Good catch on the crank seals. Two strokes require fresh crank seals. A leak down test is the best way to assess the health of your seals before tearing into the engine. Nice find!
I bought one of these new way back in 1975, ran it in carefully and enjoyed it for a few years until I outgrew it literally. I had a huge growth spurt in those few years and it was so small for me when I traded it in on a Honda CB500F.. Awesome little bike for the shorter rider.
Bike was made the year I was born.Almost 51 years old, while looking brand new, and running like its brand new. The bubble gum blue paintjob with the graphics looks amazing. I love that it has an electric starter and kickstarter. I thought they only came with a kick starter. This bike has very rare and unheard of low mileage. I had no clue that Yamaha made RD 125's and RD 200's. Enjoy your day at work. Be safe. ML&R.
I had one of these aged 14 as an illegal young lad in Britain, just great! I weighed nothing myself, that thing went like crazy. Good times. 💯 Could annoy far bigger 4 strokes with this bike back in the day.
Just left a similar comment 5 mins ago! I was 14, weighed probably 120lbs, if that, even when fully clothed, wet, and needing a shit! That bike went like a rocket. Good times.
The RD250 is fairly rare, I see way more of these little 200s! Most people went ahead and bought the 350 instead of 250, so they are like hen's teeth. As a matter of fact, when I had my CS5 200, my dad got a RD250 but within a week traded it for a RD350 instead. Which is not surprising. If you find an RD250, you should also buy a lottery ticket. You won't find them.
I had a '72 but it was not called the RD200, it was a CS5. I think the '73 was called that too. I think they changed the name to RD200 in '74 to capitalize on the popularity of the RD350 and to a lesser degree, the RD250. The '72 like I had a different stripe pattern, mine was purple and white. It oiled-fouled the sparks plugs all the time. And you could not seem to revive them once oiled. Had to buy new ones. Nickel and dimed us to death.
That’s so cool was my first motorcycle back in 75 I think I paid about 200 dollars for it guy bought it for his kid and was afraid of it because it was so fast
Those are virtually identical to the Yamaha RX 100 and 115 my dad had , RIP. Those bikes are BEAST with porting, tuning, and upgraded exhaust. My dads RX could do 100mph, did 85mph up hills, did 0 to 60mph in just over 4 seconds, and best part was there is so much power the bike power wheelies as you change gears from 1st to 2nd, and even to 3rd gear. You could backflip it just by revving it in 1st gear. You can get 135ccm 175cc, and 200cc block kits for the RX too, which can do 11 sec quarter mile at 115mph.
@@Billium4635 i didnt do a quarter mile run myself, but these bikes do indeed frequent 12 sec runs at 115 mph with even sub 135cc engines, they drag race them in other countries such as in South America big time and race them against super bikes in 600cc class. However i did do 100mph on my dad's 100cc and i did a clocked and timed 0 to 60 in 4.5 sec. That is done using only 3 of 5 gears and could easily do the final 100mph max in another 7 sec or so. You gotta ride one to know.
@@enochthewitness719 I know this is wrong because I own and ride multiple yamaha 2 stroke bikes that are 3 times the displacement. You are trying to tell me that a cheap bike meant for the third world is faster than an rz350? Fat chance.
@@Billium4635 there are Columbian drag racing youtube channels of drag strip racing RX 100 to RX 200 and they have a whole class which do 12 sec at 115mph and race against 600cc even. U probably don't know about kawasaki KR 150cc which do 140mph and can do 9.5 sec quarter miles. They do 115mph in the eighth mile at 6.2 sec. Hundreds of videos on yt. Whether u own a bigger 2 stroke doesnt change reality of this.
A family friend had this exact bike. He was wise enough to never let me ride it.

Nice find!
I got my licence on a 1972 Yamaha CS 200cc motorcycle back in 1973. Wish I still owned it. Nice little bike.
Cheers NZ.
Loved how they called it electric.
Just saw one on our local Craigslist and it clearly says on the left side cover Electric.
I'm assuming it was to denote an electric starter. Might be an upgrade over a previous year or cheaper models.

These smaller 2-stroke twins are a sweet spot. This one specifically has some snap and is tuned correctly.
Holy 2 stroke Tuesday on Thursday!!!

I had 2 of those back in the summer of 85, had one for parts and one ran, no doubt if it is a fast little bike.
I rode a Yammie 100 cc Twin back in the 1970s and it was impressive.
I knew a guy in the 80's that had an RD250 and it was faster than my Honda XL125. I've never been disappointed in any of the RD models performances.
God bless the 2 stroke! Reminds me of my little Suzuki GT185 twin the way it started, just breath on that starter button and she's runnin😄
Definitely won’t see one like it as nice as this one! Looks and sounds like new!
You look like a damn Viking with those wrist wrap things and all jacked👍🏻
I had a Rd200 in the early 80s. Ran the wheels off it. Including 500 mile round trip rides to Ohio. I was 145 lbs then LOL

That's a beautiful bike.
Great little around town bike
I have one but orange 🎉

Here's to John Cermack who won many of the races that he entered on 200 twin in AFM racing
🐝🏁 Ken my buddy had two 350 and a 400, He let me ride them all time so fun to ride fast bikes✌️
Such a good looking bike!
I had a purple one. It had a burnt up clutch. I traded it to my uncle for a keg of beer in 1999.
My first streetbike 1974 rd200
