Twenty years ago, I took two classes from a tracker who was a Selous Scout for the Rhodesian Army. At the time, he was also teaching the U.S. Border Patrol how to track people coming in illegally from Mexico. Probably retired now, but I learned some amazing skills.

There used to be some guy who taught Selous Scout style tracking (no dogs) in the Uwharrie mountains of NC. He was based out of the Fayetteville area. I talked to him once or twice. Don't know what happened to him and his outfit. I know he taught tracking to LEO, SF, Border Patrol, Marine Corps.

Here in Canada we had a show called mantracker when I was a kid. Basically two expert trackers on horseback , the host, and a local tracker to the area the were in would have two days to catch two other people who signed up thinking they could beat them. The people escaping got a few mile and few hour head start and had to get to the safe zone in two days about 30km away on foot in rough areas across the country. A lot of people tried, very few even some very well trained people actually would escape and almost nobody did he say he genuinely had trouble even finding. Everyone had one or two very close calls. But one time a team of snipers came on I think from America and they were watching the trackers more than the trackers saw them and made it to the safe zone comfortably. He had also caught many other well trained soldiers to, a good tracker is someone that you don’t want looking for you. Me and my friends/ family would spend hours in the woods playing our version of it as kids.

Tracking is definitely a lost art my dad was a Army Ranger and taught me I also had a Apache friend that had a still living grandpa that perfected my skills I have a high respect for tractors it's been a long time since I've had to do any tracking and I want to get back to the basics I guess it's one of those things you got to constantly do to keep up your skill set because I can't believe how much of it I forgot but you are great thank you

Working on an Army base, as a range inspector, I was amazed at how quickly my eyes were trained to look for oddities. Brass, links, debris. Anything out of place. Also, out in the training areas, spotting where solders were is incredibly easy. They always leave some kind of debris and tracks. Keep up the cool videos.

Would you agree with , Don’t underestimate common sense when tracking . If you’re tracking someone who’s lost hiking. You’re not going to be looking for evasive signs. If you’re tracking someone who’s panicked and rushing- use common sense to look ahead for what they might see as a goal . You’ll be surprised how well you do when you put yourselves in their mindset.
