A few years ago I got rid of a long beautiful dining room table. Since there is only my husband and myself, most of the chairs sat empty. Every time I entered the house, I would see that beautiful table and felt a sense of depression. We were never “the Waltons” and would never be and all the empty chairs mocked me. After a few years, I sold it at a loss and the burden was immediately lifted. Now we have a lovely round table that seats 4. On special occasions, we have to squeeze an additional chair into the circle, but that’s ok. My ordinary days are much happier now just because the table is smaller and it really reflected my lifestyle.

Next month, it will be one year since my husband passed away. It has been a very full year, a new season of life as a widow. In my purse, I needed to carry a small bag of medical things for him. In the bag was a long list of all his medications that we frequently updated. It was a lifesaver more than a few times when we would find ourselves in an emergency situation.
That bag is no longer in my purse. The weight, both physically and mentally, I am no longer carrying. I’m thankful to know that my husband is with our Savior and he, too, no longer needs that long list of medicines.

This is very powerful comment. Thank you for sharing it with us.. I'll be praying for you as you continue to navigate the loss of your husband. I join you in thankfulness that he is in the arms of our savior, and for the peace that that knowledge can bring you on the difficult days. ❤️🙏

I just lost my husband last month. I also had to carry extra things because of his needs. I too know he is with our Lord and Saviour, my purse has become lighter, but my heart a little heavier.

@@craftingwithmyfriends…I am sorry for your loss. It is a truly stark reality of life, the loss of a loved one.
I hold on to the fact that my deceased husband would want me to continue to thrive within our family and that he would want me to care for our family as if he was still here.
It was important to me to know that our two sons knew that I took care of their dad as best I could. When I am reunited with my husband, I want him to be able to see that I took care of our family the best I could with my remaining years. I thank God for this purpose/reason to look forward.
Prayers for God’s peace and comfort in the years ahead.

I still have my Fanny pack from the 1990’s. I use it for cash when I have or help with garage sales. No chance that the money gets stolen. I love the spiritual analogy!

I have migraines and vertigo. I can not leave the house without my Raybans and earbuds. I am light and motion sensitive. The sunglasses help blunt movement and light. The airpods help me focus and calm down. I also cannot leave the house without my rescue inhaler and a portbale fan in the summer.

I have been carrying a very small purse with very little in it for years now. I carry keys, little bottle of sanitizer, lip gloss, glasses cloth, little pill tin, tiny lotion, thin zipper wallet to carry some cash and my debit and 1 credit card, and that is it! Having to dig through a large purse to find something is a frustration. Eliminating emotional clutter is also important to me in my minimal journey. I love content for us over 50 ladies. Thank you.

Love your bag. My friends always wonder how I get along with such a small purse. I only carry a very small billfold with minimal cards, hand sanitizer, my phone, lip balm, and a pen. I’ve never needed anything else.

Water and a fan (I get anxiety when I am hot) and snacks bc I get hangry and my child gets hangry too, oh and hand sanitizer and a nano bag in case I need a bag and it’s super small. What I do not need but carry is a mini foundation, mini powder and mini eyebrow pencil if I am stranded somewhere and need makeup.

Besides the usual (keys, wallet, phone), toothbrush/toothpaste (I brush my teeth every time I eat or drink something other than water), lotion (I have extremely dry skin), eye drops (also dry eyes), tissue (allergies), baby wipes (cleaning hands. Not a fan of hand sanitizers.) Also try to keep my small Bible with me as well.

I like a tidy purse. I keep smaller pouches with needed items such as medicine, make up, other personal supplies. They don't take up much space and it's easier to switch purses. I like to have a variety of purses.

I was lucky to have hung onto a very minimalist belt bag from 30 years ago. Leather. Coach. Still looks like new. Only two compartments. Keys, cell phone, very thin wallet. If I need anything else, it should fit, i.e. like a pen and checkbook, comb.

I carry Burt’s Bees lip balm all the time. Pain, Imodium, and a med for vertigo is always with me. Ziplock bags, sweetener, pantiliners. Hand sanitizer, wallet. I feel I need space to tuck away little items I might buy. When I go to a smaller purse, I often regret it! I need to work on that!
I have so much I need to declutter in my house. I don’t want my kids to have to deal with it all when I’m gone!

Out of curiosity, since I also deal with vertigo, and if you don't mind sharing...what med do you carry that helps with that?? Once in a while, I do notice that I am wishing I had a little more room in my purse for some little thing I might buy or pick up... So I get that. But most of the time I am happy with my little space. :)

The wallet thing looks hand made. Love it. I just found a bag and ordered it. Strange but carrying a purse has started to get on my nerves. I only use my wallet most of the time. I have a foldable mini hairbrush never hardly ever use it. I use chap stick here and there and carry a very small thing of lotion. My phone, a wallet, and pen with small little paper tablet. I can get all of it in that. I carry breath mints. A small thing of Kleenex. My keys. Also, a barrier for giving mouth to mouth. breathing for someone.. I always have the mouthpiece. Have given mouth to mouth before so has my husband. I did not have one then but wish I did I got a small one. I think I can get all that in it.

I've had a very small purse for a few years. I switched to a little larger one awhile ago and added a few more things to it. After using it for about a month, my neck ached, but not all the time. I thought I just slept wrong. One day while in a store I put my purse over my head to wear it as a cross body purse I felt my neck ache. I realized it was from my purse. I went back to my smaller purse and my neck no longer bothers me. 😊
One thing that I found I'm carrying around in my life, is that I've been playing too many games on my phone. I've already pretty much stopped Facebook and Instagram. Never did the others.

Don't want a purse that's "a pain in the neck" 😊. One of the main reasons I have a small one. I've read several articles were they actually list I have a purse as a possible cause of neck pain. And it makes sense....
