Wow brings back memories, I used to own an original RD350, in blue. What a bike. Unforgiving power. It was like living on the edge every time I opened up the throttle. Even with 2 people on.
Excellent and authentic 👌 modifications of swing arm, breaking system and significantly the increase span length between the two wheel which definitely increases the stability and handling during high dynamic velocity . the modifications regarding engine are fantastic 👏 I am also having Rd350 1985 model Excellent machine ...
From the first moment I heard the machine roar, I knew it was a two-stroke engine. Its sound is hoarse but as if it were something that arose from a metal wall that covers a deep well. I always liked two-stroke bikes, I had 2 that despite the small engine were very powerful, It is very good that they can still be used on public roads. The work done is formidable. Simple and subtle, yet powerful and elegant. In any project they will always be winning combinations.
I’ve owned two of these, one dedicated drag bike and one modified daily driver, when you show the clutch you are actually showing the flywheel ignition setup and these bikes were never known as the widow maker, that was the Kawasaki 750
Lost my younger bro, Gavin, 1984, racing with me on a public street, without helmets. I had red he had silver, ......back of his head was caved in, died in 18 hrs ICU. ..... telephone ditch. ...
@@hudsonstraight8628 so sorry to hear that man, that's such a tragic loss..... That's the reason I never ride without a helmet or let anybody around me ride without one, it's the only protection you have and it's not very much to start with, people will run over motorcycles and pull out in front of them in New York second, my son rides and he had a buddy that got killed the other day, a 70-year-old woman that pulled out in front of him, never had a chance....
Correct on all counts, was hoping someone pointed that out. Although it seems nowadays that any of the old 2 stroke road bikes gets called a widow maker now.
Owned many 350s from 350A and 250s.When the power comes in at 4 thousand and 6thousand,give or take, it is like a turbo.Thats why I drive a Turbo Car.The exhaust cackle too, that's something you don't forget, from a set of chambers.I like your finished product, very much.
Thank you for this presentation of the RD350. This is certainly a beautiful build of very high quality. I enjoyed the 2-stroke sound, and sitting here watching, I could smell the mix in the air. And, as always, thank you for Racer TV, the Café racers only choice! Hope you are getting in some riding time. Take care of yourself my friend.
You are welcome my friend. My pleasure. Your perspective about the smell is very interesting. I already found similar comments about the 2 stroke motorcycles smell. It seems our brains add automatically the burnt oil smell to this sound, bringing also some nice memories from our youth. Technically, the burnt oil smell should be bad. But for me, it is a good smell, almost like a perfume. Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. You too. :) Cheers.
@@RACER_TV I sometimes go out for a ride with a group which call themselves The Rotterdam Rollout, a great bunch of lads but they dont like being behind my smelly twostroke. I usually change the premix ratio from 28:1 to 40:1 to keep the smoke levels and eye iritations down.
@Toby Jugs Yes, after a while, it can be annoying to ride with a 2 stroke motorcycle in our front. But that may happen because of a bad oil/fuel mixture, or even a bad quality oil. When I was 16 years old, I rode thousands of Km with 2 stroke motorcycles, and I never felt annoyed with the smoke smell. But Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.
Yep, for sure- my pants still get wet when I think of the '83 I had and stupidly let go _twice_, although my recently-acquired Super Duke 990 is helping me get over the RZ :)

Fantastic video thankyou. This bike really does sum up the true meaning of a cafe racer for me. Striped to the bare minimum and made to go faster. I'm currently building my own version of a 2 stroke racer and recognise some very high class components on this RD. Top job.
In my country Indonesia, is now very hype about 2 stroke motorcycle, mostly 110-150cc from early 70s to late 2000s, but this particular build is very very special thank you for sharing my friend

Bought the RD125. An RD 200 was found at the Orange county dump. Swapped the engines after the 200 was abandoned in the hovercraft project. A diesel soak and piston replacement was the only real repair. Without the muffler the sound is deafening. But the real godsend was in the handlebars. I did an intersection human cannonball, riding the stuffed backpack, heading over the handlebars with a 5 year hip joint memory.

I was looking for a rd350 video in your channel if you already made one the other day, and you posted one today. Glad you found and shared another masterpiece for us!
First of all, thank you SO MUCH for this video and all the others you've uploaded! I've been a subscriber for a few years and watch every one of your videos. I used to ride a Yamaha RD400 in the early eighties and really loved that bike! Only mods were DG expansion chambers and a K & N air filter and that was plenty, that bike screamed! But this RD350 is a stunner, such a great looking/sounding Café racer. Some favorite modifications are the cylinder head, triple trees, swingarm and breaks, just awesome! Thanks again for the up, keep up the great work!
I am a, "two-strokeaholic!!" I grew up breathing pre-mix before 'YZs'. Had two R-5s, three RDs, and two 'RZs'!! The last of the past, an RZ-350 NC,(new Californian) we did everything to it. My mechanic's father, set times at Baylands Raceway on a Suzuki H-6 Hustler!! (secret porting!) But the man to beat was, Tommy Blackwell. Put a RD 400 engine in a YZ-465, "Desert Sled!!" Put another one, in a old "TZ-250!" chassis!! That sound of a two stroke twin, on the pipe, awesome!! Especially one ported, Lectron's, Bassini's ( Southern California made ) My RZ-350 bone stock, did s honest 115, made 40 HP. And only weighed 328;Lbs. Back then, only Eric Buell carried 'Dymags', got my full floating cast iron rotors from him too. Ah those were the days!! ✌️😎👍
You should see the gammas, rz's, tzr's, kawi triples, honda nsr400's, etc. In Canada. They are AWESOME. We just hide them and bring em out on cool mornings and cool evenings and lay a plume of blue mman.
Man these are the rides that some of my older homeboys would build when I was a teenager in the 80s they would work on their bikes all the time. To me personally I think RD’s are the cleanest bikes ever made , there ain’t nothing like the sound of a beautiful cherry ass 2stroke Yamaha RD!!🤘🏻👨🏼🦲👌🏼👍🏼
Yes, You are the secound person noticing it. Unfortunately, I didn't have any photo about the clutch. To be honest, that is just a visual detail that most people won't notice. Cheers.
You drove past me by Gunerius in Oslo. I was waiting on lights with my dad. Both on motorcycles.. And told him that was my dream bike... I was on a wrapped Honda Nsr125 and my dad was on a Duke390.
My 3rd bike loved these things and ended up in a wheelchair chair for 6 months and some rehab. I won't do that again 😁 still riding 38yrs on. And I still like nippy 2 stroke twins but there isn't any so I've got a little duke 390 which does remind me of the RD. Weird because it's a thumper but through voodoo and modern tech it still reminds of my RD 400 I had 2 RD 350's a Suzuki GT250 And came a tank slapping cropper on an RD400🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘
I still have original microfiche parts demo. Original magazine articles and many service manuals. Original ignitions with keys, o kilometer instruments fairings, sticker kits. Even "toomey pipes" and "factory" pipes from the 80's. Fun projects and cool results! Great show!
From Canada....built up 14 of the 1985to 1989 versions. Still have 2 ready to go. Bought an r3 just for comparison fun. 3 engines and all original parts packed away in my shop. Part of my life. Powerband for days with a y boot k n n and boysen dual stage reed cages. 2 times oversize seems to be the perfect 16:1 ratio. Damper and fork braces are recommended...😁😁😁 Wee Hoo!
Definitely one of my favorites in a long time. After college l moved to Atlanta, GA. After landing a job l decided to see if l could get a loan to buy a Yamaha RD 250 for daily transportation. Thankfully it was too soon for the banks to take a chance on a recent graduate. I ended up settling for a Bultaco Lobito and a 1962 Chevy Van to haul and store it in. What a tough little motorcycle that Bultaco was. We put each other through a fast learning process and survived each other.
Finally! Someone who knows how to employ the powerband instead of timidly shifting just as it gets on pipe. As the proud racer of three RZ350s well and truly killed by overuse in the 80's, I applaud your moxy, sir.
I absolutely love 2 stroke bikes. The sound makes me smile from ear to ear. Beautiful build.

I really don't like the noise a two stroke makes but when you open the throttle... you better be ready. Yeeharr..!!

RD 400 did not have the best handling and those original blocky tread tyres were a bit crap. mine went bang on the Holes bay dual carriageway lol

I was looking for a rd350 video in your channel if you already made one the other day, and you posted one today. Glad you found and shared another masterpiece for us!
Thank you. I'm glad you found your favorite bike. :) Cheers.
That distinct aroma of 2 stroke smoke always reminds me of the 80's. When every other bike on the road in the UK, was a screaming Yam. RD 350 LC.
Thank you my friend for your kind comment. I appreciate your support. :) Cheers.
The fzr 600 rear end fits great with machined bushings. Calipers and all relatively easy to swap.
Nice work.
Nice to see a cafe version of the RD. I used to ride my RD during winter, and a
very hard wind could push the whole bike sideways on black ice roads.
Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.
I am a, "two-strokeaholic!!"
I grew up breathing pre-mix before 'YZs'.
Put a RD 400 engine in a YZ-465, "Desert Sled!!"
Put another one, in a old "TZ-250!" chassis!!
That sound of a two stroke twin, on the pipe, awesome!!
Especially one ported, Lectron's, Bassini's
( Southern California made )
My RZ-350 bone stock, did s honest 115, made 40 HP. And only weighed 328;Lbs.
Back then, only Eric Buell carried 'Dymags', got my full floating cast iron rotors from him too. Ah those were the days!! ✌️😎👍
Thank you my friend for sharing your experiances. :) Cheers.
This is my dream bike! Love the colours especially.
I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.
Amazing . Love my rd 350
Spot on simple and stunning wish it was mine!
Magnif project café racer Yamaha RD 350! Like my friends!!!👍🇧🇷 2 Strokes forever! 🏍️
Thank you. I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.
At last legend Rd 350 is here very good sound nicely build great job, thanks
Thank you. I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.
Really impressive Bruno congratulations 👏
A really nimble, fast, agile like a gazelle!
Other than the magneto being mislabelled as the clutch. Excellent video and build . Love it.
Yes, You are the secound person noticing it. Unfortunately, I didn't have any photo about the clutch. To be honest, that is just a visual detail that most people won't notice. Cheers.
@@RACER_TV fair enough
Very different this time, one of the best👍
Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. :) Cheers.
Clean, minimalist yet powerful
That machine is a beautiful Rajdoot
Growing up a friends brother had one. Incredibly fast bike.
You drove past me by Gunerius in Oslo. I was waiting on lights with my dad. Both on motorcycles.. And told him that was my dream bike... I was on a wrapped Honda Nsr125 and my dad was on a Duke390.
Loooooool. Como Eu o Compreendo.... Um abraço.
Thank you very much for your cool picture.
RD350 best.
You are welcome my friend. My pleasure. Cheers.
Smiling from ear to ear... That's all I can impressed on.. 😊✌️❤️
Beautiful job ....
What more could we want? More two stroke builds please:)
My 3rd bike loved these things and ended up in a wheelchair chair for 6 months and some rehab. I won't do that again 😁 still riding 38yrs on.
And I still like nippy 2 stroke twins but there isn't any so I've got a little duke 390 which does remind me of the RD. Weird because it's a thumper but through voodoo and modern tech it still reminds of my RD 400
I had 2 RD 350's a Suzuki GT250
And came a tank slapping cropper on an RD400🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘
I still have original microfiche parts demo. Original magazine articles and many service manuals. Original ignitions with keys, o kilometer instruments fairings, sticker kits. Even "toomey pipes" and "factory" pipes from the 80's. Fun projects and cool results! Great show!
This was my first bike. Loved that thing.
just one word: amazing
From Canada....built up 14 of the 1985to 1989 versions. Still have 2 ready to go. Bought an r3 just for comparison fun. 3 engines and all original parts packed away in my shop. Part of my life. Powerband for days with a y boot k n n and boysen dual stage reed cages. 2 times oversize seems to be the perfect 16:1 ratio. Damper and fork braces are recommended...😁😁😁
Wee Hoo!
A proper cafe racer!
I owned an Rz 350. Dead reliable, comfortable and went like a rocket. Best bike I ever had. Would swap my Harley 1250 for another Rz in a heartbeat.
Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.
Beautiful motorcycle, beautiful video. Thank you my friend. Sincerely, El Solitario.
I love my RD, ride it almost every day.
We put each other through a fast learning process and survived each other.
beautiful cafe racer
The RD350 was never known as the widow maker. 500 kawasaki triple was. But an awesome bike.
Here in Brazil RD 350 was known as "Black Widow"... I have one.
