    Had a ride on this Super Dartmaster today on the 65-👏👏👏 for a very sympathetic conversion. Only if you knew of the rebuild would you have heard any hint of a Dart from inside!

    Rode this bus on the 31 last October, was a real treat. Very quiet.

    hi i worked for AEC ltd and we used to fit a cummins NHC250 engine in to the Marathon as a choice from 1977-1979, the other option was a Rolls-Royce 220 eagle or our own AEC tl12 engine, happy days !

    Nothing really beats the throaty, visceral throb of an AV590 or 0600 but the Cummins makes for a decent replacement especially compared to the Scania and horrid Iveco’s fitted in the 1990’s and if it keeps these remarkable old buses going then it gets my vote.

    Beautiful london iconic machines! Hope They will never be Obsolete. Who says these beautiful traditional machines can't co-exist with the newrer buses.

    Nah wack in an old AEC or Leyland engine for me restoration is about originality for me not forgetting the singing gearbox

    I have an idea. How about a diesel-electric hybrid engine. If I'm not mistaken, most diesel trains are powered by diesel-electric hybrid engines. Why not offer a smaller version for transit buses and long haul trucks.

    • @jammymark
      @jammymark 6 лет назад +2

      Jason Carpp the newer shape routemaster bus that you also see in the footage is a diesel electric hybrid drive designed by Cummins and Siemens.

    • @jasoncarpp7742
      @jasoncarpp7742 6 лет назад +1

      Why not? They should be used for our American buses, school buses, transit buses, diesel pusher motorhomes, anything that's diesel powered.

    • @jammymark
      @jammymark 6 лет назад +1

      Turbo617 but as we have learnt from trains, a series hybrid is inefficient because when you don't need power i.e. coasting or sat at idle the only option is to dump the power through roof resistors and turn that energy into heat which is a waste. There's no viable way of doing this in cars but then why would you when you can store that power in a battery and use it.

    • @FM60260
      @FM60260 6 лет назад

      Optare Solo SR Hybrid, Optare Versa SR Hybrid and ADL Enviro 400H are all Series Hybrids.

    • @FM60260
      @FM60260 6 лет назад

      The Optares are series Hybrids, the ADL E400H has BAE series hybrid equipment. Volvo B5LH's are parallel hybrids. I don't know of any electric buses outside of London other than the 3 former Manchester Metroshuttle Versa EV's which were sent back to Optare after the Volvo 7900EV trial ended badly.

    For me, a routemaster without the roar of the AEC engine is like cutting the balls off a lion....... the roar isn’t there. I appreciate current legislation determines how certain aspects of the bus will look, but the internal digital display, the fluorescent lighting and yellow poles are about as authentic as diamanté. I am not a window licker, but I would rather these buses are not butchered the way this one is.

  • @davidwebster537

    Yes but can you still have the semi Automatic function on the bus and also do you have to change the interior of the Drivers Cab.

    If only such engines were available for North American consumers. Whether you're a business owner, you drive your car or truck for a business, clean air emissions is imperative if you care about the environment. :)

    I remember when they fitted these engines to the RML’s at Upton Park.
    They were shite, we hated them and always hoped for an AEC.

    • @RWL2012
      @RWL2012 4 года назад

      they wouldn't have been fitted with Euro 6 4 cylinder Cummins engines, but rather Euro 2/3 6 cylinder ones, which coincidentally this particular bus used to have one of.

    • @paulmason329
      @paulmason329 2 года назад

    The whole clean air thing is such a joke

    • @jammymark
      @jammymark 6 лет назад +1

      Jonathan Horneys the co2 emissions reduction is perhaps not as imperative as maybe other sources in the cities but the nox and harmful soot emissions is a very real problem for human health and we must do more to reduce it.

    • @jammymark

      Super Jesus Not in cities like London. The smog levels are a very real risk to health caused mainly by diesel soot emissions.

      Smog is caused by hydrocarbon emissions, not particulates.

      it can be seen at speed in the All The Stations Imberbus video. Even though it's the engine and transmission normally used in the Enviro200 MMC it actually properly powers this bus, better than the original huge engine ever could. Modern efficiency!

      Jason Carpp The 10 Routemasters that remain in timetabled London service on route 15H currently have older Euro 2/3 Cummins 6BT / ISB5.9 engines in them, which RM1005 did as well before its Euro 6 ISB4.5 swap was carried out.

    If this is possible why dont they start making buses to look exactly like the original routemasters only electric? I'm sure people would appreciate them more than the busses going around London now would probably even attract more people to use public transport

      Dude do you know anything about routemasters? There's a good chance that all of its body panels, windows, seats and drive train all came from a different vehicle. Many were also fitted with 2nd hand titan brake chambers from when the titans were converted to air brakes.
