    Great video, just FYI these ants are very territorial and will likely hunt down most if not all of the clean up crew in there with them.

      I imagined they would i may remove the dairy cows, so far the Harps are leaving them alone, i was hoping their size would keep them safe for a bit, need to add in some springtails and worms before i can rescue the dairy cows!

    This species will likely do better in a terrarium with soil that has a high clay content and a lot of plants like in the wild so they can dig their own nest. Harpegnathos have a complex nest design that’s very unlike this artificial nest. A natural environment will definitely make it a lot more interesting to observe and document the ants and even see how many of the behaviors a captive colony shows when they’re lacking a lot of their natural experience (Flooding, predators, etc.)

    The dwarf whites are fossorial too and so they are a more sub terranean species 😊 they will turn over and airate the sub too 😁 I'm so glad you are happy with the new colony man and thank you so much for the links man.

      Yeah i wanted them as i knew they had a good chance of hiding from the Venators! Being partially subterranean, your channel is so under rated! More people need to jump over and sub!! Nearly at 100!!

    Cool video! Congrats on ur new colony! Hope they do well for you! I really liked to hear about the ethical feeding, especially with this species, when people know they are hunters they assume they are capable of taking down anything, which isn't the case.
    Really want to see more updates in near future and once again good luck! Cheers! 🍻

    Amazing setup mate. #MossWars haha!! Good job on explaining live feeding also. Some people don’t realise that some ants need to actively hunt to stay healthy and claim their prize. It’s all about doing this the right way, good job.

      You would have to see the facebook post from the link in the description, moss takes years to grow, removing it from the wild can cause a big impact on the local eco system, they are so cool! Ive barely seen them since they went in, just a couple glimpses here and there! Thanks bud!

    Hi. What is the '10k' culture you mention will tackle the issue of mites?

    • @AntsTheColonialist
      @AntsTheColonialist  3 года назад

      Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Hypoaspis miles) they are a predatory mite that consumes the larvae and brood of phoretic mites, phoretic mites feed on the blood of insects, they can kill off a colony pretty quickly

    Would a natural setup like this be better than an artificial setup?

    • @AntsTheColonialist
      @AntsTheColonialist  3 месяца назад

      It depends on the nest Wakooshi does really good nests for Harps, but if its not possible to get a purpose built nest, i find they prefer a natural set up with a cocofibre and clay dirt mix (apologies for my slow reply)
