Mate you are a legend!! I have my M unit ready to go and had absolutely no idea where to start or what to do with the ignition system. Very easy to understand and super helpful. Thank you 👏
Hey, stumbled upon your channel by searching for motogadged mo-unit installation. We'll you got yourself another fan, you make stuff look easy. Amazing!!
Thanks for creating these m unit vids. I’m getting rid of my birds nest and swapping it out for an m unit. These guides are perfect in helping me. I got my bike fired up yesterday with the m unit. Thanks. 👍
This is the best video i saw. You explain everything wiring etc. Very obviously. Thank you so much. Your video will be very helpfull for me when i work on my r80 project wiring 🎉🎉
As my co-commentators pointed out: - aaaawesome video series - this de-mystified basically EVERYthing for me. Thank you so much. - little trivia on m.unit blue: in my version (German version, 2018) the output for the ignition is pin number four. The AUX2 occupies the first TWO pins on my unit.
Just stumbled across this video. Excellent. It's inspired me to dig out the dead '85 R80 that's lying in one of the outbuildings and maybe graft this M-Unit device onto it...
Hi there, (I didn’t find the way to write my comment!) Anyway I have to thank you for your work, I’m really a big fan ! & you work encourages me to have my first BMW R80 87th, I know I’ll have a lot of stuff to do on it ^^’ My question is do you still have the links for the stuff you bought, or do you have tips that you can share with us to find parts. Thank you so much & keep going it’s so mint 👌🏻
Great project and thanks so much for all the videos. Just starting a R100RT rebuild with my son. Would you be able to provide any of your wiring diagrams for reference?
@@TheLongWayThereUK Thanks again for the videos and example wiring diagram. Into the thick of it now and going well. Did you use powerpoint for your diagram? I've tried a few apps but essentially have drawn most of it out and would like to clean it up. Happen to have a suggestion on a tool and if so a template or sample to build from? @mytwowheeltherapy.
I got some questions. I'm using a brand new charging system with diode board, voltage regulator and alternator wire harness( Black and Blue wire) instead that regulator / rectifier in my 86, R80. If I want to make my starter works do I have to plug a wire in the black one ?because the blue wire is the charge indicator light that is what I understood. Second, my coils are dual tower too but my coils are not- polarized because I'm using another model and I got the same 3 plug pins ignition wire harness(Brown, Green, Black) below the module ignition. Can I have spark if I make the same connections? I don't know anything about wiring and my stock chasis wire harness is beyond to be repaired and I have been looking for information about how to make my engine start .I'm not using a motogadget Unit. Could you please share or help me with some information about it?
Great series of videos. I second the question on the main fuse - there's a lot of conflicting advice out there - not least from the motogadget manual. Would be good to see how you run it ... thanks
Hi, fantastic video and it's been a great help so far. I'm currently wiring up my '83 r100 and when I reached the ignition coil wiring I noticed mine was a different set up to yours and I have no spark. Could I potentially send you a pm on a different platform to explain the issue? Nothing better to do during self isolation 🙄😂
I've changed to a single coil (dual igniton) from Silent Hektik Germany. On there I've got a "+" and a "-". Is your far end post the "+" and the nearer post the "-" ? So that means I connect the the double cable (1 green connector, 1 ignition pint of m.unit) with the "+" post? Many thanks!
Are you going to add a fuse inline between the battery and the M.Unit? I see the M.Unit doesn't need one but they suggest one to protect the system. Thanks for the excellent videos!
Hi Paul. Yes I’ll be including a 40 amp fuse in the circuit. The setup in this video was just to get the engine turning over (to make sure it worked) and oil primed after I’d rebuilt it.
@@TheLongWayThereUK Sorry, I should have included my follow up question. Have you found a clever way of doing it? I have a similar project but have not found a clean way of putting a fuse inline. Since you're well ahead of me I thought you might already have that sorted? I have not found many options for doing it cleanly. Thanks again.
Great job. Love your videos. Can you tell me something about the charge control (i hope i translated it correctly). I read that once you are using another instruments, your battery wont charge anymore because of the missing signal lamp that is needed. Does the m unit solve this problem? Hope you know what i mean. Best regards from Germany.
Hi there. Thanks for your kind words. I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey. I haven’t done the charge circuit yet. I’ll be wiring in a modern reg/rec and yes I believe the charge lamp (or a suitable resistor) needs to be in the circuit. I’ll post a video when I do it. I’d not heard about instrument changes affecting it though. Anyone else out there have any info on this?
They are bronze. I took the idea from a friend who has similar on a limited edition Ducati scrambler - they looked ace. I went with the only bronze the powder coater had in stock then got the tank sprayer guy to match to that.

great video, thanks for posting -- amazing how these m-units provide for a massively simplified alternative to the spaghetti of the Haynes manual!
great video!!!thank you!i was afraid to buy a m-unit without knowing how to wire it.but now,i will!!
Thanks Al. Good luck

Excellent- wish I'd found this 2 months ago!
Welcome Miles.
Super vidéo, j’ai justement un R80ST à retaper ce printemps !
Bonne chance pour votre projet. 👍
This is the best video ever to understand how to install the motogadget unit! One questions: Where is the batterie rectifier?
Keep watching. You will see. 👍
I love you're video ... I did ask my son to help me ... but I can do it on my own now... thanks mate 👍 keep up the good work
Great video.....thank you so much for posting, really appreciate the effort!
Glad it was helpful!
Such great explanations! Greatly appreciated!
Thanks. 👍

Great Video, that helped me out!!

Perfect Video Man!!! That helps me a lot!!! 🍻👍
Thanks for a perfect explanation!!💎
My pleasure.
I have recently purchased the Axel Joost unit. Hoping the installation will be very similar to the m-unit.
Thanks a lot. It helped. I was looking for this information for a looooong time.
firstly thank you for sharing, are the ign-coils original......if not where did you get them please and thank you.....
They are original.

thumbs up! nice video !

How you have wire the rectifier plz ?

this was going to be the scariest part for me but now i know an m unit is the way to go
Go for it Jimmy.
Hey so there's no starter relay? Is there a reason why?
It’s not needed. The M-unit does the job itself. I tried a version with a relay. - that worked fine. I just wanted a less complicated setup.
Don’t need a starter relay?
Never mind, saw that question already answered
We have the same key chain! lol good old MotoWorks

Here is some info you might find useful. bmwmotorcycletech.info/genlampresistor.htm
thanks for the video!
Thanks for them formation!!!
Thanks for video. What year or this R80?
I have one for 79th year but think it's too old for rebuilding.
It’s an 85.
What colour are the wheels?
They are bronze. I took the idea from a friend who has similar on a limited edition Ducati scrambler - they looked ace. I went with the only bronze the powder coater had in stock then got the tank sprayer guy to match to that.
I need some help wiring my airhead. Can you?
Hi, is this to replaced the all the junks under the gas tank?
Yes. Motogadget m-unit. Worth a google.
Thanks 👍🏼👍🏼....waiting for new video!
Good stuff :D
EXCELLENT
It’s not necessary to use a starter relay to the starter ?
