You are blessing to me! I've just stared to play and there is no even one school around me that learn playing banjo. It is pity because it was my dream. So here you are and I guess dreams come true! Greetings from Poland!
I have been getting so discouraged by RUclips banjo lessons. This one is the best one I have found. Presentation and explanation are perfect for this banjo beginner. Thank you!
I like the way you presented yourself and the way you teach. I have purchased a banjo for the first time, and I'm 71 years old. I plan on learning it as well as the other 4 instruments that I can play.Thank you for your help. I will subscribe.
@@barrysmith8193 Eli plays right handed, and as such, teaches people the same way. The majority of players play the strumming with their right hand, fretting with the left. If that's not for you, you may need to specify your search terms with "left handed" in quotations so it actually populates what you're looking for. Otherwise you're going to find all lessons fitting "banjo lessons" which usually mean right handed playing style.
Thank you for this lesson on chords, thorough and precise, without wasting time on too much talking. It helped me a great deal. I play guitar and ukulele, and now I made some good progress on the banjo.
Liked and Subscribed! For Uber basics, this is the video. Work 30 mins -1 hour and your confidence will skyrocket. I was intimidated before, but now I believe I can do it with a little practice.
Eli, this is one of the best lessons that I have viewed regarding chords, chord changes and practice suggestions. I am self-teaching myself to play banjo (there are no teachers within a 2 hour drive of me) but I am enrolled in one of the internet programs for learning the banjo. I will say that I am a beginner even though I have been attempting to play now for a bit over a year and the internet course that I am enrolled in doesn't come anywhere close to teaching banjo as well as you do. So, Thank You very much! I appreciate you!
For me a lot of those fifth string notes that don't actually belong in the cord but still sound good seem to be a passing note. Thanks for going slow without a lot of extra talking!
Great information! Well presented, and explained. I'm interested in creating my own chord diagrams, like those you displayed in the video. Can I ask if there is a program, app that you use to create the diagrams?
I am 82 years old and love banjo music. I am excited to be on day 3 of your 30 days of banjo but my index finger doesn't bend far enough on my left hand. Are there any exercises I can do to make the first joint more flexible?
Good to see your post. I'm 70 and I can play a few chords and strum along with some songs, but I was thinking, because of my age , is it really worth starting to learn properly, for real. Obviously you're not letting age deter you, so neither will I.
Eli , you rock , best lesson ever .I have been playing guitar , tenor banjo and mandolin since 1972 . Always.loved the 5 string but didn't have the time to learn . Started playing semi pro in 76 and I am now retired and bought a G banjo at last . Couldn't have found a better tutor , you are so cool and right on point , thanks very.much . @seancreaney7 .
I lost my left index finger in an accident several years ago. I have played the banjo before the accident. Only 1/3 of it remains. Do you have any suggestions. ? Did create an extension out of a plastic tube. Getting use to playing it on my lap.
Lost indian uses a B minor chord actually, it's in the key of D. A pretty popular song that uses D minor is Shady Grove. That song is commonly played in that key, so you'll be getting lots of use for that chord. I can't think of any particular songs that use B major consistently without the capo, but if you play any song in the key of E major with no capo you'll be using B major pretty frequently
Yes all the way up, A ,.. A# B C C# D and so on , as he said as the minor chord for the shorter Am. 3 strings keep that shape and move up the same way. But what I want to know is where is the chord charts for this lesson .. Eli said in the link but I can't find it
A full month of doing hand stretching and trying, and I still can't even play 4 chords. I have extremely disproportionate hands, with HUGE handpalms and very small stubby fingers. I think I have to admit the Banjo, like every other string instrument is just not for me.
Well I don't have the money to get your Paterion. I am on Social security and have to make every penny count . Maybe I can find someone that will make me a copy.
Eli….Why are you showing the fingering on the chord box in opposite to what you are actually playing? Your representation should be the same in both cases. You are showing a left hand chord box for right handers. If you are going to include left handers in your beginners lessons your narrative to be all inclusive. Otherwise inform us up front that these are right handed lessons so we don’t waste any more time with you.
The best banjo beginner chords tutorial on RUclips for me.

I just bought my 1st banjo
The 30 day series is a great starter series!
I’m here to agree and also Recommend the 30 day series to everyone. It’s truly amazing
Good for both right handers and left handers? I don’t need anymore right handed lessons in my life.

The finger picking pattern to practice the chords was so helpful!

This video has been really helpful. I’m watching it over again and again. Saved to faves.

I am sure THIS Teacher has a very high success rate.
Great information and instructions Eli, thanks so much!!!
I especially like the C chord. Anything that starts with the middle finger is for me.😁😇
Eli Thank you for this, and that 30 days of Banjo course you have is just fantastic! Can't thank you enough! 🪕🪕🎵🎵
loved the practice tip at the end - I struggle to transition chords rapidly
Thank you! Someone who can explain these in a way I can use! Great tutoreial.

Thanks mate. Exactly what I was looking for. Coming from guitar to banjo was melting my head a bit, but this video has helped a lot.

This is a great help for the beginner. (I shouldn't bother with explaining how every chord sounds odd with the addition of the G , I think we get it.)
Thank you Sir, this was very helpful!
Excellent tutorial.
THX soo much !
great video

Just stretch daily
this may sound stupid, but if you are reading tabs, and the chord says D instead of like D major or minor then how do you know which to play?
If it just says D then it's D Major
Dm is minor
thanks bro i appreciate

Eli, do you have lessons on putting a banjo picking pattern sound to a chord melody heavy tune? If so, where might I find them.
Good tips, thanks. Now to figure which rolls go best. And more therapy excercise. (ew on that last one)
Hey Eli! Is it correct that you slowed down the pace remarkably? Only 1 post per month in patreon?
Awesome.
Please do more music theory vids.
Bravo.

IS that a U or a D shape banjo ?
Are there any songs that use b major and b minor? Never heard of any that don't use them unless you're capo'd at A. And what about d minor?

Sorry for all the comments, but can you use that bar shape A and B chord for any major chord

G over the D chord is a G major 9 right?
A lot of these are inversions.with the 3rd or 5th in the base I see
every time i try to play chords my strings just sound muted….
Either you arent pressing hard enough or your banjo isn’t setup right and needs some adjustments, such as the neck moving forward
A full month of doing hand stretching and trying, and I still can't even play 4 chords. I have extremely disproportionate hands, with HUGE handpalms and very small stubby fingers.
