There's a special tool to set injection pump timing. It's installed on the three-sided plug at the back of the hydraulic head (see the small bolt at the center plug). You can see the plunger move based on the reading on the dial gauge.
The solenoid valve lets fuel in. If there's power being supplied, there should be a clicking sound. That means its working. Note the direction of the feed pump while assembling. I have another video explaining that in more detail. Also, other adjustments are needed to put it within specs. It is recommended to test run it on a test bench to see if the pump's rotor head is still in working order.
hi from uk been running a ve pump on waste oil and after 7 ,000 miles my pumps are stalling at tick over and require a squirt of brake cleaner.they are off rover 420 turbo diesels with the electronic flyby wire stripped the pumps and see very slight shining at low pressure feed in .the high pressure seems to be fine .have you any information that i could adapt the pump or if you can point me to the possible wearing part and how to overcome it tried inline electric pump runs ok once started thank
@@webslinger2011 dear it is just a simple VE pump with mechanical governor and with mechanical pintle type injector , same as the one you shown in this video
Internal pressure of the ve is very small. If you're asking about pressure in the fuel line.It's the same pressure dictated by the injector. If you want to get higher pressures, use an injector with higher pressure(just to see if it can reach it). Usually, if the pumps fails to deliver enough fuel for starting(even after adjusting MS), then the rotorhead needs replacing.

It's kind of hard to understand from your comment. The best thing to do in low power situations is to look for restrictions in the fuel system. Fuel filter, pinched line etc...

I am putting a VE pump on a 2002 24V farm Truck. I saw online where I should advance the timing 2 teeth on the pump gear is this correct?
Why would it need that? VE pump already has built-in timing advance.

Look at the pump's license bosch number. VE/4....RND.. There is a letter on it L for left and R for right.

If it's the common rail pump, it will require additional specialized equipment. Test bench must be modified to drive the pump.

You need to adjust based specifications described in calibration data of the pump and also the model or type of engine it's made for.
