Interesting. Here in the UK, when people are visiting you and want the bathroom (toilet), they will say, "May I use the toilet?" They do not assume that you will automatically give permission for that. My thought as a US expat is "No, you may not use the toilet. Just pee on the carpet." In the US, people say, "Where is your bathroom.", assuming that by letting you into their house a person has also implicitly given permission to use their bathroom and the only additional information needed is the bathroom's location. Chris Hansen I'm from the uk too but I've found that when being over at someone's house it's fine to just ask where the bathroom is.
also British people are probably the most polite people ever. My Stepdad of 10 years! still asks if i mind when he takes his shoes off while we're watching tv or something
Huh, my experience is just the opposite! British/europeans always strike me as very rude (if I want to label it negatively) or direct (if I say it politely) especially in comparison to americans/canadians/mexicans etc. For example, Germans/italians/austrians will say "I want blablabblab wine and some sparkling water (please)" whereas americans will say "may I please get some blahblah wine and sparkling water?" "Thank you!".
Especially british people I feel like are known to be rather vulgar, loud, rowdy and just more in your face than other cultures. Of course those are all just generalizations but I find it funny how much experiences vary!
I'm from Belgium, and it's basically the same. You ask if you can use the toilet. It's just formal. And the person will say yes and indicate where is the bathroom 99% of cases (1% is for when it's out of use). It's not about saying yes or not, it's just about not assuming that you are "at home". And to be perfectly polite, one should even not ask where the toilet or the bathroom is, but where they can wash their hands (but nearly nobody respects that one today). I like that kind of stuffs, the convention is clear, it's very easy. I find things like what to do or not when being in an elevator (for example) way more difficult.
in canada it's a good mixture of both (understandably as we're literally a cross breed of US and England)
Asking permission to use the bathroom is a way of asking where is the bathroom that you want me to use.
When I was in middle school I became fascinated with the social norm of having to wear shoes at all times in the school. It was a "safety" thing, but nobody makes a fuss when you take your shoes off in the home, ya know? So I started leaving mine behind at my desk at the beginning of class. Most of the staff thought it was funny, but my English teacher HATED it. I had strong disagreements with her teaching methods, so I just kind of enjoyed spiting her. Now, even as a senior in high school, my classmates still accept my shoelessness as it's own sort of norm, just something I do.

Note on permission to use bathrooms: I'm studying urban planning and sociology and both these disciplines help me provide a comment on that :P The way our houses are built reflect how our society dictates behaviour in the household. Private bathrooms are places where you're meant to be alone, most of the time anyways. For this reason, when you're in someone's house, someone's private space, asking for permission to use their bathroom, probably their most private space, is common courtesy as we value privacy and individualism highly in our society. Our behaviour is socially constructed and we value social demands over biological needs. Furthermore, the cultural notion of the bathroom being a private space and individualistic behaviour are reasons as to why there's so much fuss over who can use which public bathrooms. Personally, I think assigning genders to space is unhealthy and unnecessary. Anyway, I could go on about specific layouts of the bathroom within space but this comment is long enough already and I started to digress towards the end. Also, Skylar, I love you, but I'm not ready to see your poop just yet. Maybe one day though :P

With the fork/eating thing, I never had an issue with biting the fork when I was growing up but I had a friend who absolutely HATED hearing people bite the fork, while his sister was the opposite and used it to piss him off when they were kids, because one was raised mainly by their mom and the other by their dad, and they taught them to eat differently. I feel like chewing with your mouth closed is just kind of polite, like no one wants to see that lmao
A different behavior in Brazil is that when you are at someone's house you should not open the door yourself. You should wait the host open it to you to let you go out.
Some little jerk pressed all the buttons on the elevator when he and his family got off and I was entering, I couldn't contain myself and without thinking said, "BRUH." :'^) Why is this my life? Why was that my response? Ugh
I hate the sounds of people eating soooo muchhhhhh but, I'm probably guilty of it when I'm not thinking about who might be around when i'm eating and really hungry 😂

I record my farts on my phone and then send them to my best friend. Before texting, I left him voicemails when I felt a fart charging up! We've been doing this for 20 years! I've sent him a few poop pics too. I gave a tendency to poop like a lumberjack and I have to share the pic with someone!
Maybe if we all start sharing pictures of our poop, we would start keeping track of our health.

The (really for real, actually exists and I love it) site www.gotopless.org features a map of the US color-coded to indicate the legality of female toplessness. The issue generally doesn't seem to be the act of going topless itself, but other disturbances judged to be a result of the exposure- public lewdness, inciting a riot, indecency charges of some sort (especially if a child is present- people have been charged with exposing themselves to a child and now are registered sex offenders after accidentally urinating in front of a child when they needed to go while in an outdoor, public situation).
So yeah, women can go topless in most states, but the real question is "Is it worth it?".
