He claims he doesn't know where the "A man and a boy can have a sxual relationship that has benefits" arguement came from but he knows damn well that's literally from Milo Yianopolous and Vaush's arguement is that Milo is correct there CAN be benefits BUT those benefits are outweighed by the negatives which is why Vaush was AGAINST Milo's pro-pdf stance. Another example that can be used, is that throwing rocks at people is wrong. But there is a chance if you throw a rock at a person, and that person ends up in the hospital, that the doctors then discover a brain tumour inside that person. They are able to treat it quickly, and the person gets like a 30 years longer life than he would have otherwise. This is another example of an action that is generally bad, but can hypothetically lead to a good outcome given extremely specific and unlikely circumstances.
Vaush then clarified that he still believed that both sex with children and throwing rocks at people should still be illegal and morally condemned, since they *almost* always have terrible outcomes.

I honestly really don't like keffals. I have never seen her talk about politics it's literally been over a year and all I've seen from her is just drama. The vaush leak is honestly a whole new perspective on his whole cp thing that's crazy. Sad to see tho cause while I never cared for this whole line of argumentation it was my introduction to the brainrot perspective of market socialism, having very little genuine insight on the details of it but just relentless advocacy for it. It made me wanna read Marx so I could really understand what he meant so I read the first part of Kapital and I kinda split off from him and his content became very irritating. So I watched everything. To put this all in context, I have disliked Vaush (from the left) for years. And I had even written on Destiny and Vaush and their malignant effect.
I also agree in general that loli is, by definition, a form of CP. even if I don’t find it to be as malignant as that which exploits humans.
With all of that said, I watched the Mr. Girl and Vaush debate and I have come to understand what your basic disagreement is and why Vaush feels decontextualized.
First, in a debate where the violence of commodities comes up Vaush makes a positive (in form) argument. “There is no moral and legal reason that consuming CP should be illegal”. What he meant was, ‘in my philosophical system, if you are not making profit from the process of production for a dangerous commodity or are going out and offending, who are you hurting?’ Which is specious, but he does change his tune.
When he is confronted about this argument he walks it back and transforms what he said. ‘I was trying to analogize CP with other violent commodities’. Which, is not what he said. But whether he explicitly meant it or not, that is why he was doubling down on a stupid argument. Whether he consumes loli or not, whether he is a pdfile or not, it is incidental to the argument.
However, from this point he is pretty consistent. He continues to ask, ‘why do people accept other commodities that kill children while rejecting this single commodity?’ Now this ignores what a commodity actually is. CP made by criminals is not a commodity in the sense that he means, I.e. it is produced as end of collective social demand that is mediated by corporations. But even so, this became his line.
Then, he has the debate with Mr. Girl. Now, this is where I diverge from Ethan’s interpretation of events. Mr. Girl is a troll and provocateur, and I think it is questionable taking anything he says seriously. He enjoys undermining debate lords and saying stupid things. He may be an idiot, but all of this springs from him finding the mob around the film “Cuties” absurd and then leaning in on the perception people forced on anyone who said they understood what Cuties was about.
Whether he is an actual pdfile or not, it is irrelevant. When they debate Vaush is pretty clear. He again walks back his statement, he says loli has some relation to an attraction to children, he says that society has done little to stop the predatory gaze of men, and he is unwilling to say what age men would want to naked (even if he assumes that it would be young).
So, this is where he feels mistreated. You are both using his words against him and taking words out of this debate to mean something different than what he is saying. I understand the impulse. But when he said, for instance, that in the alternate country that men would want to see 14-17 year olds, he also said “have no idea if it is anyone one of those. So that was not a range, but rather a set of points of which one can be true (and he is unwilling to say which). Also he says that after saying this is how people thought before modernity and that we have not taught much to push people away from that form of thinking. So, it is implied that if people have learned anything from modernity, it is to not be attracted to 14-17 year olds.
With this “context”, I think you all should attack this from a different angle. It is completely unimportant that he has contradicted himself, because who cares. It is impossible to know whether he really believed that CP was completely moral. And I think that has little to do with what this conversation is about. What you ask is (1) how can anyone believe, given your previous commentary and an example of loli, that you do not consume loli? (2) What do you think the difference is between loli and cp, beyond the fact that one exploits human beings and one does not? And given that we agree that there is a relation between loli and attraction to children, what is yours? Those are reasonable questions based upon the evidence.
Do better ethan we saw how u refused to acknowledge what vaush REALLY said.. they are in the same category in a broad sense but they are not the same thing and he never said they were…. You just straw manned his argument. I hate to do this but he was correct. They are both amoral actions and I don’t see how anyone would disagree with that. They are both slave labor and any products purchased under that system should be condemned. Just say you agree with that instead of acting in bad faith and trying to pretend that you have some kind of meta analysis that clears your name from appearing to act in bad faith..… and then repeating the same process with anyone who criticises you for it…

If one is worse than the other, find another issue to compare it with, because when you take something controversial and compare it with the most extreme example, it comes across as the downplaying of the extreme. For example he could have compared supposed wage theft in the US with supposed slave labour in other countries and said the fruits of that labour should be condemned equally, but it doesn't sound as edgy as going the CP route.

If we give Vaush the benefit of doubt that he was just trying to explain a moral argument about there’s no difference between the production of consumer goods and the production of CP and not a consumer of it. Then he’s still a hypocrite just by wearing clothes and using the computers and electronics he uses, and also living indoors because most likely the house or apartment or wherever he lives also used low wage, exploited workers.
He does not have the moral high ground just by pointing out that people are abused and exploited for basically everything in our lives. Until he runs off into the woods, making his own clothes out of leaves and twigs, and living off the land, then he has no moral ground to stand on.

That equivalent option does not exist in the other scenario at play.
This is a doozy to wrap my head around, but... I think at 10:00, what he meant by his very controversial, unfiltered, very badly worded statement was... theoretically, a sexual experience between an adult and a minor could be positive to both or negative. However, we deem it bad due to it being immoral, and yet we deem other things morally okay, even when they actually are 100% negative to a minor, such as child slavery where children are working at factories making up our iPhones.
While this is heartbreaking to say, there is some truth to that statement (if that was actually what he meant). But what's sad is why we can't separately deem both as wrong based on the odds something would be causing more harm than good or, in more instances than not, would be causing harm. We should be at a level in society to be able to look at the harm caused, and if the odds exceed a certain level, even if it's not 100% of the time, we should be stopping it.
This whole conversation is honestly quite messed up, and I hate it, but just because I hate it doesn't mean the conversation should not be had...

Also this point completely ignores the culpability of the adult in the situation. If an adult is willing to hold resources over the head of a child, so they can sexually exploit that child. To say that kind of relationship can have “positive outcomes” the outcome has to be undisputedly positive and that it cannot be achieved without the minor-adult relationship, which even in the example you share, is not demonstrated.

okay nah i'm with keffals on this one. vaush isn't saying CP should be legal, he's criticizing the moral inconsistency in it being legal and viewed as okay to consume products that were made through child slave labour while believing CP should be illegal. both exploit children, so neither should be tolerated. there's no "ONCE AND FOR ALL" debunking of anything in this stream, just a failure to understand the point being made.
Those things are both immoral and illegal. The FBI rescues child slaves and human trafficking victims AND they arrest adults with hard drives full of CP.

It also fails to take degree of harm into account. Spanking is bad and SA is bad and violent torture and murder are bad, but you get a longer sentence for the later ones because they cause more harm.

From what I’ve understood, or what his community has argued is that the full context explains that he’s arguing against it. That he used an extreme analogy to condemn all of it and promote a more ethical ideological system in which be believes. And that most of those clips of him were against actual pdfiles or Nazis he was debating. So most of those out of context clips that are clip chimped of him were created by Nazis or people trying to smear him during those debates. That’s why Twitter has spread those specific clips around and why you seem them in a lot of white supremacist forums ect.
Now saying that I don’t know how it makes the picture more justifiable in that sense. His defense seemed pretty flimsy but in terms of the clips I’ve seen. It does seem like there’s a lot more to the video than what Ethan is trying to say or won’t show.

An act utilitarian would judge each instance of pdf based on ultility. Children tend to lack money. Adults tend to have more money. Gifts can be used to coax them. Vaush is a rule utilitarian and is therefore against pdf on the rule of it.

There's no support for any part of Vaush's claim that such an event could benefit a child in any way. He is also completely dismissing the fact that consent or safety can't exist in those power dynamics. After watching Vaush's context video and analysing every clip I do admit the loli(?) part is very fishy, I'm not sure what to believe on that one. However I am also disappointed in h3 for just fully ignoring any context that really paints a different picture than what they're saying. “Knowingly” doesn’t mean the same in the law as it does colloquially. Using the term mens rea doesn’t make your argument better, it just means “state of mind.” The requisite mens rea for a crime could be negligence or recklessness.
In the case of the statute you cited, it’s knowingly. So, for example, you didn’t set out with the premeditated intention of doing something, but you became aware during the course of the actus reus (see I know legal terms too).

If someone looks at an image and downloads it onto their computer, mens rea is established, unless they were literally roofied by someone else and blacked out or someone was literally holding a gun to their head. But those would be defenses they would have to prove.
Knowing possession is exactly what it sounds like. It means it exempts malicious viruses or MAYBE hiddden folders on a shared computer, if the person can establish they genuinely didn’t know.

About the utilitarian argument, we've been doing this for all of history. Underage marriage still happens in the USA. Just imagine that a single one of those fundamentalist religious child brides wants to be married and ends up pretty well off. It's possible. But we should still not condone it. Maybe there's a lady down south that was married at 14 and was super happy, she's 45 now, still happily married, and still supports child marriage. It's possible for this to happen. As Vaush said, it's like 99% not a good utilitarian outcome anyway, and the child is taken advantage of and is not happy. Thus we do not condone on a utilitarian basis. That 45 year old lady, although she had a good experience, would be wrong.
