In 2008 or 9, I came across a little book by a French mother, Anne-Dauphine Julliand, who lost her baby girl, who had been suffering from an incurable illness. She describes how she wore red nailpolish at her funeral, and so did all the women in the congregation. She explained that this was their way of not letting themselves down: A twinkle towards luck that there woul be better times to come. This video somehow reminded me of her story, which has stayed with me ever since. Knowing overwhelming depressive episodes all my life, I have started to wear lipstick every day, no matter what. I get up in the morning, get dressed, follow my routines on good days as well as bad days. And guess what? Something has changed recently. During this COVID period, I purchased more lipsticks ever than before. Lipsticks are quite addictive. All my mask have lipstick marks on the inner side. Thank you for sharing your favorite! Love it!
I know, right?!?! What's up with that, I also purchased so many lipsticks in the last months even though nobody can see me wearing them. And also invested in high quality lipsticks...my visa hurts.
If you use cloth masks, I would suggest placing a piece of paper towel slightly smaller that the mask to layer over your mouth/bottom of your face so that the makeup won't mess up so much of the mask. If you use disposable ones, then the marks are nbd and I'd suggest wearing those on days wear you have on a full face of makeup!
@@kellygreengables3936 I sometimes cut up a coffee filter and put it on the inside of a cloth mask. This way, my lipstick doesn’t transfer to the cloth mask and it also offers an extra layer of virus protection!

I’m 72 and have always loved makeup, especially lipstick. The colour that suits me best is a sort of reddish brown - neither too dark nor too light. If it’s too dark I look like a drag queen; too light and I look ill. I usually buy Clarins or Estée Lauder. It’s a traumatic experience if a favourite colour is discontinued! But I always find the assistants are very helpful when it comes to picking a new shade. This was a very interesting video - thank you! 😘. You look fabulous in all those shades you demonstrated.
Right??? It’s a traumatic experience for me when ANY of my favorite/staple/ride-or-die beauty, body, makeup, or skincare products are discontinued😩. My all-time favorite facial foaming cleanser (a Shiseido product) was fairly recently discontinued and I almost had a meltdown (ok, a little exaggerated .. but not much!). Why do they always seem to discontinue the BEST products??😞
All mine get discontinued! What would you say is the best reddish brown? I'm desperate to find one. I used to use a make which was called Me Me Me, from Superdrug which was the perfect reddy brown, but, you guessed it discontinued!. I've still got a bit left and I covet it

Her lipsticks have been on my wishlist for so long but regular lipsticks don’t sit well on my lips they crease and look uneven which is why I prefer liquid lipsticks. I’m nervous that I’ll buy and won’t like how it wears
@@annap1340 try using a lip primer on your lips before applying a lipstick that normally wouldn’t sit well on your lips .. that might help. Have you already tried that? OR, put something really hydrating on your lips (even something like Laneige lip sleeping mask .. not really just a “mask,” I use it on top of lipsticks quite often) BEFORE you start your makeup routine. Then, put your lipstick on last. When it comes time to apply it, first gently blot off the layer of Laneige lip mask, swipe on your lip primer, put on your lipstick, and voila!👌🏼. You’ll have beautiful 👄.,
Once, I tried Lisa’s Eldridge lipstick in Velvet Ribbon, I decided that I do not need any other lipstick in my life... and then I couldn’t stop myself and bought 5 other of her lipsticks.

@AnnieSuplicy To me the Velvet lipsticks from Lisa Eldridge have the perfect texture. They are matt but without being flat. I adore the shades. I paint and I am quite sensitive to colours and I find many of her shades multidimensional. I bought her lipsticks at the very beginning before she had any lipliners in her collection and I found that when I paint the edges of my lips with a brush to get the shape, there is no need for a liner because the lipstick does not bleed even with the darkest shades. I also find the packaging quite chic and it feels like it is of high quality and the velvet texture on the lipstick is just the final touch to make it feel extra special and luxurious. But I am no makeup expert and I have not tried endless amounts of makeup plus I try to keep my makeup bag as small as possible. I got rid of my Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks after trying Lisa Eldridge. CT were good lipsticks but slightly more creamy and less long lasting than LE.

I own 7 Lisa shares and glosses. Every one is a winner. I wasn’t a lipstick wearer but as a Lisa fan I had to have one when they first came out. Now I’m a lipstick convert. I may have to give the Chanel one a try as it seems very wearable every day 💜
Years ago, my mother used all Max Factor products. She often used a lovely peachy coral. First she would dot it along the bottom of her cheek bones, then blend it up over the cheeks. She had such a healthy glow! The she would take her lip liner brush and create the outline of her lips so they were even. Finally, she would fill in her lips and then gently blot them. No starlet looked as beautiful!
When I think of iconic lipsticks, the first thing I think of is black honey from clinique. I remember my mom having it in her makeup when I was a kid. I have it in my mine today as an adult. It's not crazy opaque but its buildable, fast to put on without fuss, and comfortable on the lips. Thank you for showing so many different shades of red. Not all are equal.

I scoop out the bottom of my lipsticks with a clear lip gloss wand. 2 things- I get every lit bit out of the base of the tube and it turns my gloss into the shade of lipstick that I love. I always sold a clear lipgloss to any client who came up needing a new lipstick because they had gotten to (what they thought) was the very end!

I really love the Very Victoria by Charlotte Tilbury. It's similar to Pillow Talk, but with more cooler undertones. I also LOVE Faux by Mac! And last but not least i'm a big fan of the Bobbi Brown Baby color.
I would have loved to have seen pics of them all at the end to compare. For me the Dior is probably the one that will suit me most. I think more than any other colour getting the right red is so dependant on skin tone and colour.
I want whatever everyone else is smoking.....because Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk felt like I was trying to use a Crayola Crayon as lipstick. The color looked pasty on this olive skin tone vieja.
The clinique poppy was definitely your authentic colour. Goes to show that things don't have to be expensive, hyped up or great packaging. That one suited you the best hands down

I rarely buy clothes and shoes maybe every two years only when something wears out. I have a small great quality closet - like everything would fit in a six foot closet. I wear makeup about 9 different makeups. Target Cleansing oil and la roche posay cleanser. A $40 lipstick is acceptable for me if it’s perfect for me and lasts a year since I usually buy two Chanel at once in same color. One at home one in my purse

You can tap a bit on your lips and wear it as a stain or go bold. Reminds me of a lacquer but soft and doesn’t transfer much when it sets. Def worth the price. I think it comes in about 20 something shades. My favorite on you was the Lisa Eldridge red. Oh my! Beautiful on you!

I have a love/hate relationship with red lipstick. I want a great red, and I feel like I can’t find one that’s great in me. Part of that is probably because I’m not used to seeing myself with a bold lip-even though I adore lipstick. 😵💫. But - today I bought my first Pat McGrath Labs, and I got Elson. It’s a stretch for me to spend that on a lipstick. And O-M-G, it’s so fabulous. I’m hooked. It’s going to be my signature color. You’re right about the formula- feels like liquid powder. And the amount of pigment gives it staining staying power. At first I thought it was wearing off pretty fast, and worried it was drying me out. But, now that it’s been 6 hrs I realize the stain it leaves is good for hours, even after eating. A dose of balm combats the small bit of dryness, and the color is still great. Big Elson ❤️❤️❤️❤️.

This list is definitely legit. I have tried almost all of these recommendedations at Sephora and they all look fabulous. My favorites are the red Armani lipstick in 400 which I receive loads of compliments on when I wear it, and Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution lipsticks. The 90s shades are to die for. I think the best looking and most affordable on the list would be MAC Velvet Teddy.
Look for Ali‘s Tutorial for Lippsticks an lips- its work. I am older and my Lips are smaller when as i was younger- but look for the Color of the Lippsstick - nudecolors works better than red or pink.
@AFL Rookie Never understood how women accept those "duck lips" look. Don't see any beauty or attractiveness in them at all, to me they resemble those smooth sausage-shaped balloons. I love KVD liquid lipstick in Lolita. I used to wear it all the time. Everyone always asked what I was wearing on my lips and it stayed on for a long time.
I think Lancome Rouge l'Absolu #47 Rouge Rayonnant is a hidden classic. It's been in the collection forever, and it's a perfect, universal red for everybody. It's a bright red with a tiny hint of gold and I have yet to find a person that it does not look good on. I've been wearing it since I was a teenager, my mom wears it, her mother wears it...it's my substitute for the perfect little black dress - always on style and elevates any look. I do love that Versace 400, so gorgeous!
I love the Armani red lipstick. it is my favoite one of my collection. i have it in shade 403 which is a bit deeper and more suitable for darker skin tones.

One favourite I have been using and have purchased many times over the years is the Estee Lauder PURE COLOR ENVY LIPSTICK NO. 440 Irresistible. It's a midium pinky browny mauve. Beautiful and easy.

I know, right?!?! What's up with that, I also purchased so many lipsticks in the last months even though nobody can see me wearing them. And also invested in high quality lipsticks...my visa hurts.
If you use cloth masks, I would suggest placing a piece of paper towel slightly smaller that the mask to layer over your mouth/bottom of your face so that the makeup won't mess up so much of the mask. If you use disposable ones, then the marks are nbd and I'd suggest wearing those on days wear you have on a full face of makeup!
@@kellygreengables3936 I sometimes cut up a coffee filter and put it on the inside of a cloth mask. This way, my lipstick doesn’t transfer to the cloth mask and it also offers an extra layer of virus protection!

Lisa Eldridge lipsticks are an experience. I love how you saved it for last.
I’m 72 and have always loved makeup, especially lipstick. The colour that suits me best is a sort of reddish brown - neither too dark nor too light. If it’s too dark I look like a drag queen; too light and I look ill. I usually buy Clarins or Estée Lauder. It’s a traumatic experience if a favourite colour is discontinued! But I always find the assistants are very helpful when it comes to picking a new shade. This was a very interesting video - thank you! 😘. You look fabulous in all those shades you demonstrated.

My all-time favorite facial foaming cleanser (a Shiseido product) was fairly recently discontinued and I almost had a meltdown (ok, a little exaggerated .. but not much!). Why do they always seem to discontinue the BEST products??😞

@@annap1340 try using a lip primer on your lips before applying a lipstick that normally wouldn’t sit well on your lips .. that might help. Have you already tried that? OR, put something really hydrating on your lips (even something like Laneige lip sleeping mask .. not really just a “mask,” I use it on top of lipsticks quite often) BEFORE you start your makeup routine. Then, put your lipstick on last. When it comes time to apply it, first gently blot off the layer of Laneige lip mask, swipe on your lip primer, put on your lipstick, and voila!👌🏼. You’ll have beautiful 👄.,
Once, I tried Lisa’s Eldridge lipstick in Velvet Ribbon, I decided that I do not need any other lipstick in my life... and then I couldn’t stop myself and bought 5 other of her lipsticks.

@AnnieSuplicy To me the Velvet lipsticks from Lisa Eldridge have the perfect texture. They are matt but without being flat. I adore the shades. I paint and I am quite sensitive to colours and I find many of her shades multidimensional. I bought her lipsticks at the very beginning before she had any lipliners in her collection and I found that when I paint the edges of my lips with a brush to get the shape, there is no need for a liner because the lipstick does not bleed even with the darkest shades. I also find the packaging quite chic and it feels like it is of high quality and the velvet texture on the lipstick is just the final touch to make it feel extra special and luxurious. But I am no makeup expert and I have not tried endless amounts of makeup plus I try to keep my makeup bag as small as possible. I got rid of my Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks after trying Lisa Eldridge. CT were good lipsticks but slightly more creamy and less long lasting than LE.

Everyone has different shaped lips so I think practice makes perfect really because nobody can apply lipstick the way you would like it.
Perfect placement is partially a bit over the line and partially following the natural line.

I own 7 Lisa shares and glosses. Every one is a winner. I wasn’t a lipstick wearer but as a Lisa fan I had to have one when they first came out. Now I’m a lipstick convert. I may have to give the Chanel one a try as it seems very wearable every day 💜
Years ago, my mother used all Max Factor products. She often used a lovely peachy coral. First she would dot it along the bottom of her cheek bones, then blend it up over the cheeks. She had such a healthy glow! The she would take her lip liner brush and create the outline of her lips so they were even. Finally, she would fill in her lips and then gently blot them. No starlet looked as beautiful!

When I think of iconic lipsticks, the first thing I think of is black honey from clinique. I remember my mom having it in her makeup when I was a kid. I have it in my mine today as an adult. It's not crazy opaque but its buildable, fast to put on without fuss, and comfortable on the lips.

I scoop out the bottom of my lipsticks with a clear lip gloss wand. 2 things- I get every lit bit out of the base of the tube and it turns my gloss into the shade of lipstick that I love. I always sold a clear lipgloss to any client who came up needing a new lipstick because they had gotten to (what they thought) was the very end!

I really love the Very Victoria by Charlotte Tilbury. It's similar to Pillow Talk, but with more cooler undertones. I also LOVE Faux by Mac! And last but not least i'm a big fan of the Bobbi Brown Baby color.
I would have loved to have seen pics of them all at the end to compare. For me the Dior is probably the one that will suit me most. I think more than any other colour getting the right red is so dependant on skin tone and colour.
I want whatever everyone else is smoking.....because Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk felt like I was trying to use a Crayola Crayon as lipstick. The color looked pasty on this olive skin tone vieja.

I rarely buy clothes and shoes maybe every two years only when something wears out. I have a small great quality closet - like everything would fit in a six foot closet. I wear makeup about 9 different makeups. Target Cleansing oil and la roche posay cleanser. A $40 lipstick is acceptable for me if it’s perfect for me and lasts a year since I usually buy two Chanel at once in same color. One at home one in my purse

You can tap a bit on your lips and wear it as a stain or go bold. Reminds me of a lacquer but soft and doesn’t transfer much when it sets. Def worth the price. I think it comes in about 20 something shades. My favorite on you was the Lisa Eldridge red. Oh my! Beautiful on you!

I have a love/hate relationship with red lipstick. I want a great red, and I feel like I can’t find one that’s great in me. Part of that is probably because I’m not used to seeing myself with a bold lip-even though I adore lipstick. 😵💫. But - today I bought my first Pat McGrath Labs, and I got Elson. It’s a stretch for me to spend that on a lipstick. And O-M-G, it’s so fabulous. I’m hooked. It’s going to be my signature color. You’re right about the formula- feels like liquid powder. And the amount of pigment gives it staining staying power. At first I thought it was wearing off pretty fast, and worried it was drying me out. But, now that it’s been 6 hrs I realize the stain it leaves is good for hours, even after eating. A dose of balm combats the small bit of dryness, and the color is still great. Big Elson ❤️❤️❤️❤️.

This list is definitely legit. I have tried almost all of these recommendedations at Sephora and they all look fabulous. My favorites are the red Armani lipstick in 400 which I receive loads of compliments on when I wear it, and Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution lipsticks. The 90s shades are to die for. I think the best looking and most affordable on the list would be MAC Velvet Teddy.

I think Lancome Rouge l'Absolu #47 Rouge Rayonnant is a hidden classic. It's been in the collection forever, and it's a perfect, universal red for everybody. It's a bright red with a tiny hint of gold and I have yet to find a person that it does not look good on. I've been wearing it since I was a teenager, my mom wears it, her mother wears it...it's my substitute for the perfect little black dress - always on style and elevates any look. I do love that Versace 400, so gorgeous!

I'm more into orangish hues. There are 2 that I absolutely loved and are not made anymore: Honeyflower, by Mac and Baked Earth, by Laura Mercier. Do you know any similar colors? Also, there's a classic you did not mention: Dior
434- PROMENADE. Beige-pink that suits almost everyone.
Mac Lady Danger has an almost neon orange hue. Nars Audacious Lipstick in Lana has orange, and so does Revlon Fire and Ice. Hope that helps.
Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon - YES! It’s in a beautiful protective satin lipstick holder in my purse at all times! Half my friends wear it because I bought it for them and they, too, love it.
