Thank you for explaining to the rest of the world on the proper pronunciation of Louisville. Now to show my husband because that NC boy always gets it wrong.
yall did good, many places in KY are named after french names. the story with Versailles is that it use to be pronounced "ver-sai" but we got mad at the french sometime in the early 19th century so we started saying "ver-sales " as a form of protest...
LoL this is one I can totally believe. I can't wait to tell my NY friend who recently moved there. She's a little passive aggressive. She fits in right well.
I’m not even southern, and I knew it. And that might have been the whole reason I clicked in the video. I really wanted to see if any of them could get it. :)
Reminds me of that old joke, "How do you pronounce the name of the capital of Kentucky?" People start guessing "Louieville", "Louisssville", etc. and the answer is, "Frankfort". My mom was born in Greasy Creek, KY, pronounced "Greezy Creek". It's near Pikeville, pronounced "Pikevul".
I used to live in a little town halfway between Possum Trot & Monkey's Eyebrow. And being originally from Memphis before moving to Paducah for 9 years,I am fond of quoting the late Jack Eaton's "My 2 favorite teams are Memphis State & whoever's playing Louisville."
I'm a lifelong Louisvillian, but as an administrative assistant I'm required to pronounce it as Loo-ee-ville. That's just too many syllables and too much work in this hot, humid weather.
I moved to Ohio from Kentucky. The teachers and my friends always said the Appalachian Mtns. And Louisville wrong. And then they tried to convince me, the person from Kentucky mind you, that I was wrong.
I can't believe that you had Inez on here. We own a farm there that has been in the family since before the civil war. A lot of my family still lives there. We don't live there but we have a cabin on the farm. I've been to most of the towns in the video. I live in Lexington and that is next to Versailles so I have been there so many times.
Y'all did pretty good, but you left out Gamaliel - the locals all call it Ga-mel-yuh and Chalybeate pronounce kol-ee-bee-ut. Me, I'm from Bowling Green, home of Duncan Hines and John Carpenter. We make Corvettes.
Ky resident here! Thanks for finally taking on the Bluegrass state! You missed a few good ones! Glasgow (glass-go), Uno (you-know) are my picks, but thanks for finally telling folks how to pronounce Louisville correctly!
I wasn't born and raised in Kentucky but evidently I got back home as fast as I could ... 3 to 4 generations later. Yes it is a trick question re Louisville vs Versailles.
*It's a Southern Thing Uploads* Me: Yes, I can't wait for another video! *Sees it's another pronunciation video* *Gulps... I can do this!* Also Me: Hehe, it's obviously "Ver-Sails", "Broke Point", and "Crit-ten-den". My Realization: What state is my wallet in? Answer: It's at its Broeck Pointe!
The ver sails one is a trick though because along with Bagdad, Warsaw, and Paris, KY loves to take other city’s names and then get up set when you call it ver sai
Okay so I’m from Fredonia and the way we say it is so much more southern. We are not far away from crittenden nor are we from Cadiz. I have to say the way we say it is so much different than non Kentucky people. Great video
Kentucky girl here! I was waiting for this video and I was hoping y'all would put Versailles (my hometown). Thank you! (BTW to the folks that got it wrong, don't feel bad, people NEVER get it right. It's a doozy!)
Ale 8-One is THE BEST. (That should be another Kentucky pronunciation test -- seeing who knows how to pronounce it as 'A Late One'.) Every time I drive back to Texas, I carry a coolerful back with me and wish SOMEONE down here would carry it.
I never got to live in Kentucky much because my relatives moved when I was 4 but I was born there and my home town is Crittenden. I'd really love to travel there one day and enjoy my time there, getting to know my homestate better and reconnecting. 💖
FINALLY! Y'all did well. I'm surprised they didn't put Daviess county in there. Also, I thought everyone knew how to pronounce Louisville by now. Everyone's always making such a big fuss about how we pronounce it. X-D I felt like a lot of them were obvious, like Inez, Hyden, Crittenden, and Fredonia, but I guess that's cause I'm used to them. Or maybe they couldn't find enough difficult names in Kentucky. We do tend to be a simple folk. Why make a meal out of a name when you could be making a meal out of fried chicken? :-D
I'm glad y'all did Cadiz. Its just right up the road from me. Nothing gets my goat more than someone saying we don't pronounce Louisville correctly. It's our city, if we pronounce it lou-uh-vull then it's lou-uh-vull lol. Only one the list was missing was Kuttawa.
Yee yee!!! Kentucky gal here! Y'all tried & we thank you for that. Ya did good.
Yee Yee! Kentucky girl too!!!!
Kentucky born and raised right here also!
Me to y’all
Your not alone
kentuckian here
Thank you for explaining to the rest of the world on the proper pronunciation of Louisville. Now to show my husband because that NC boy always gets it wrong.
BreeKayBe yes!!
Yes I was thinking the same thing
I’ll always call it Looser-ville because we all know UK is the winners here!!
That Theater Nerd why do you have to troll and be mean
Erin Stephens sorry, I wasn’t trying to be rude
I live in the Kentuckiana area. I lived in Louisville for one year. You have to say it like your throwing up.
lol it does sound like throwing up. I live in northern KY
U ain't wrong
Yep. From New Albany Indiana and we say Looavul.
@@gotzBearhugz I live in southern Kentucky

Yes. Etoile which means star in French is pronounced E toll. Like an electronic toll road. Lol
Haven’t we all gotten mad at the French at some point?
I am a Kentucky girl and live in Louisville and he was exactly right we do get pissed if say Louisville wrong thank y’all for saying it right 😁
Hailey Morris YES I live in Louisville KY
Looooooouuuuuuville
Exactly
I’ve lived in Louisville my entire life and I got so mad when they said it wrong
It's Lull-vull
I’m so happy y’all finally did Kentucky!!
I'm with Matt; I thought Louisville was one of those pronunciations that all Southerners knew. I'm really surprised that some of them missed it.
I’m not even southern, and I knew it. And that might have been the whole reason I clicked in the video. I really wanted to see if any of them could get it. :)
As an Australian that did French history, I would have said it like the French King, rather than how it's pronounced there.
So glad they know how to properly pronounce Louisville. I'm from KY and people from other states tell me I say it wrong all the time.
I used to live on Pikeville, TN for a while too.
I remember that joke!
My Mullins in laws in Greasy Creek.
Kentucky Girl Right Here! I Think Y'all Done a Mighty Fine Job!!
THANK YOU! i walked into this video wondering if they were gonna have to pronounce Louisville the correct way!!
I thought they were actin like chickens with their head cut off when they were pronouncing that
Same
I used to live in a little town halfway between Possum Trot & Monkey's Eyebrow.
And being originally from Memphis before moving to Paducah for 9 years,I am fond of quoting the late Jack Eaton's "My 2 favorite teams are Memphis State & whoever's playing Louisville."
I have a lot of relatives in Kentucky, great state. I love horseracing and KFC. Finger lickin' good
Avery The Cuban-American I’m Cuban and I live in Louisville, KY; there’s a lot of Cubans here haha
Clearly your not from Kentucky, everyone here goes for Lee's
Ugh, I'm a Kentucky native but I don't really like KFC. But I don't really like fried chicken that much.
@@meganh6836 Or Indi's.
Avery The Cuban-American even though we’re home to fried chicken some of our kfc restaurants are still ass for example the one in paintsville kentucky
I’ve been waiting for this one. And yes, we get mad if you consistently mispronounce Louisville. But only in a silent, passive-aggressive way.
I'm a lifelong Louisvillian, but as an administrative assistant I'm required to pronounce it as Loo-ee-ville. That's just too many syllables and too much work in this hot, humid weather.
It's actually supposed to be pronounced loey-ville because it was named after King Louis (loey) of France
@@hip9298 Yes, but we're proud to sound ignorant. ( ;-) Lifelong Louisvillian here.)
Yes, don't say looeyville. We will give you a look. We say Looavul.
+Steven Hibbs LOL I'm a Kentuckian and I call it Louieville sometimes, heck I refer to the U Of L as Loserville hehehe. L Down GO CATS LOL.
Yep, learned that we drop those vowels here in Kentucky. LOL
@Ojibwa62 x no. We have a road spelled Blackiston but pronounce it Blacks-ton, without the I.
We do and I was told it was my first word that I spoke when I learned how to speak
We don't love basketball too much, thank you Matt. Ya'll missed a golden opportunity for Barbourville
Charles I was thinking Barbourville, too!
Sarah Fischbach how is it pronounced
Good ole Bar-vul. ;-)
I was looking for this on here before I wrote it , everyone in my family that isn't from around here says it barbers- ville smh lol

I moved to Ohio from Kentucky. The teachers and my friends always said the Appalachian Mtns. And Louisville wrong. And then they tried to convince me, the person from Kentucky mind you, that I was wrong.
