    Those turned out great! I'd do the frame next so you have something to start putting all of the finished parts back on to.

    Jay Leno’s garage has some amazing polishing stuff for chrome and aluminum. You just put it on, let it sit, buff a SMALL bit and it chemically works. Give it a try. It’s VERY good n works quickly.

    I'm sure that fork oil is clapped, probably a good idea to at least change it, looking good though 👍

    One word.... CRC ! Use it on all the bolts before trying to turn them. Nice job. I'm looking forward to the rest !

    You should have rebuilt the forks too since they were off. Could have water in them, who knows. What a shame if the seals leak once you start riding the bike. Thanks for the videos.

    • @GoldGuyRides
      @GoldGuyRides  2 года назад

      Yeah I'm definitely going to replace the fluid once the bike is reassembled. If they leak I'll replace the seals. But until then: if it ain't broke don't fix it.

    Hey, so, I made an attachment (though you can find them pre-made.) out of a bolt, nut, and a horizontal polishing disc. I use it with my drill and it makes polishing surfaces like this crazy easy. The thing is if you're polishing a round or curved surface you are always only getting the very top so having something that you can keep parallel with the surface (like a horizontal polishing disc, versus a vertical one like on these palm polishers) makes life way easier. It seems to be faster too for small areas. I've used it for basically anything you can imagine. It has it's place and this is that sort of scenario where it really *shines* lololol

      You really might have had better luck overall with a bench polisher now that I'm thinking about it

    The fork sliders came out very nice. However, the tubes have been damaged by the use of abrasives. You should have used steel wool, instead. Followed by an application of chrome polish. You can expect the tubes to rust in short order as the chrome layer on the tubes is quite thin. Once they begin to rust, they will destroy the seals in short order. Good luck!

    • @kubakubiczek
      @kubakubiczek Год назад

      How do you actually make sure the tubes do not rerust in the future? Do you chrome them back or maybe some ACF50 is enough? I just cannot imagine there is no way to make sure my newly restored parts need to be sprayed once a year to stay clean. You can zinc electroplate smaller parts like nuts and bolts but chrome tubes are out of the way.

    nice work. I would have pulled the forks apart personally. Also I would not have painted the top triple tree. just polished it up a bit and left it bare aluminium. looks great though

    I just got through restoring a Honda CR 250 R Elsinore red rocket. Take it from me if it’s not leaking once you start riding it it will start leaking. If it’s rubber or a seal,well you have the bike apart take the time and the money to replace it. It will pay off in the end.

  • @Mean-bj8wp
    @Mean-bj8wp Год назад

    Personally I would have stripped the forks as the oil will be old. Invest in a beach grinder/polisher that would make the cleaning and polishing easier and far better result.

  • @peytonrudolph4958
    @peytonrudolph4958 2 года назад +2

    I would recommend that you don’t use the aluminum foil because it may put very fine vertical line in the Crome. If there is rust steel wool is really good. Make sure it the fine stuff though. Good work though.

    • @HalfdeadRider

      Some 2k-3k grit sand paper will polish them out and leave a mirror finish, then a finishing polish to be sure it's at it's best. Also products such as ACF-50 are great at removing surface rust with little effort.

    Does your spaypaints resist regular degreaser that are used when washing the bike in the future? Can you do a test? So the paint doesnt wash off in the first cleaning of the bike. I think it would be good to use 2k paint or atlest 2k clearcoat it to prevent it from happening

  • @Kmartz1968

    Don't be surprised if the forks start leaking after you do some regular riding (speaking from experience). I completely understand your mindset though.

  • @Frisky_FZR

    It doesn’t matter the order you paint things in. I’ve found it’s easier to get everything done then put it back together at once. Also remember keep all your painted polished parts well away from your work shop. It’s very easy to scratch and get overspray on your nicely painted parts which sucks. When putting in the motor use masking tape on the Frame so you don’t scratch it

    do not sand or grind the part that goes up and down they are special hard chrome.the top part should except some sanding to remove rust. just did my Suzuki tc-100. there is a guy on ebay the will make a OEM key as long as you have the number on the lock face. he charges $10.99.
