went to school for music or had a background in it. I could be wrong. I haven’t read their wikis. Adam is classically trained on…violin? Another string instrument I believe.

MKJ adds vocals separately after the music is produced. There’s a reason the vocals blend… it’s by design. Dive down that rabbit hole and you’ll appreciate the music even more.
Also, Slipknot? Stop that nonsense!
In closing, everyday I wish I’d never heard of Tool so I could experience them for the first time again the next day🤯
Seriously. I love tool
But today there are many many new bands coming to light.
Different genre’s though
Like deathcore and metal. So many bands with amazing talent
"What's the time signature of this song?"
Answer: yes...
Tool is famous for playing odd time sigs. That's what they do
True, but the pot is mostly in 4/4 lol
lol
You skipped their best album in 2001, Lateralus
Tragically bogus!
@@O_U_No_It_2 indeed
Depending on the "part" of the song its...9/4..8/4..3/4..4/4 ..They're favorite time signature is 6/4...they'll always bring u back in a 4/4 shortly in most songs to make u feel normal then bend u out again
Danny Carey my favorite drummer of all time, is the first person to make me think of the drums as something that could potentially be a lead instrument.
Did they know that Adam, guitarist, was the vfx guy behind the videos?
I take it his job before the band? or during not sure.
TOOL is Pink Floyd for the new millennium.
Rich the Ancient Metal Beast
I kinda think tool is the zeppelin & Radiohead is the Floyd. But I get both.
I'm seeing them in January FINALLY!!!! After that I can die totally happy🖤
My guy in the gray jacket is freakin hilarious. LOLOL
Guys kept saying they could hear the lyrics... It's hard to hear the lyrics when you're talking over them :0)
They have on their tickets “no moshing”. They actually have seats on the floor to prevent it. Which makes for a better show.
That's awesome !
When you don’t get the video but you’re watching the wrong one 🤨
Ah man, Since they loved Danny I was hoping they would hear Pneuma.

Bands are going away because of the work and effort required to make a band work. The amount of humility and compromise needed to function in a band is too much for a lot of people
What a great point ! Humility is certainly lacking right now !
If they saw Pneuma live they’d lose their minds
And we did!

Those that dont know... Second song was bout California falling into the ocean... Third song is about the kangaroo courts...
I read where manyard sings behind the drums because he can hear his self better behind the drums. And Adam Jones does most the art work with Alex gray belive is his name also did alot of the sculpture on the first jurassic Park movie.
Tool are amazing and they typically surround themselves with just as amazing brilliant artists.
The voice in the middle of the mix is purposeful
It's not a "flaw"
But I get your point... you just have to consider that some musicians have very much figured out, even the minor details 🙃
Have to do another Tool episode and blow their minds with the mastery of Forty Six and Two
People keep saying Pneuma. But the 46 and 2 drum solo definitely grooves harder. And the song is better.
Love the video fellas and thank you for the effort ✊
Thanks for the support !
this was fun to watch, a deflowering of the un-initiated. 😂
Watch Penuma drum cam live, Danny Carey, watch the octopus in action - ruclips.net/video/FssULNGSZIA/видео.html
Also Adam the guitarist made the earlier film clips and is an animation artist, worked on some big films back in the late 80s and early 90s.
Maynard doesn't like taking the limelight so stands to the side of the band, when you listen you can tell that the bass, guitar, vocals and drums are very balanced.
Nice...and you have a great name! 😉

Danny Carey the drummer has a degree in music from university of Missouri KC i think with a focus on Jazz percussion and the Lead guitarist Adam Jones is an artist who also worked special effects on a bunch of movies in the early 90s like Jurassic Park and predator
Kills me that this guy was comparing Tool to Slipknot but happy to see they appreciate Danny Carey
You don’t listen to Tool You experienced them
Time signature is actually 4:4 but some notes are hit harder, sooner and longer and throws everyone’s ears off
These kids need to see Danny play Pneuma. See Daddy Danny beat a drum lol
I was born in 1992 and I grew up listening to all kinds of music but the one band that towers over the rest of them and has always remained my favorite is TOOL. It blows my mind that there's people out there who don't know who Maynard, Carry, and Adam are.....
8:39 "Wait, You said this was the happy period? LMAO
"I feel like the songs are awesome but the videos would wreck my life." He gets it.
these videos are really challenging to watch and enjoy because so much of what they're saying is so reductive and shallow.
Thank you!
What's the time signature?
Danny Carey: Yup
The drummer, Danny Carey, is a beast. He’s well over six foot tall and in his 60s!
Tool is the most underrated band out there..since I heard sober first..'96..
in 2021.. still underrated...
Great band all around..Adam Jones creates the videos.both on television and their back grounds on tour.
actually? They did win 3 Grammy's I believe
Did anyone else notice they used the video from Schism for AEnima?
It was said in the beginning the videos were not matched up it was simply to set the mood.... everyone seemed to miss that 🤷🏻♀️
I really like you guys. Danny Carey is the nucleus of the band and is musically trained. Good picks for beginning TOOL fans. Hope y'all dive deeper into their discography. I'm subbing for that.
He’s musically trained ? Aren’t they all ?
@@tempsitch5632 it just means he went to school for music. I'm not 100% but I think he studied music theory at university of California.
Thanks so much for the sub 🔥💪🏼🙏🏼
Adam Jones has a musical background. I don’t know about Justin, but based on some of his bass grooves and harmonies, he probably does, too. Maynard is just a natural savant. I don’t think he went to school for music or had a background in it. I could be wrong. I haven’t read their wikis. Adam is classically trained on…violin? Another string instrument I believe.
The video during the second song is the video for "Schism" which is off their third album, Lateralus... That's why they didn't go together
Why is Sober playing over the Prison Sex video? I started to wonder if I was getting dementia and got the videos confused lol.
lol
