My favorite Dinobots of this collection are Snarl, Slag and Grimlock. Snarl transforms into a Stegosaurus Slag transforms into a Triceratops Grimlock, the leader of the group, transforms into a Tyrannosaurus Rex
My kid was just playing with my original Snarl on the kitchen table. Thats a testament to the quality of these toys. Ive had Snarl since new in the late 80's
Brother, you are not lying. I still have my original sound wave. That my brother had gave me the he had got when he was a kid. And that thing has stood the test of time. All it needs is a fresh coat of paint, but it's still in good condition. All the parts still move and transform. I mean, I think back, man, that's what they were really heavily. Putting research in development and to make a needs. Toys durable and last real collectors items today.
It annoys me that Slag can no longer be called Slag. Its ridiculous, because his name is ACTUALLY related to his character and not a random chosen name. For those unaware, Slag is the metal build up you get from welding two pieces of metal together that you have to knock away. Its molten metal waste.

this was the video that go me back into Transformers when I was 11 years old. I'm now 21 and still rewatch this video to relive that moment of stumbling upon this video and watching it repeatedly. I even started to collect older Transformers figures such as a G2 Grimlock who remains one of my favorite figures to this day despite him being broken
Slag still means what it always meant. 'A vitreous by product of smelting ore'. The fact that is has a colloquial meaning of 'a woman of promiscuity' here in England is overplayed WAAAAAY too much
The whole Slag/Slug rubbish is really petty and kinda childish in my opinion. He was originally called Slag, and he will always be Slag to me, and I will call him such. Slag mainly means a form of molten metal, which fits the Dinobot perfectly being he has a flame thrower in his mouth.
It's Hasbro's headless chicken reaction that gets the names changed. The only time in the last 15 years I've heard anyone say 'slag' was ironically... because no one says it any more in the UK.
I remember in school a kid brought a Grimlock to school once but wouldn't show it anyone. He kept it in a brown paper bag. I caught a glimpse of it and it looked so awesome to me. That shiny robot had me so jealous. When I finally had dinobots of my own, I realized they all transform all the same (except swoop) and Grimlock was always my favorite.
Did they ever combine into a bigger robot like the Constructicons into Devastator?? I could swear as a kid growing up and watching the cartoon they could combine... 🤔
@@UptownNYC nah. The dinobots never combined in G1. In later series they added a new female dinobot and THAT group could combine into Volcanicus, but that was in siege or combiner wars or something like that.
@@spike1422 Power of the Primes Dinobots could combine into Volcanicus, Slash (who is based on an Age of Extinction character) was not part of the combiner. The Dinobots also combined into The Beast in the comics.

Great review, Mitch! I ordered all five Dinobots yesterday! To be honest, these are one of the best Autobot subgroups, in my opinion. I never had the Dinobots as a kid, so I decided to buy them. I'll probably get another Dinobot set sometime during the year.
The engineering on the transformations is kind of impressive for the 80's. I was kind of expecting to see more kibble hanging off their backs than there ended up being.
i like how they made them look experimental with translucent parts and crime metal parts. the is a great nod t their origins. for those who don't know, wheeljack made the dinobots to fight the deceptions.
This video just convinced me to buy assume KO's! I collect the original G1 toys (I have close to 100 of them) and a couple of 80's KO's (including Megatron) but mostly, I just stayed away from them because the quality was crap. Thanks for posting this video. I enjoyed watching it.
Yeah there's a dude on ebay who has a ton of classic g1 re-releases from china somehow and I suspect that's where these are from. It's a shame there aren't any cheap ko's of headmasters and targetmasters because those guys are *expensive*
I remember owning Grimlock, Sludge and Snarl back in the day as a kid. Never had the chance to own Slag/Slug or Swoop, but sure if they were ever released in the UK where I live.
Very nice, thanks for this awesome review. My vintage dinobots are pretty beat up as well so I'm looking into getting these.. are they spot on with the originals or are there subtle differences? Thanks.
Great review man. I managed to get both Grimlock and Sludge from eBay years ago, good condition, nearly complete for 40 bucks. Really lucky with that one. FYI Sludge is an Apatosaurus, the name Brontosaurus doesn't exist anymore. Swoop is not a Dinosaur, it is a flying reptile called Pteranodon.
Hi Mitch from Australia, where did you pick this KO set up from, can't seem to findit on BBTS but happy to go to the site you got them from as the quality looks really good for a ko. Have the same problem as you that my originals are stuffed and what a better display piece
Its a shame, because back about 5 years ago, I started to buy these one by one and started with Grimlock. That was fine and still got him. Then I ordered Swoop because I always wanted and never had him. As soon as I got him out of the box, his beak broke off. So I sent him back and the dude was happy to replace him, but by the time the broken one was returned, he was out of stock and asked if I wanted something else but he had no other Dinobots. I was pissed and never followed up and lost $75 from the whole thing and never bothered to further the collection. Now that I see Grimlock by himself, I regret now not looking for the rest. Damn luck.
So awesome! U should show ur originals too! we won't care if they're beat up, just means u actually played with them as a kid, I had and still have the same triceratops in green and the same t-rex in blue, mine are beat up too cuz I played with them alot as a kid!
Awesome review. Yeah, originals are the best. But if I'm going to spend a lot of money on something that's 30 years old I'd like it to be in decent condition. Love me some KOs! Again awesome review. My kids and I watch you all the time.
Since you said there KOs, what is the quality like? Would you recommend them?, I ask because I want some G1 dinobots but the real deal is way out of my price range :(
I still have my originals. They are displayed on my entertainment center. The Dinobots are what got me in to the Transformers when I was a kid. Knockoffs or not, those guys look so good new. Always wished they were about 50% larger, and had a combiner mode. That would have been sweet.
Would love to get a set of these! I found this set on eBay once, but they were super spendy, especially for knockoffs. I have heard they're pretty good quality though.
The Dinobots might be my favorite G1 toys. They look great in both modes (well, Slag suffers from kibble and overly huge feet in robot mode, but I'll let that slide), have great weapons, and look great as a team too. The uniformity is awesome. Also, they are robot dinosaurs. Come on! Another major plus is that they are some (Swoop's coloring being an exception) of the most show accurate toys from G1, which is rarer than you'd expect (look at Megatron with the trigger crotch, the grey Galvatron, the 84 mini-bots, and the infamous headless Ironhide and Ratchet). My Grimlock looked almost exactly like the cartoon, which only added to the appeal.
It's weird how decepticons have like a billion types if them while auto bots are mostly made cars.any the dino bots are the only thing different (not including beast wars)
Swoop was actually my favorite. He's the only Dinobot I had as just a Dinobot and not a part of another line. I did get Grimlock as a Classic Pretender. By that time that was the only way I could get Grimlock. Had they had him in my area I'd have probably gotten Snarl as an Action Master as that would have been the only way I could have gotten him. gutz1981 Slug works well. That means the same thing as Slag
gutz1981 yup. Molten metal waste. Sjw's ruining our day to day terms!
I think Slug accompanies his personality well, seeing as how he’s usually portrayed as a dim witted brute.
slag is a other word for tramp

I use to love dinosaur Triceratops, so had to have Slag for Christmas..86/7, I was 11-12!
Fondly remembering the days when the Dinobots were actually DINOSAURS.

They changed the name because it means slut in England
XD
When you called them a cheerleading squad I had a horrible image of the dinobots cheerleading
😂😂
Excellent review. These are a must have for any tf collection.
sportswolf3 aren't you him? You sound like him
1:37 when you did not watch the first dinobot episode
mitchsantona, can the Dino bots combine?
No
Great Dinobot video, thanks! Snarl was the one I had of the Dinobots as a kid. The skull kept splitting apart after too many transformations.
Hey,
What's the name of the tune at the beginning of the video? I love that tune!
The entertainer
I love Grimlock
My Dinobot favorite
Dinobots were a favorite. Awesome review!
Isn't swoop suppose to have a blue chest?
The blue chest was on the diaclone version and was kept in the cartoon for some reason
And the toys were made before the cartoon
Yeah he is

Those are some pretty good KOs. It's great to see the Dinobots again.
I seem to recall that for some weird reason Swoop was almost impossible to get here in the UK in the 80s.
Could not find them on sale based on the bbts link you posted in description
I had an grimlock replica like this. It was a Great Toy! It had black sword and also a spring projectile gun
When toys were made the way toys should be made
my favorite since g1 has been swoop I have always love pteranadons
Yes the throwback is here finally making a comeback and a mighty fine one at that
I still have my blue Grimlock, so many good memories.
Great review Mitch. Slag changed his name to Slug in the IDW comic series. I find the G1 Dinobots have stood the test of time. They look great!

I would really like a re rerelease of G1 transformers
They are one of the good looking groups of G1 figures.
yes they are
hey mitch are you getting the thirdparty foc swoop, its looking gooood

Slag is the leftover metal from welding or cutting, I think.
so I take it these are KO's because they weren't re released by Hasbro or Takara?

where did you get your dinobots from?
I had Dinobot Swoop as a kid. The only large robot toy that my dad ever bought me. So awesome
These look like great retro pieces.......when I was a kid I had slag and it was awesome, so it is good to see all together.
That's an awesome collection, especially with the original boxes. I'd love to see all of the FOC Dinobots in figure form
You and me both. I understand that Planet X is making a Swoop from FoC.
That's awesome! Any idea on class size and retail?

How do the knockoffs compare to the original?
My brother and I just got this set. So hyped for them to come in
