I adore Mr Sir Phil Collins Esquire. Here, once again, Phil is so 'guy next door'. A legend. Great humour in this great segment. Al Murray is excellent. Thank you Phil for all the brilliance you have brought us all through the years.
Not many people can say they have played drums with Phil Collins, 1 person, in the entire planet, can say, they have played a pub, with the man, the legend, mr Phil Collins
And, believe it or not, he is the third best selling performer in history after Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. In the 80's, everything Phil touched turned to gold. Including his historical Live Aid performance - the only artiste to perform both stages UK and USA.... the same day.
Should put the drum bit in it's own video, as much as I love Phil in an interview just "Phil Collins drum duet with the Pub Landlord" would get a lot of extra views.
Not really actually his final drum performance would be at Prince's Trust 2010 where he would play the song Crossroads with Eric Clapton and his band. And that would be after his operation on his wrist. He wouldn't get his back operation until 2015 which is why he's currently walking with a cane today unfortunately 😔
This was filmed in 2008 around the same time when Phil's left hand was giving him problems to the point to where he can't drum anymore. because he said in an interview that the problems begin in 2007 which affected his drumming. But he did pretty good here but not dropping the stick. It's a shame because Phil was such a talented drummer back in his prime and possibly one of the best drummers in the world. It's a shame that his talent was cut so short.
Agreed. The guy has had stellar success, millionaire and well regarded by fellow professionals (I'll leave Noel Gallagher out of that context) but for all this, you cannot buy health. I recon he would give it all up to still be himself, and to be able to play. Seen him last few days on TV and he looks like he has had a stroke - its more than his hands. Very sad.
@morbidmanmusic Bitter, arrogrant, uninformed commenters are so tiring. 🤦🏻♀️(Yes, I've seen the negative comments you've peppered along the way here.) Like it or not, Phil is considered drumming royalty across the board, from fans who have never picked up a drum stick to musical experts and icons. Looks like you consider that a bitter pill. Just swallow the pill and move on. Peace, dude. ✌️
Phil Collins absolute legend, i remember him on top of the pops with a gallon of paint by his side apparently it was a dig at his Mrs who had an affair with the decorator.
Rick Allen of Def Leppard has been playing drums with only one arm since 1984. Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath lost the tips of two of his fingers at age 17 and has continued to play guitar for the next 56 years, so far (inspired by Django Reinhardt).
@@hedgehog1965uk Yes but they were both relative young at the time, so they could adapt easier and had the time and health. Phil was already in his late 50's when his problems started to really impact him. He also has serious back problems from drumming, which is why he's seated during Genesis's current tour. :-)
Buddy Rich is he considered a bit naff now? When I was learning I thought he was awesome. No one else agreed or knew who he was…, ok it was really old stuff. My drum teacher was in JoJo Gun, ( modern jazz) again no one else heard of him, but I looked up to him like a messiah, a god
Buddy rich naff……. Not in my opinion and I’m sure that of any other drummer who’s ever picked up a pair of sticks. He may not be your favourite drummer but when you witness a genius you can only appreciate and enjoy.
Anyone who knows anything about drumming has heard of Buddy Rich. I can't think of single drummer living or dead to match him. Most of today's drummers look like rank amateurs by comparison.
From an interview with Orianne Collins: on the court filings not only include allegations that Collins abused pain killers, but a detailed account of the squalor he fell into, including claims that he stopped brushing his teeth and refused to shower for almost a year. In those documents Orianne says the smell became unbearable and that by 2019, he was incapable of having sex. She claimed: "Philips’s stench became so pervasive that he became a hermit, refusing to interact personally with any people."
What people forget is his hit song " Another day in paradise" about homelessness was a big hit, then , while living in Switzerland ( presumably to avoid paying British taxes) he used the London police ,at British tax payers expense, to remove homeless people from his unoccupied property ,sheer hypocrisy!
That's not hypocrisy. If they were on his property then at the very least they were trespassing, possibly guilty of squatting and breaking and entering. All of which makes them criminals, they weren't just homeless people. What is hypocrisy, is wrongly calling this out, while I'd bet you don't let homeless people stay in your house while you're not there, do you? Didn't think so.
@@georgegray6267 It's still not hypocrisy but you still are hypocritical. How exactly would he use the Swiss Police (or any other) to get criminals out of his UK property? Don't bother trying to answer that, it'll just be a stupid. I have no doubt he lives there partly for tax purposes but you're just being pathetic and idiotic.

Brilliant ! Phil Collins is such a great sport, great musician and a member of a great band
My god, this was SO good. Two of my favourite guys and a wonderful close.
Wicked interview from the Pub Landlord with one of the best Phil Collins..👍💯❤
"he'll be out soon" well played, Collins
2:33 - "so you quit music to rejoin Genesis last year..." still gets me.
💙 Phil played a pub!!! It was bloody fantastic!!😂 lol 👍👏
The drums fucking fantastic
Al, you astonish me with your talent. What a performance.
That's just put the biggest smile on my face 😊, Phil and al playing the pub. Genius.
one of the many great musicians i've left too late to see playing live..... Awesome.
Love Phil's great sense of humor. Great interview.
One of the finest drummers ever. And Phil Collins!

Keith moon , cozy Powell ,Simon Kirk ,John bonham to name a few .
That, Mr Murray, is F***ing awsome!! 🙌
The Drumming was just WICKED! Cheers guys ;-)
OMG, this is the best Phil Collins interview ever!!!!!!
You can have a problem with his solo catalogue and as a longtime Genesis fan, I do but you cannot not love Phil. Great guy.
Great stuff phil seems relaxed ..he's a legend love him❤❤❤❤
That drumming in the end was great!
Al Murray reveals his hidden talent as a damned good drummer!! I never knew!!
Al Murray is a huge Genesis fan in real life, so this must have been a lot of fun for him...
Indeed. It's one thing to meet someone you admire that much but add performing a percussion duet with them and it reaches a whole new level.
Timely post. Still one of the best.
Phil is the most funny musician I´ve ever meet! And I have meet a few or three......
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant improvisation. Loved it. JANBOY. RN. Rtd.
One of the top three drummer singers of all time.
Don't be a fool. You have no clue. Like I thought all you want, but stop that ignorant fan drivel.
That was a brilliant piece of theatre just goes to show what you can achieve with an Oxford education!
What a great Show! Al was Great and so was Mr Collins. This bit is always so awesome
What a legend Phil
One of The Best Ever To Hold A Stick.God Bless You Sir Phil

I agree top drummers 💯👏👏👏👏🏴👍
Just loved it to bits, Absolutely stunning, thank you 👍😃
Been waiting for this clip for years
Sadly phil's health has gotten worse since this interview. Brilliant guy and what a drummer and musician..
Reckon al gave him a dodgy guiness.
absolutely brilliant 👏
You lucky lucky lucky bastard!!
So fun! Thank you!
It’s a Christmas No.1- Jingle Kegs😅
Still the best!

2 x legends for real
Recorded in 2008 probably one of Phil's last drumming performances before his operation

Excellent 🥁

Omg that was amazing
Brilliant pub playing When is the Album out?😝

Well he's also a drummer so was bound to have some sense of rhythm
Brilliant😅
Quit music and re joined Genesis 😂
Fkn ace!♠
You quit music to rejoin Genesis again...🤣
First aired in 2008.
8:45 👍
Phil and john bonham what a combination. I know they respected each other
No mention of Phil Collins the Alamo aficionado, artifact collector, book author, and honorary Texan?
When was this interview ?To see Phil now it’s heartbreaking .
I think it mustve been 2007 08 as he sed he was 57👍
@@jamesgallagher1992 I was thinking circa 2005. So thank you James G.
I would not have guessed how funny and lightning quick Phil Collins's humour would be.
Phil, the 'little' ginger bloke wasn't by any chance my old mate Gordon?? :D
the reason Phil doesn't play anymore is because he is unable to grip the stick with one of his hands, so he has sadly had to hang up his kit

All of that was made up. She just was trying to get more money out of him. All lies.
