- So, I rewatched The O.C. season one, and it was… interesting? Definitely different from what I remembered. The soundtrack made me feel nostalgic, not so much the fashion, although it was incredibly authentic to the early 2000s. In this video, I am analyzing the characters of Ryan, Seth, and Marissa, deep diving into the similarities between The OC and Gossip Girl, providing some cultural context for the nerd culture of the early 2000s, and many more.

It's not unrealistic that Seth lacked friends before the beginning of the series. But not because there was nobody at the school or yacht lessons with his same interests, rather due to his shyness and no selfconfidence (all that changed with Ryan's arrival). But I do agree in the fact he was extremely selfish, something never addressed in the show. I also agree that many of Marisa's mistakes were influenced by her parents poor nurturing.
loooooved season 1 of the oc. you're right, they all had good chemistry with each other which is why it worked so well.
My issue with Marissa is she never really developed as a character, kept making the same mistakes, and never took responsibility. Seth was self absorbed but that was part of his character arc that he eventually started to overcome by the final season. I love mischa Barton, I think she’s a stunning talented actress. I think Marissa was fine in the first season but in later seasons she needed more development then what was given to her and not have her keep making the same mistakes.
Josh didnt know how deal with this character / how to develop, I believe thats why she got cut off
@@brown3yes585 sad because the other female characters on that show were great! Taylor and Summer were so well written and both had really good character development. I wish the same could be said for Marissa but by the third season I felt done with her 😞

Thanks for this video! I always liked Marissa too and find it unfair of people to be hating on her so much. She was a young girl who grew up in a privileged and closed-in community, but was not happy, feeling the emptiness of it. I remember reading one of the O.C. books (I was around 14) which played in between season 1 and 2, where Marissa explained how Ryan was her escape from that empty (fake), rich world, which I had not realized before. She had a lot of bad things happening around her and mostly it wasn't her fault when things turned even worse - being nice to people and giving them a chance isn't a flaw to me. I guess I also always appreciated the drama surrounding her (it is a TV show after all).
I absolutely love season 1 of the o.c it's definitely one of the best seasons in the series to me
today seth cohen would probably be autistic or adhd (or both). He can’t stop obsessing about Summer or comic books 😂 i kinda relate to him, unfortunately I’m very self-centred and I don’t realise I am until people tell me
Marissa and Ryan are my favorite characters in the show because I did understand them in certain ways

The characters from the OC were OC’s (original characters) whereas Gossip Girl’s characters were already well known and established years before the show was made so they had to keep them basically the same.

Ryan kinda drove me a little crazy too. Like he literally just canNOT keep his nose out of everybody’s business lol

Seth & summer were childish at times but they were lovable still. Marrisa had great moments but it was very annoying.
Seth and summer have a lot of flaws but they evolve, Marissa keeps making the same mistakes again and again

Marrisa parents were horrible hence why it made sense why she turned out like she did.

Anna = Vanessa
plus they were both created by the same person!
What do Ryan and Nate have in common?
I agree with liking Marissa over Seth because I always thought Seth was self-centered, and everyone only hated Marissa because of double standards. Marissa was going through it the entire show, and I don't understand why people hate her.
