I took a break from banjo for about 6 months. Started a new job working second shift. So, basically I'm always tired and lazy on my off days and devoting my free time to the family and chores and "honey do's" But this is the first lessons I came back to when I cracked open the banjer case. With a little muscle memory I'm back in. Thanks, Jim
@@JimPankey Consider me sub'd too. LOL, Gotta say, Leaning into frame is a bit quirky..... in a lovable way. Keep it up Fuzzy, thanks for giving of yourself, you've taught me a lot. I've been playing by eye and ear near on forty + yrs on now guitar and mandolin, and the primary reason I picked banjo, was because I wanted to be a better finger picker on guitar than a cpl of my brothers. I've never been much for "paper learning" kind of guy, a bird can't read music, but each of us had our times sounding pretty sweet at one time or another.
This !! Wow!! I get it. I play the piano and now learning banjo and saw the keys going up/down. This has made it so simple to learn. Now is just getting muscle memory holding the strings down on the frets.
Such a great idea for a video! Thank you for demystifying the geography a bit, and helping my brain make connections between the random chords I’ve memorized by rote up to this point. Super helpful! 👏
I love your lessons, thank you for teaching. In my country (the Netherlands) not many people play this instrument. And for me this is one of the only ways to actually learn this instrument. I have no musical background so the clear explanations help a lot. Could you maybe on time do a short lesson on reading banjo tabs and picking patterns it would help a lot
Ok, now I see how my guitar has helped me with my banjo neck, knew the alphabet on guitar neck and the shapes this lesson turned the banjo neck on this has opened up doors I didn't even know were there. Thanks, ANOTHER good job by Jim!!!
There is no separation ( in between chord) for E to F or from B to C. Just in case you don't already know that. The others have sharps and flats between each of the major chords.
Beginner player here and this is the video i needed. my brain can't just let me pick up a new instrument and start learning songs without knowing the theory and techniques first. Love from Idaho
I would like to request Deep Elem Blues. If you post it , I can learn it. I have trouble with other RUclips instructors...well because they aren't Jim Pankey. You are the best sir. Thanks either way for what you do Jim.
Cool, less overwhelming now. I was wondering because on button Accordion all Major cords are 1 shape. They should have this on the chord chard. Your the best.
Hey Jim. Quick question. How can I use regular rolls like the forward and reverse roll and alternating patterns that use the 5th string with these chord shapes. The 5 string is more often then not not usable with these shapes are they?
Learning where the root note of each of those chords will tell you why and where to go onto the neck. Once you actually learn the notes on each string.. it makes jumping right to that chord shape much easier.. Just saying!

Keep pickin’ 😄
Right there with you. Let’s keep it going, 10 minutes a day
When you walked that D shape back into a C chord my jaw dropped and I felt my mind expanding
Awesome!!
Great! 👍 thanks again.
The way I remember there are no sharps or flats between B to C and E to F. Think Betty Crocker (BC) Eats Food (EF).
Great way to remember!
Thanks Jim what a good teacher you are .
I appreciate that!
THANKS 👍

Good afternoon, great video. One question, do I need to learn the 3 shapes to make the major chords or is just 1 shape enough to make them?
Learn all three shapes
Hey Jim can you teach us Sunny Side of Life on banjo 🙏🏻
Thanks for the suggestion
Thanks a lot!
You are very welcome! 😊
Even if i wasn't learning banjo, I think id like Jim.

What about the high g string? How can you incorporate it while moving up the fretboard?
For the most part it remains open…

Yes! Use the 5th, it’s ok.
Alright perfect! Thanks Jim I'll try things out.
" C it's still the same shape ."😅🎉 🎶
🤓
so, is it fair to say FAD is to banjo what CAGED is to guitar?
Kinda sorta, yeah
Hey y'all 🪕
Hey!!
My fingers hurt...I like the your outlook on learning, I'm retraining my brain....✌️
