@@TheSundaeDrive BestBuy installed this reviewed radio in my wife's car yesterday and the audio sucks major ass compared to the boss radio I had in there. You guys do these review videos and leave out most important review of a car stereo....sound quality. All that touch screen bullsh...t you talk about in your review is totally unusable especially on a 300-400 miles road trip. Sound quality is the main component of a car stereo for long trips. Sending that POS ATOTO back to Amazon and going with real car stereo like Pioneer or Kenwood next month. Thanks for nothing.
Sound quality is something incredibly hard to review and quantify when reviewing these because every vehicle is so different and every user has their own preferences of what they like. Ideally we would have some sort of sound studio we could hook this up to a 'typical' (but then again, what is typical) vehicle system and bring in multiple people to rank the system sound and attempt to create some sort of usuable matrix of quality. Honestly, this is the best review I have seen for any kind of head unit. You answered every question I had, without me even asking them and even convinced me on getting one for myself!
Great video guys! Ive bookmarked it for reference. Lots of features on this unit. At my age, 69, it's easy to forget all the features and paths to get there. Hey Peter. Very informative. There is another youtuber (jpulley) that showed how to get steering wheel controls without a kit, its pretty simple. I have an F 150, new Atoto A6PF. I found the wire he showed, then figured out which pin it was. Then I looked at my scosche wiring harness, and that pin was unused, but wired. So I used that, and did not have to tap into the wire. Worked great.

I just bought the premium version of this device and all I'm waiting on is the install kit I bought for my truck. I'm very excited to use this headunit and I'm happy that a review video was made about it. I'm happy that the Google Play store is on it so I can install RUclips music natively to the device rather than having to use my phone.
Thanks for the review. It was a great explanation of setup, quirks and daily use. It gave a great synopsis of what it's like to own this ATOTO Android head unit. I'm now leaning toward an upper end ATOTO for my 4Runner and a lower end ATOTO for my 1996 Daihatsu Hijet. In both cases, I plan on stripping out a bunch of the complexity by uninstalling apps I don't use, and then keeping it entirely off the internet after that. I don't like being tracked or monetized. I plan on a temporary internet connection to install a few apps that I use, notably OSMand+ for offline GPS navigation, then keeping it off the internet after the initial installation. I wish ATOTO did more than the least they could do to nominally check the DVR box. I'd like the forward and rear cameras to be recording any time the ignition is on, and I'd like the date, time and GPS speed to be superimposed on the recorded video. Apparently, ATOTO DVR records front view only and no GPS speed, so I still need a separate DVR to have usable capabilities. I'd use the front camera as an interior view cop cam to record traffic stops but it apparently doesn't record audio. In most other regards, ATOTO seems to provide the features and capabilities that customers want. It's a shame their DVR is almost unusable.
What's your opinion on reliability? Sound quality? I often hear that these don't stand up well in heat or cold. Also hear often that sound quality is horrible.
@@CoupeLouver I've had ZERO issues with the unit. It gets pretty cold here in northern Michigan and haven't noticed an effect. As for the sound quality its decent. I use Power Amp Pro instead of thee built in audio player. Power Amp has some pretty awesome presets. Also I feed an 8" factory sub.

My phone is currently deactivated and since it only works as any tablet I would treat it as a head unit I mean remember portable Walkmans? How about portable head units? Right on 👍👍👍👍
I just installed one in my 2008 super duty. The new unit has a 3.5mm plug built into the wire harness that will plug into a steering wheel button module. This is different from the 3.5mm on the back of the unit. That one is for wireless steering controls. I installed a aswc-1 module. It didn't auto recognize the Atoto. My iPhone hot spot turns on as soon as i pair it via Bluetooth 2, but I have to do that manually every time I start the car.. Have you been able to have Bluetooth 2 automatically pair when you start your car? if so, How did you do it? Thanks.
I have a 2011 Kia Sorento with an Infinity Stereo that has an AMP - the only way to replace the head unit and use the amp is thru a harness made by Metra AX-KYKIA4-SWC - will the Atoto A6 work with that harness?
Hi, I just installed the ATOTO A6 in my 1999 jeep TJ. Thank you for the review and walk through it was very good. But I wanted more information on how to use the GPS function, and you didn't go into much detail. I can get the GPS test function working, but not the GPS. I'm 75 years old and a little slow on this new stuff. Paul
@20:51 THANK YOU, YOU BEAUTIFUL MAN!!! ive been banging my head for hours trying to find EQ screenshot. ive ALWAYS hated stupid head units where its only treble and bass, AND THATS IT! your a flipping saint!
Curious if you can press the home button while in reverse and use the system normally. I plan on making my rear camera be able to work 100% of the time due to having no rear windows.
From what I'm finding in my research is that you cannot override the camera I will update this post if I find anything further. Either way I am going to wire up with a switch so I can use while in forward movement.
I really like the Android interface with these stereos however, they all seem to lack decent RCAs. It seems like all Android car stereos lack attention to this feature set that even the crappiest brand car stereo offers. Then when I look at the double din touch stereos offered by name brand car stereos they all have great connectivity but they typically will use their own propitiatory OS to run the stereo. Which always seem to be lacking compared to even the oldest version of Android.
Where u able to connect a 4 channel amp up to it cuz I’m struggling. Never had such a hard time doing 4 channel amps cuz most aftermarket’s do indeed come with multiple rca outputs. Frustrating 🤦♂️
What do you think of the sound quality? I dont find it great and when I amend an equaliser setting, it reverts back after turning the car off and back on
Luv the review!!!. Have a couple of questions. How would XM radio work with this radio? When I use the tethering option, do I have to be wired? Thanx in advanced
Is this thee one I should geet for my Lexus es 330 2004? Or is there a better option in the 200-450 dollar price range. Honestly from this video, this one looks good
any additional thoughts on this over the last year? Also, any opinions about buying one today considering it is a 3-4 generations behind on Android now, but ATOTO hasn't put out one with an updated version on Android yet?
Will the radio register even and Odd frequencies or just Odd ? I am planning on taking this to the middle east and they use both frequencies. the radios there have 100 khz spacing.
great video. thanks. i have 2 questions. 1 do we need to get a sim card from our cell provider for mobile data? and does the fm radio have an automatic scan button that will play each station for a few seconds then skip to the next? thanks
Incredibly detailed review, thanks! Couple of questions. 1) My sunglasses are polarized and when I wear them, my current stereo's display becomes very dim (unless I tilt my head 90 degrees). Does the ATOTO have the same issue? 2) Can you listen to the radio and hear turn-by-turn directions at the same time? Or in general, how does it handle cases where multiple apps want to play audio?
Thanks! 1) I can see the screen fine with polarized glasses. They don’t affect it much, if at all. 2) It handles GPS directions through Bluetooth while using and listening to the radio app very well. It seems to do a pretty good job with multiple apps that want to play audio.
Hi, great video. you skimmed over the DAB+ app, does it need an external dongle for DAB reception? Also, are is secondary USB port capable of connection, or just for charging? Finally will it connect to the original steering wheel controls, or do you have to purchase thier proprietary remote? Thanks
You can get it work with steering wheel controls but you may need a module to interface it with. Watch our SA102 installation guide which we connect factory steering wheel controls too. You can do data of the USB. Not sure about the DAB+ question tho
The Sundae Drive I know what you meant. It was just funny cause I’ve never heard it. But you made my night much better from laughing. I have a new word and people better know what I mean lol. Is you ATOTO still going strong?
I have bought the standard version for my Mirage. Everything works well except the mic and the USB. There is so much of disturbance with the internal mic and USB it's not detecting my pen drive of 64GB size.
@@TheSundaeDrive Yes I tried formatting pendrive multiple ways but it didn't work, but to my surprise I connected my 4TB external HDD and it worked like a charm.
I'm installing this in my 2014 ram and I got the idatalink cable for it for the console USB I'll let you know if I was able to retain the car play functions. ( Watched your install of the other atoto in the ram)
For the Equalizer when you make adjustments on the custom one, why doesn't it save? How do you make it save so everytime you turn off your car it doesn't reset.
Here’s a little tip that I discovered. I was not able to access the internet or some of my apps. I tried using my home WiFi and tethering my cell phone. I was getting a certificate error. Most likely due to being disconnected from the battery it defaulted back to the original system date on January 1 2010. I reset the time and date and now everything works fine………
Hey do you guys have an after market and subs in your truck? With the sub output option, it seems that when you activate it that sub will work but the volume is adjusted separately from the main speaker volume so your sub plays the same loudness no matter the volume until you hit 0.
@@TheSundaeDrive its sub output. Found out A means auto m means manual. Changed it back and readjusted my sub n amp. Now it sounds waay better. Appreciate your review, you sold me on it.
Sorry, we have been seriously slacking on that video. We actually just finished ordering the rest of the harnesses needed and should be filming in the next couple of weeks. Video should be up soon after. Been slammed all summer with other more pressing videos and work but we will have it soon. Can't say enough good things about the a6 pro tho. It has been working really well.
A6 is definitely a better unit with a lot more features. Just finished the sa102. Good unit but a lot less functionality. Only plus is the built in carplay and android auto
@@TheSundaeDrive thanks a lot man, I appreciate you coming back to let me know. My next question is, what accessories should I get? I want the reverse camera and android auto play but is there anything else I should get? Does the wifi antenna come with it for navigation?
I believe they indicated only their camera would work but I don't see why any other wouldn't work as well unless it used proprietary drivers. If you try it with another camera let ya know. Their backup has worked really well with no issues tho
Oh I'm sorry, I also forgot to ask you....Was it a difficult install for your Chevy? I have a Trailblazer SS and wanted to know how hard it would be. Thanx again
I'm interested in purchasing an Android car radio for my mazda5 2009 grand touring. I was wondering if this would be compatible and if I have a car radio already installed with a harness and steering wheel control would it be an easy switch (or does this not need a steering wheel harness)?
It shouldn't be too hard to switch over. It's possible the existing harnesses may directly plug in (I am not sure if they she standardized) but, if they do, you will have to double check to make sure the pin layout is the seem. We are going to be doing one with steering wheel controls soon so we should be able to provide a bit more feedback on that then
+Darcy Parker I don’t believe so. I think the DVR app specifically looks for one camera and in this case, the front ATOTO camera. There is only one USB port on the back for the camera to plug in. It doesn’t allow me to see my back up camera at all in the software which has a yellow RCA feed into the radio
Can you explain more about the Wi-Fi? did I get this wrong or did you say you could only use the map navigation when you are connected to Wi-Fi? When would you be connected to Wi-Fi except in your home? Also, is it worth getting the Android auto? What will that allow me To do?
If you are connected to WiFi or using your phone as a hotspot you can search for routes. Once you start driving it will continue to use GPS to navigate you to your destination... It just won't be able to use the internet to search for new destinations otherwise. BUT, if you use the Sygic app, it's a completely offline navigation app so once you download the map and can search without an internet connection.
Can you make it turn on faster? And how do I set a radio station to default when I start my Jeep? It’s preset is a static station and it takes so long to turn on it’s hard to find a station while driving especially since i have a standard that I’m still learning to drive 🤦♀️
Interesting took me 2 years to discover. I have an atoto A6 on which I could never use my phone to answer calls or use the blue tooth with. I do not have that bt Icon on my screen
Not the poster of this video, but I do have this head unit. Yes you can map your steering wheel controls manually in the settings menu! It's what I have done.
This is super tempting to get. I've got Pioneer's top unit from about 4 years ago and have been extremely disappointed in it's UI for the price and the GPS updates aren't even free.
@@TheSundaeDrive no, I mean the UI. Like how all different brand android phones give a different experience if you know what I mean. For example, using an S10 isn't the same as a Pixel 3.
Other than switching to a different launcher, such as the Google Now Launcher or CarWebGuru or Car Launcher AG, you’ll be stuck with the same UI with the Bluetooth player and other built in apps. The launchers will change the home screen and menu UI style though.
Great video. I just installed this unit and i can't seem to get my phone contacts onto the unit. I do not have the dongle for apple CarPlay so maybe that is my issue.. Any tips you have?
Is this good audio quality? Lol. I have a pioneer 10 bands (old model, no BT nor USB) but I have a built in infinity audio system preset from my Dodge Durango 2004 (expensive model) not looking to build a heavy music system, just something to enjoy on the louder side nothing crazy.
I know you mainly use ACP but can you see either Here We Go or Sygic I’m the apps store on the unit? I’d like to know if any of these apps work on the ATOTO.
Just tried Sygic. It worked well for my trip. It is not slow or laggy and it will lower the radio or bluetooth music as expected when giving verbal directions
I have this in my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. The truck has steering controls but I haven’t been able to find the schematics I need in order to wire it in. Does anyone have that info by chance? Maybe you covered it in another video and I missed it. Great coverage of the A6. It really helped with my install.
Yes. It may require a different interface module depending on your vehicle. If you watch our full review we show the menu where steering wheel controls are setup from
I'm a little bit confused...this Atoto unit has its own full installation of Android and can link to your phone via bluetooth to make calls. It can also link to your phone to access the internet. So why would anyone need to have Android Auto functionality? It makes sense if you have this unit and an iOS device. I just don't get what Android Auto would do that the unit itself can't already do.
The only plus side is full integration of your phone to the display for messages and music and you don't need to setup a hotspot too use Google maps. Having an Android head unit does eliminate a lot of the need for Android Auto tho
I'm interested because of Google maps. If I don't have wifi can I still input a destination and will it take me there? Also does the unit connect to your phones mobile hotspot to play Pandora or Spotify on the unit? I don't want to burn through my hotspot all the time.
This is the most thourough, defined and explanatory review/demo I have viewed on this type of product. I tip my hat to your team.
Thanks :)

Watch our install on the jeep wrangler. It has an infinity system
Did anyone else want to rapidly tap the "build number" to go into developer mode? Lol
😂😂
AND AGAIN! @28:35 FOR THE AUDIO WIN! your a real bro, bro!
Glad you found our video and it helped answer your questions! :)
Curious if you can press the home button while in reverse and use the system normally. I plan on making my rear camera be able to work 100% of the time due to having no rear windows.
Not sure but definitely let us know if that works!
From what I'm finding in my research is that you cannot override the camera I will update this post if I find anything further. Either way I am going to wire up with a switch so I can use while in forward movement.
2:56 please never say that again
😂😂 #lit isn't that what the cool kids say?? 😛
Lololol
Lmao
Lol
Lmfaoooooooooo i jus-🤣🤣🤣🤣
I dont find it great and when I amend an equaliser setting, it reverts back after turning the car off and back on
Incredibly helpful. Great educational video. Thank you
glad to help!
Great job explaining everything!!
Honestly from this video, this one looks good
Thanks, bro. I am buying this unit in my other tab. Cheers! Subscribed!
Awesome :)
any additional thoughts on this over the last year? Also, any opinions about buying one today considering it is a 3-4 generations behind on Android now, but ATOTO hasn't put out one with an updated version on Android yet?
They our promising a new one in the next few months but it has be severely delayed because of the outbreak. We are supposed to be getting on to test
We also have a one year update video on the channel :)
Can this radio be controlled via Oem car steering wheel controls? If not can you enable this via adding extra interface?
What’s the wiring harness used to retain steering controls on a BOSE system? The link in description seems to no longer work
Will the radio register even and Odd frequencies or just Odd ? I am planning on taking this to the middle east and they use both frequencies. the radios there have 100 khz spacing.
great video. thanks. i have 2 questions. 1 do we need to get a sim card from our cell provider for mobile data? and does the fm radio have an automatic scan button that will play each station for a few seconds then skip to the next? thanks
The volume buttons are set up like a table, thus the volume up button being first/up. Like a tablet.
We actually received another unit for a friend's vehicle (one without gestures but otherwise the same) and it has the volume control buttons reversed
@@TheSundaeDrive Same, my stereo volume buttons are reversed as well. I guess they updated their buttons.
@@sergioa.6657 Guess they realized their mistake
Yea, I'm guessing they got some feedback about. Btw, thanks for the video 👍
No problem! Maybe they watched our video 😂
Do the sub outs have enough voltage to runs a nice amp and subs? How come not a left and right sub out? Thanks guys
I’m having same problem. A6 PF has no rca outputs on back of deck. Cpl hang off harness but only 1 for sub. Scratching my head right now
I just purchased this unit and would like to know if they have a direct wire harness for a nissan nv200. thanks
I would suggest looking on Amazon or crutchfield
Do you need to plug in the USB cable for the navigation to work?
22:09 haha “which apps do whuch.” Hahaha
Good review though I wanna buy one
That was for setting up the steering wheel controls to command certain functions lol. Thanks 👍👍
The Sundae Drive I know what you meant. It was just funny cause I’ve never heard it. But you made my night much better from laughing. I have a new word and people better know what I mean lol. Is you ATOTO still going strong?
Haha yes it is. Installing one in a friend's Jeep too
The Sundae Drive I wanna make sure it will fit in my RSX
I would check the forums 👍
I have bought the standard version for my Mirage. Everything works well except the mic and the USB. There is so much of disturbance with the internal mic and USB it's not detecting my pen drive of 64GB size.
The mic is decidedly not fantastic for sure. The card should work tho. Are you sure you formatted it properly?
@@TheSundaeDrive Yes I tried formatting pendrive multiple ways but it didn't work, but to my surprise I connected my 4TB external HDD and it worked like a charm.
Hmm that is interesting. Maybe that specific pendrive is just having issues 🤷🏼♂️
great walk through! defintely will pick up one soon for my rsx. thnx
Awesome! Glad it helped you out
theres no rsx content on your page lameee
:(
Does youtube play thru all your speakers or just the front speakers
how did you update the firmware? i have the a6g2a7pg and i had a link from atoto and the zip file says empty
I'm installing this in my 2014 ram and I got the idatalink cable for it for the console USB I'll let you know if I was able to retain the car play functions. ( Watched your install of the other atoto in the ram)
Ok awesome! Let us know for sure.
For the Equalizer when you make adjustments on the custom one, why doesn't it save? How do you make it save so everytime you turn off your car it doesn't reset.
Only 1 of the choices will keep changes. It is either "flat" or "custom" i dont remember which they call it, but one will keep the changes
Just came across this as I am looking at doing a double din in my 98 TJ but I want to use the camera as a rock camera. Curious if it can be done.
Hmm no we do not have aftermarket subs. Maybe there is an internal setting in one of the menus where the sensitivity can be adjusted.
@@TheSundaeDrive its sub output. Found out A means auto m means manual. Changed it back and readjusted my sub n amp. Now it sounds waay better.
Appreciate your review, you sold me on it.
Awesome! Glad you were able to get it working👍👍
Very nice thorough video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
After turning the car off does music playing from the USB or SD card resume from where it left when you turn the car back on? And is there much delay?
So I didnt see a updated video with the new Atoto Sa102? Is the a6 better ? Just need to know before I buy
Question is there a button to turn on the backup camera without being in reverse? If so how did you wire it?
Can you only use their brand back up camera or can you use any camera
I believe they indicated only their camera would work but I don't see why any other wouldn't work as well unless it used proprietary drivers. If you try it with another camera let ya know. Their backup has worked really well with no issues tho
Wish they put HD Radio in the tuner. DAB+ is not used in the US its for UK & EU as they use it.
Good to know!
Thanks for the analysis. Well done !
No problem! Thanks
Oh I'm sorry, I also forgot to ask you....Was it a difficult install for your Chevy? I have a Trailblazer SS and wanted to know how hard it would be. Thanx again
We have the installation video on the channel - shows the whole process :)
We are going to be doing one with steering wheel controls soon so we should be able to provide a bit more feedback on that then
I'm looking at the Pro (without gestures) but prefer front and rear DVR. Will DVR work with 2 cams?
03:40 you gotta love Chinese industrial design
😂😂 Haha yes. We actually installed the one in our friend's jeep that we just published on the channel and the orientation was fixed
@@TheSundaeDrive I'm just unboxing mine from amazon and found the same thing (correct orientation)! They must be paying attention!
@@nor_cal_trailrides9990 guess they watched our review! Haha
How do you change the background to like pictures or like something Else
Awesome review. Thanks for going over all the "buh-ins" lol
😂😂 no problem
LOL
Hah. Regarding typos...in the Toyota Matrix factory manual there are typos. One, I sear to god, they spelled flywheel "frywheel"
Great Video!!! My vehicle already have steering wheel control for the stereo... will the ATOTO head unit be compatible with it ?
Not the poster of this video, but I do have this head unit. Yes you can map your steering wheel controls manually in the settings menu! It's what I have done.
Thanks for the response 👍👍and ditto
Hey man i have a vw golf and it has parking distance sensors would it still work on this head unit?
Are there inputs for sideview cameras? Or could youvrig something to allow you a bird's eye view of your car?
They have a kit you can get: amzn.to/2KnsfXL
Does RUclips work while driving?
This is super tempting to get. I've got Pioneer's top unit from about 4 years ago and have been extremely disappointed in it's UI for the price and the GPS updates aren't even free.
Android head units are where it is at now for sure because you get so much now control and customization
@@TheSundaeDrive Can you use different skins on these head units?
Like different backgrounds? I would imagine so but this is not something we have tried
I’ll try to install them this week and let you know how they work
That would be greatly appreciated.
Just tried Sygic. It worked well for my trip. It is not slow or laggy and it will lower the radio or bluetooth music as expected when giving verbal directions
@@TheSundaeDrive thank you for taking the time to check it out. I think I'll be getting the A6. Cheers!
I just got this unit. My volume up is on the right.. I wonder if you got a bad batch or if they changed it because of complaints
I think we got an early model and they probably updated it from complaints.
Did you end up finding out?
@@spydaman617 no
Thank you for this!
Glad it was helpful!
I have the 10" version and it constantly adjusts eq automatically. Is there a way to disable that?
Thank you for a wonderful and detailed review - has there been an update of this product?
No problem! Had no issues with it at all but we swapped out for an S8 model atoto about 6 months ago to test that. No issues with either one 👍👍
We also have a 12 month update on this a6 on the channel you can check out.
@@TheSundaeDrive to replace a simple radio in a Toyota the harness connections have to done individually
I have a wifi obdII sensor, will this radio interface with it or would I need to buy a bluetooth one?
I am not sure if that will connect. Let us know if it does!
Will it work with the original steering wheel controls that came with the car?
Yes. It may require a different interface module depending on your vehicle. If you watch our full review we show the menu where steering wheel controls are setup from
@@mdroproductions What is the ground cable?
How do you get the buttons at the bottom to illuminate?
What dash kit did you use? Got the same truck

Great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! It ended up being a little long but there was a lot to go through 😬
Hey Pete I just installed the atotot a6 it’s not the pro, but now my music won’t play on Bluetooth. Any suggestions?
Atoto have just started selling a panoramic rear camera which looks pretty cool 😬
We’ll have to check those out next!
Whats the sub preamp output voltage
like 0.8👎🏼
Can I connect the ATOTO A6 unito to my already existing wheel control in my nissan frontier 2017?
Yes, watch our video of the sa102 install in the dodge ram and we show how to hook up wheel controls. Process will be similar on the a6
Is this better than the Nakamichi NA6880 Android? NA6880's very promising, plus it has a fan on the back with bigger heat sinks.
Not sure. Would need to check that out. I just know that this one had worked well for us for a year. No overheating issues at all
I'm a little bit confused...this Atoto unit has its own full installation of Android and can link to your phone via bluetooth to make calls.
You can download offline map applications which do not require a hotspot and will work with the included GPS antenna
How can we make it start earlier? Mine is around 30-40 secs.
