Was struggling for hours trying to fix my prone anim! No luck with steam or reddit threads, then I FINALLY stumbled across this video. Incredibly helpful and I learned a lot for future use, thank you so much!!
I've honestly come back to see different parts of this video so many times now because there are so many helpful things you show! It can be hard to filter through most Unity tutorials to find something that's relevant so having this is really great. Thank you!!
Absolutely! I do my best to give an even balance of helpful things while doing them as quick as possible, I know not everyone has all the time in the world!
So while this is a really good tutorial, you really gotta slow down and assume that the person watching really doesn't know anything about Unity. You go so fast, and you click and do things without explaining. It really doesn't help.
this is honestly the most helpful tutorial i've ever seen! i've been trying to get into avatar tweaking/customization and this saved me hours (even days) of work that i'd try and figure out how to do on my own. love your videos
THIS WAS RREEALLY HELPFUL tysm and for me especially the last part Personally I created the pose in blender, exported it with the fbx to unity and separated the .anim to use it for other models If anyone needs step by step, I can explain further cuz I don't really want anyone to struggle like me the whole day
Thanks heaps man, i got it to work in just 15 minutes. Only thing is i had to set all 3 poses' tracking control to "tracking". the prone animation was messed up with it set to animation
Hey! I'm trying to add a custom prone animation to lay down, and it works, but there's a small problem with it that bugs me. In VR mode, the feet seem to be pushed a lot closer to my head than in the animation (pushing the knees up and closer too). In the video you setup the TrackingControl to give up everything to the animation to work around it, but is there any way I can set it up so I can still move my head and hands while keeping the feet farther away? Thank you! Edit: And yes I did try checking the head and hands to be under tracking instead of animation, but unless I give the head to the animation the feet are still messed up.
Is there a way to adjust the eye position on the prone animation? mine is around the chest area when it's supposed to be a bit higher than that so my character ends up breaking the animation due to it being so low
You should be able to modify the 'View Position' values of the avatar by editing your prone animation and creating a keyframe for those values where you'd like your new view position to be. It's at the very top of the 'VRC Avatar Descriptor (Script)' component.
I've been seeing one video after another that has "Playable layers" but can't seem to find it on the one that I am working on. Do some just not have it?
Hello hello! Great video! Extremely useful! I do have one question though. For half body VR, is there a way to set the height at which the sit and prone animation change? As far as I can tell, by following your video, the animations work as they should for normal height avatars but it doesn't work if the avatar is very short or very tall. In the case of a tall avatar, I have to physically sit on the floor to activate the crouch animation and I have to lay on my back to be in the prone/crawl one. I'd like to be sittin on my chair and the avatar to be sitting as well and when I'd sit on the floor, so would the avatar. Would it have something to do with the Y values at @1:44 ?
whenever I made the prone animation and imported it to vrchat i cant seem to move my arms for some reason? they are stuck in the position that is shown in the animation, its extremely frustrating and I have no clue how to fix it. Cant find anything online either. pls help
3:44 by some odd reason despite I've followed all your steps, the Preview and that record button are grayed out and can't be activated. What did we miss? I can't customize the sitting to actually be sitting on the ground 😟 So far the tutorial is very good but only that small detail is blocking me from completing it. I've unchecked all the boxes as said previously for that animation but still I can't edit it. Update: Pah, nevermind, I actually needed to click on the model in the Hierarchy of the scene for it to grant me to edit it. That's what happens when you missclick the scene and you still see the animation list grayed out. I believe it should not show the animations unless you select the model possessing them. Anyways, onwards to the end to the tutorial now! Very good man. Everything is clear to me now, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us 👍 Question: Is there any way we can add a custom pose for bones that aren't on that current animation? Or do I must create the animation from scratch and use it? Guess I must check more tutorials on that...
so I tried doing a cross sit animation as my prone animation and it was like 10 feet in the air lol, the animation is good but it's not where it should be which is supposed to be the floor edit: I figured it out, all good now. Although I would like to know how we can change the dance emote and such, a tutorial on that would be nice :)
is there a way to add locomotion like a custom walk animation to a generic rig character? its a human type but I made it generic cuz phys bones work in generic and its 20 times smoother while in humanoid rig it doesn't animate or move
This is a great tutorial.. but unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to copy and paste the items needed as you've stated in the first minute.. Unity isn't working well for me.
Hello, sorry to bother but I've rewatched this video and followed the steps at least.. 12 times trying to get this to work. The sitting animation you used doesn't activate at all and any prone animation I try just leaves me looking like what I can only describe as a turtle. It's driving me nuts and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I'm stuck on the part where you edit the positions. All of the options are greyed out, and I have no idea why. I've been following as closely as possible, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong or why I'm getting stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I have a feeling this method may be broken after the EAC update, as I have tried to follow every step of this tutorial 3 times now in the past few days, pausing the vid after each step and trying to watch everything he does, and every single time the result is that my uploaded avatar has completely broken locomotion and just T-poses all the time and cannot do anything else. What's worse is after this happens, even if I try to switch the avatar back to the default VRC locomotion controler in Unity and re-upload, its still broken and T-posing, and I'm forced to delete the avatar from VRC and start a new Unity project and re-import all my packages and re-upload as a new avatar just to get it work normally again.
whoa! That is odd! I will have to include these steps with a new video I am about to upload. EAC is a lot lower level than that and think there may be something not configured properly for your avatar's rig or animator controller maybe?
5:00 So do I only have to do Animation Control if I only play on PC and not quest? Cuz I don't think i need tracking control because i don't have a VR headset, right?
So I have successfully been able to create the animation that I like however I am running into two problems. One being that the VRC Avatar Descriptor doesn't follow the head and is instead stuck floating above the now seated avatar and two being that I cannot figure out how to make my avatar move in VR with these custom animations. It is just stuck how I modeled it. Any help with this would be absolutely amazing!
Have you made sure the newly edited blend tree you made is replaced in the locomotion animator and then it is added to the Base Layer slot in the Playable Layers? :)
So, when I build and test my avatar it does this thing were it will walk in place when I’m not moving and I don’t know how to fix it, I was wondering if you did?
I'm wondering if it may be an animator controller you have set in your main animator where you have the Avatar Descriptor. That should be left empty before uploading.
So when I tested out the sitting animation and edited it a bit in terms of leg positioning and such. Everytime I move my left leg is static and doesn't want to move properly while crouching and because of it...I look like im crouch walking with one leg with my left leg still up and static. How do I fix that kind of problem?
I have absolutely NO clue where you put the duplicated file in. I don't have that folder, also not a similar one with similar files in it already. I can't find that folder. Im stuck there. I don't really like that tutorial, cause it's kinda a duty here to know Unity already. I just started into it, so it's not very helpful for me.

That's correct! Those values determine the height in which the transition to the crouch/prone engage! :)
