Nice review, as I'm thinking of investing in a barbell power rack and plates for my home gym set up, but as you say less choices if you live in Europe as opposed to stateside. This helped, nice one mate! I was looking at Again Faster also but googling revealed some horror stories.
Thanks for the feedback, it's a great bar! I take it you picked up on my Again Faster folding squat rack? It's a pretty good rack for what I'm doing, I doubt it'll see more than 160kg on it with me doing squats so it should be fine, I think stronger folks will need a more solid rack?
@@thegaragehermit7227 No I haven't found it. I've got enough space to get a full sized rack with lat pulldown in the gym, so that's what I'll be ordering in due course + an ATX barbell.
I had both bars used in this video. I now have the atx power bar MK. It is the best of the three for powelifting. It even has enough spin for occasional weightlifting exercices like clean, snatch...
Very informative video just bought the same bar, to replace texas power bar both roughly same diameter 29mm texas, 28.5mm ram but not much difference in them the ram bar is good quality for the money aswell.
@@thegaragehermit7227 Legend. Cheers mate. I've been looking at the ATX version of the folding rack and this bar too. Ive got a TINY garage so would be great to know how much space you use when you train using the rack as the dimensions are pretty much the same with all these folding racks. Ive got 2 metres which is super tight!
OK, it needs 236.5 cm ceiling height when it's stowed against the wall, and that will be very close. It protrudes 82cm from the wall to the tip of the j hooks when folded out. Then with the flat bench in the right spot for... Benching.... It all comes out to 172cm from the wall. So you've got room at 2m but your toes will be right near, if not tapping the wall when your Benching if I've got it right and you're my height etc (6ft)
@@thegaragehermit7227 Wow mate thank you so much for checking. Every review i've seen on any rack is usually from America and they have garages the size of my house on average out there. Really helpful to have this sort of insight from UK based home gyms. I would recommend more vids on this as i'm sure I cant be the only one who'd watch. Thanks again buddy
Thanks for sharing. I was very unsure if I should buy the Ram bar and ultimately chose not to as I could not find any good videos like this one and I was afraid that the quality would be low. I now kind of regret not buying it. However: When you lifted the sleeve up on the cheap bar (6 min, 35 sec), there quite clearly was a gap or some play on the sleeves. I don't think you did this on the Ram bar. How is the play on the sleeves on the Ram bar? EDIT: Oh.. And one more thing. Is the knurl marks 81cm apart when measured on the inside edge? Thanks
Yes, there's a bit of play in the cheaper bar, yes. The ATX ram has very little if any play, my understanding bushing bars are not going to be uber smooth like a bearing bar but longer lasting. Ill measure up when I get in and let you know on the knurling
Sorry to keep asking all these questions, but I would love to know if the sleeves have grooves? Some barbells have these groves that are supposed to hold the plates better. They tend to be very difficult to see on video or pictures. Again, sorry to keep asking all these questions..
@@RRKristensen no problem, yes the sleeves are finished with a grooved surface, plates make a satisfying noise when you put them on. I'll do another video for you. Watch this space
Hi, I have just bought this bar. I have noticed upon inspection that the sleeves rotate for different lengths of time. Also one of them seems to make an click noise which you can feel in the bar. Did you have this issue? Thanks
Sorry old bean, I've only got this bar and the budget old strength shop bar I've shown for comparison. I did consider the bastard bar, let me know if you buy one!
@@thegaragehermit7227 The strengthshop bastard barbell is way inferior to the atx ram bar. The Sqmize bison barbells are at the same level as the atx barbell but for a better price.

@@thegaragehermit7227 yes its good like it, not lifting much know anyway but yes for the price its quality.

It's an Again Faster folding rack, it's canny like! I'll add it to the list of... 'to do's'

The sleeves don't click that's for sure, the spin is very similar on both sleeves as well. You might have a dud!
Can you use cotton straps on the ram bar and tighten them really well, or is the knurling too harsh for it?
I'm not sure on that as I'm not a strap user, I would think it will tear them up as it works through the spotter arm coating quick
@@thegaragehermit7227 Ok, thanks for the answer.
Do you own the strenghtshop bastard bar?, and if how does it compare to the ram bar?.
