    I like your videos !, I have the helios 16 with the same CPU but a 4070, turbo mod fans are absolutly untolerable, I was wondering if the lenovo legion pro 7i fan at max speed is also noisy like this ?? or is it way better and tolerable ? especially after undervolting (which is locked for acer). I could get the legion similar to my acer for about 400 dollar more, dont know if its worth it.
    Thanks in advance

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад +1

      They are equally as noisy with the exception of a few decibels higher or lower. I would say that the overall pitch of the Lenovo fans is a bit more tolerable then the Acer.

      thanks, so the vapor chamber doesn't make it much less noisier then :(, I use my acer in performance mod though the noise is ok, just the turbo mod is insane, sounds like a jet engine 😄

    I can't afford a 4090 laptop. 4080 ones already start upward of 3300USD in India.
    It would be nice if you could compare the Helios 16 and Zephyrus M16 .
    What I was trying to know is can't lower GPUs give 60+ fps 2k(non native,upscaled) ultra with frame generation enabled?😅

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад +1

      Yes you very much can achieve this but you will have to either tweak some settings for 2k at 60fps+ even with an RTX 4070 or 4060. I would not recommend a lower class GPU. Or if you can live with 1080p then I’ve demonstrated that you can gey near 60fps lock with most games using DLSS and Frame Generation even on an RTX 4050. I understand your position. But this year there is a much bigger gap between the 4050, 4060, 4070 vs 4080 and 4090 than ever before. And if you combine the power levels are so varied it just adds to the confusion.
      I do not have an M16 just yet. If I am able to get one then I will surely review and compare.

    I am considering to get the Helios 18 with mini led, rtx4080, i9, 2TB ssd, 32gb ram (if it ever comes out..) for around 3700€ here in Germany but I‘m not sure if maybe the rog g18 or the Alienware m18 would be a better choice as they cost nearly the same here with the same specs but without mini led..
    Main usage is 60% 4k gaming @ external projector with max. 60fps and 40% gaming in 1600p on the internal screen in bright environments. Mostly latest games that are hdr capable with max settings + RT and all dssl/fg.
    Any suggestions on which device to pick?
    Thanks a lot for any ideas and opinions from anyone :)

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад +1

      Oh in that case why not just grab the m18 r1 if the pricing is very similar. There's no timing on the release of the Predator Helios 18 in Canada or the USA as far as I can find. Also, the Helios 18 doesn't have a vapor chamber. I think that's a missed opportunity to keep the thermals and more importantly, the fan noise in check. The vapor chambers on the m18 r1 and the Strix G18 made it very possible to game without fan noise tearing your ear drums. I thought that was a very nice quality of life feature. And the 18" displays are all around superb. Of course, not HDR, so if that's a big want, might be worth the wait for mini-LED.

    • @rainerzufall3635
      @rainerzufall3635 Год назад +4

      @@techknowlux thanks for your reply! The only thing that prevents me from getting the m18 (apart from not being mini led) is the bad brightness of the display which is something around 300nits and not being hdr capable and I do require at least a bit more brightness because I will be in bright environments sometimes.. You are right about the cooling which bothers me with the Helios as well. My hope is that it’s not as bad with the 18“ model as it is with the 16“ you tested. All alternatives seem to have some downsides as well unfortunately like the gt77 and blade 18 being too expensive, the rog g18 having coil whine.. did I miss any other device you might recommend?
      Thanks!

    hey man, i have this exact model laptop. I was getting awful thermals as well so i repasted it with PTM7950. i should also note that the gpu and cpu had pea sized blank spots on the dye so that is probobly why the thermals are so bad. before the ptm7950 i would get hotspots of 110C now the Hotspot doesnt go above 95C and performs just as well as any other 4080 laptop.

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  23 дня назад

      @exdee4798 Nicely done. But when you're paying so much money for such a laptop, you would think that Acer can spend a few dollars extra and tune their quality control so that CPU/GPU are pasted properly with highest quality (costs few $ more) materials from the factory!

    • @techknowlux

      It is not a mechanical keyboard. It's a regular membrane keyboard but has decent tactility. The typing feel is decent, you'll adjust in a few days due to the shifted-left keyboard to accommodate the numpad. The screen latency is not an issue at 240Hz.

    Just got the 18 inch mini led variant yesterday and it's great so far 🤩did some casual gaming in Forza Horizon 5/Hogwarts/Diablo 4 (Server Slam) all in max settings + dlss + fg and all felt quite smooth with around 80fps and temps below 90°C (fans in balanced mode) but did not play for longer than 30mins.. Built quality feels really good as well. Speakers are not bad BUT unfortunately the chassis resonates and rattles when turning volume to more than ~30% (which is quite silent)
    anything I could/should test?

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад

      Ohhhh that sounds pretty cool. How is the Mini-LED display? Have you cranked brightness, checked at very low levels like 20% or 30% backlight? Turn on HDR mode in Windows and then in some games to see if there is a jump in visual fidelity. It’s the whole reason to get Mini-LED where OLED isn’t an option.

    • @rainerzufall3635
      @rainerzufall3635 Год назад

      @@techknowlux I love it! All brightness levels looked good to me although in games with HDR mode I was not able to decrease the brightness from the max. level (not sure if that’s normal?). With HDR turned on the display really gets twice as bright as without. I was even able to play Diablo4 (very dark scenery) outside under direct sunlight without any issues on the weekend. Colours and contrast are just amazing. Cyberpunk looked a bit too colourful/oversaturated for my taste but maybe some fine tuning changes that (ingame HDR calibration didn’t change a lot). Though I have to say that I do not have another similar display which I could compare this to. The ones I got are older and look greyish and not as bright compared to the mini led. Unfortunately I do not have my Mac Book Pro anymore but I have the feeling that the Helios display is significantly better although I wish the Helios would have more dimming zones. I could notice a bit blooming when running some test videos but apart from these tests I did not notice it at all.

    I have the Legion Pro 7i RTX4080. The Mini LED option on rhe Acer seems appealing but rhe Lenovo has a higher TDP at 175w, quieter fans, and a vapour cooling chamber. I did make up for that by buying an open box Samsung Neo G7 32" Mini LED monitor. Your review on the Helios is very accurate and knowledgeable.

      Thank you so much. I'm waiting to get the MiniLED model Acer for review. While 175W does sound good, it's not always about wattages only when it comes to performance. A locked 60fps on a Mini-LED with true HDR would be superior depending on the types of games one plays.

    Sir I want a laptop that can run games at QHD+ ultra settings(RT and all) at 60fps+ on all current and upcoming titles(next 5years) with the aid of all bells and whistles of new GPUs like DLSS and Frame Gen enabled (not just raw performance, I don't wanna worry about hard stats/specs)
    I am confused wheather I should spend up to an rtx 4080 or should conserve and go for a 4070 one? the 4070 has been bashed a lot for its minimal ains over last gen and huge gap with 4080 but if it can serve my simple purpose then I won't care if it is flagship performer that replaces a desktop or whatever. I just don't wanna regret the decision either way (performance or price) as these machines have significant prices and I want it to last long with the possiblity that it would easily run any future game at the preffered settings I mentioned before (not less or more than that)
    for 4080 config I had the Acer Predator Helios 16 or Rog Zephyrus m16 in mind (please compare between them as they differ in TGP, CPU etc.)
    or for 4070 the HP Omen transcend 16 or the 4070 helios 16.
    A 16" mini-Led screen with portability and affordability is a priority for me.
    Your support and advice would be much appreciated 🙏🏻

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад

      I think for what you’re looking for you need an RTX 4090 and in 16” with vapor chamber is a must and full max TGP of 175W of the GPU. That combined with DLSS+Frame Gen should be able to get you 60fps+ on Ultra for a while. As for 5 years, no one can predict the future. I think 2-3, maybe 4 years would be a more realistic time for ownership before you have to upgrade again. Esepcially at QHD+ resolution.

Considering that Dell is one of Intel's premier partners and they collaborate very closely on new and innovative laptop designs that would not add up. Please check the site again carefully and see that there is a toggle at the top of the configurator page when you select a laptop to spec it out with CPU, RAM, etc to select Intel or AMD models. If you're buying from a retailer and they're only carrying one or the other CPU spec, that I can understand. Hope this helps.

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад

      Hold off and check it out if you have the ability to return it. I might have gotten a bad unit with bad paste job/thermal interface material to take the heat away from the cpu/gpu to the heat pipes and exhaust it via the fans and heat sinks. Your unit might be just fine.

      Yes, the Mini-LED model has a G-sync display in the Helios 16. It's also stated explicitly in the Tech Specs. It now looks to be available for purchase in Canada. I do not see this option and only the 240Hz LED displays are available on the Helios 16 in the USA at this time.

    I really love the looks of this laptop. I was seriously considering strix g16 4080 as it is well cooled and silent gaming experience but i didn't like the looks of it and size. too gamery for me. I want something i can work majority of time and play games casually. I'm just worried about the fan noise of this. Is it way too loud on normal gaming conditions and normal desktop office usage? that would be a big deal breaker. If the fan noise hits only if you are pushing it to the limits and you can get 90% of performance in performance mode without the fan noise, I would be really interested to buy this. Anyway, thanks for the great review.

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад

      Glad you enjoyed my review. This was one of the louder laptops thus far. But if you don't mind gaming locked to 60fps with DLSS+Frame Generation it is possible to get it much quieter. That won't help though with the obvious gamery aesthetic. Lol.

    I had an Acer nitro 5 and I'm able to connect it to my AirPods (even though sometimes it may cause an audio issue). What's the issue with the wireless headphone connection you mention in the video? Does it mean I can't use my AirPods at all in the device?🤨

    • @techknowlux

      You should be able to connect them. But for a best experience probably get diff ones. Apple stuff, especially headphones, perform strangely sometimes due to all special hardware that works best with Apple. Beyond that you may have some intermittent disconnect issues or pairing issues.

      My one gripe is i wish theyd strived for the same quality in the software/firmware as the Hardware. Acer could invest a bit more the proprietary software like predator sense, etc. and they’d be a top contender for best laptop.

      @Heiskixsalem Depends whether you want to use it for audio or video studio work. If you use it in a studio for audio, be sure to do some research on the latency for audio production and capture. Also your workflow will need to work around either the noise if you need extra power for studio work or be sure that you can run in quiet/silent mode and that you'll have enough power.

    Thanks for your review on new Helios 2023 in its' pros & cons. I'm intended to purchase a Helios series between 4070 and 3070Ti. • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад

      I absolutely think it's worth to get a 4070 right now unless you don't care about ray tracing or DLSS3+Frame Generation. If the price jump is not too large, it is worth the price of admission. We don't know if NVIDIA will make DLSS3+Frame Generation available for older generation GPUs yet.
      If I am able to get in a Triton 17X I will definitely do a review of it. I really wish it was a Triton 18X though with an 18" display to challenge the Alienware m18 r1, the ASUS ROG Strix/Scar 18 and the Razer Blade 18. Perhaps next year this will happen.

    I have one here and for unfortunate circumstances I cannot return it. This is an overheating piece of junk. The CPU is thermal throttling even at something like 45W with the balanced profile. Undervolting is locked. Cinebench scores are terrible when other devices with the same CPU are hitting 30-32k+.

    • @techknowlux
      @techknowlux  Год назад

      That is so unfortunate. Perhaps it might be best to accept a small loss and still turn it around while you can. The more you wait the more it will become devalued. Or, take matters into your own hands and look at repasting the cpu/gpu etc to see if it helps at all!
