I’m not a fan of Jimmy’s interview style normally, but I gotta say, props to him for giving Macaulay the respect he deserves, and mentioning how we all love him. Ellen’s interview was definitely very dry, and impersonal and I know her interview style is more understated, it definitely didn’t have the respectful tone that this one does. Jimmy actually cares and it shows.

I honestly always felt that scene where he runs off with the toothbrush was in there for that very reason - to give Kevin a legitimate (if from the POV of a child) reason to be afraid of the police. He later does call the cops but pretends to be his neighbour on the phone and calls them to the neighbour's house not his.
I’m 29 and I always watch Home Alone, Home Alone 2, and even Home Alone 3 Every Christmas. I feel bad for Macaulay when he was a kid though. Home Alone 2 however, he has absolutely no excuse to not call 911 right away except for wanting to torture Harry and Marv EDIT- I'm now realizing they kind of TRIED to give him an excuse in HA2:LINY by having the concierge threaten him with the police for "stolen credit card" but it's a much flimsier set up compared to the first one. He was "defending" Duncan's Toy Chest, not his own house and ended up calling 911 from a pay phone in the park, plus he signed the note he threw through the window with his own name.

He thought he was getting in trouble for his dad’s credit card but then again that was probably after he seen or the bad guys but yeah, that even in the first one I was cut a I didn’t think about as a child, but I thought about that too, when I watch the homeland the other day and call the cops but I didn’t think about the toothbrush thing
Kevin didn’t call the cops because the phone lines were down and by the time they were up again (how would he know?) Sure you could say how would he know if the phone lines were even down at all, but he was an eight-year-old who was free of his family who he hated and by the time he began missing his family, he was busy protecting his home from two burglars who he did actually call the cops on.
In Home Alone 1, they made a point to mention as the family was leaving that the power was fixed but the phone lines were messed up. They woke up late because the power reset the alarms. In Home Alone 2, he calls the cops and tricks everyone into meeting in Central Park.
The landlines were down. This is addressed in the very beginning of the movie. The day he called the cops was the day the phone repair man said the lines would be back up.

3:07 - Kevin probably doesn't just call the cops because he thinks they'll arrest him for stealing the toothbrush. I honestly always felt that scene where he runs off with the toothbrush was in there for that very reason - to give Kevin a legitimate (if from the POV of a child) reason to be afraid of the police. He later does call the cops but pretends to be his neighbour on the phone and calls them to the neighbour's house not his.

Home Alone 2 however, he has absolutely no excuse to not call 911 right away except for wanting to torture Harry and Marv
EDIT- I'm now realizing they kind of TRIED to give him an excuse in HA2:LINY by having the concierge threaten him with the police for "stolen credit card" but it's a much flimsier set up compared to the first one. He was "defending" Duncan's Toy Chest, not his own house and ended up calling 911 from a pay phone in the park, plus he signed the note he threw through the window with his own name.

He thought he was getting in trouble for his dad’s credit card but then again that was probably after he seen or the bad guys but yeah, that even in the first one I was cut a I didn’t think about as a child, but I thought about that too, when I watch the homeland the other day and call the cops but I didn’t think about the toothbrush thing
Kevin didn’t call the cops because the phone lines were down and by the time they were up again (how would he know?) Sure you could say how would he know if the phone lines were even down at all, but he was an eight-year-old who was free of his family who he hated and by the time he began missing his family, he was busy protecting his home from two burglars who he did actually call the cops on.
Also, Kevin first met Harry when he was dressed up as a cop and as a little kid, probably didn't know how to trust police.
