Garden Spider Wraps Grasshopper Prey Extremely Fast

  • Опубликовано: 12 дек 2019
  • A black and yellow garden spider wraps up a small grasshopper caught in her web.
    Sensing the movement, she races down to the trapped insect and uses her silk, nature’s saran wrap, to package the morsel for later eating just like mom used to do when preparing your lunch. Watch her give it a venomous bite before heading back up to await another visitor. The silk is made of protein - it is stronger by weight than any man-made material. Yet, the spider can recycle it simply by eating and re-spinning it.
    Filmed at the Butterfly Pavilion in Colorado. The Butterfly Pavilion exists to foster an appreciation of invertebrates by educating the public about the need to protect and care for threatened habitats globally while conducting research for solutions in invertebrate conservation.

    Once I saw a spider in a bathroom window in my house. I ran to get bug spray, and was about to kill it...
    But then I saw it wrapping up a fly. I never thought I'd see that in my life, and honestly, no one likes to be interrupted when making dinner. So, I just watched in fascination as it continued to prepare it's meal. When it finished, I simply walked out the bathroom and put the spray away. You get to live another day to eat, interesting little spider. Appreciate it.

      Good choice! Let spiders be if you can, especially if they're common house spiders. Their presence will help keep other spiders and bugs which are actually dangerous/annoying out.

    I believe spiders are one of the most interesting, and almost evolutionarily perfect creature. They wait for prey to fall into its trap and get stuck, then, it wraps it in more silk to ensure it can’t escape, while keeping it’s distance with its long legs to ensure the prey can’t attack back, and to boot, it injects venom into the prey, and sticks it on it’s web like putting a to-go box in the freezer

      I love spiders. A little advice, if you see a spider in your house, don’t kill it and don’t put it outside (indoor spiders will die outdoors) put it in a more secluded area, or in your garage, shed, or anywhere where it will be shielded from the elements. Wherever they are, you will have much less pests

    • @flargarbason1740
      @flargarbason1740 3 года назад +6

      Adam Stead first off, hawks don’t eat a lot of insects. They usually prefer larger prey. Hedgehogs do eat insects, however spiders are much more plentiful and eat far more insects total than hedgehogs. You don’t have insects in your house because predators, like spiders (one of the biggest contributors to pest control) eat them and keep their populations down. If you think that you’re killing every spider in or near your house, you are an absolute moron. There are so many spiders in your house and everywhere around it that it’s basically a giant mine field for pests.
