    To protect against double charges, I use two loading blocks, transferring each case from the first block to the second after it comes from the powder charger. To protect against no charges I also do a final check with a flash light of that second loading block before I begin bullet seating.

    I’m a total beginner in reloading so this is the perfect video for me. Equipment used and caliber loaded are the exact setup I have, except scale and primer tool. Thank you so much!

    I used a Hornady manual to teach myself reloading on an RCBS Rock Chucker back in 1974 when I got back from 2 years, 8 months & 26 days with the army in Germany...I had no one to ask - dad was skeptical about the whole setup...my first powder was Unique - loading .44 Mag & Spl for my S&W Mod 29...eventually I graduated to progressive presses but I still have the Rock Chucker press that I Bought in Germany 50 years ago in 1972...

      That's great! I still use my Pacific (Hornady) press I bought in the late 70's. Thanks for your thoughts and watching!

    Good tutorial for beginners. A lot of the topics you hit here apply to progressive presses. I use a progressive for 38/357 and when you break it down stage by stage it is essentially a way to run four single stage dies at a time.

    • @30-06john
      @30-06john  3 года назад

      Thanks! Yes, the steps are the same, but progressive presses do several steps at the same time. Thanks again!

    First loads I made. Got damn accurate results. Can shoot a playing card in half sitting sideways. Picked up brass, and cheap bulk bullets. When I was loading alot years ago, was able to load a box of 50 to under $4 a box! Very economical.

    I always make a dummy/proof round for each bullet weight...it helps me set up my dies if I ever change the adjustments for different bullet weights...and I electropencil the information on the case

    Will lead bullets foul the bore with mild loads?

    • @30-06john
      @30-06john  Год назад

      Leading of the bore is a combination of velocity and lead bullet hardness. Many softer lead bullets will not lead to bad if kept under 1000fps, what most 38 special is loaded to. If the same bullet is pushed to 357 Magnum velocity, it will lead. I shoot a lot of hard cast lead bullets and don't have much of a leading problem. I hope that helps and thanks for watching.

    I had problems with the hornady 125 xtp with 4.4 grains of 231. squib load I went up to 4.9 but that's close to max. Any advice

    • @30-06john
      @30-06john  3 года назад

      By squib load, I assume that the primer went off but the report was mild, maybe the bullet got stuck in the barrel? I think focus on these 2 areas: 1.make sure that each round has powder, I have seen where only a primer, and no powder, will push a bullet into the barrel. 2. make sure there is a good roll crimp, light charges and bullets need a good crimp to build adequate pressure. Also 4.4gr of 231 and a 125gr XTP is actually below minimum charge in the Hornady manual but not Hodgdon. Always good to reference more than 1 load data. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions. Hey, thanks for the question and watching!

    • @randomruss651
      @randomruss651 3 года назад

      @@30-06john yes the bullet stuck in the barrel it did help to go up on the charge. I'll try a better crimp also. Thank you
