Although past their primes, Kollo and Jones can still be heard and watched with great respect in these roles they have inhabited for so long time. A tribute to their artistry.

Yeah but that's the usual thing of big opera houses hiring big names on their names only without paying any attention to what they can actually still offer.
From a purely artistic point of view hiring Kollo and Jones for these roles at that time in their career was just a huge mistake.

There's a lot I like about this production. The conductor and playing are excellent. Jones and Kollo past their prime, but very much worth hearing and seeing in these great roles. I'm still waiting for the dream performance of this masterpiece.

It was a bit late for both Jones and Kollo; neither sound completely steady. But they both bring years of artistry and deep knowledge of this drama.

8:37 the fact that she falls over at that particular moment seems to underline that bit of the music. Same with the loud bit in the prelude to verdi’s riggoletto, where most directors interpret it as a cry of despair, when it’s just notes on a page.

“Just notes on a page”. Wrong in so many different ways…! Why do you care about music if it’s just notes on a page? When you go to a performance are you just given the score and you go home? Is the sound important to you? Is how it makes you feel important to the experience of music? Can music express sadness, beauty, anguish, happiness etc etc?

Jones is so hard to understand. The vowels are so hard to distinguish, the consonants barely pronounced in many instances…

Régóta tart a vita, melyik a legnagyobb opera?
