When I was younger my ds lite's bottom screen started acting up, still worked, but it's hard to see anything. I didn't want to ask my parents to buy me a new one and eventually stopped playing, but I still kept it and some of my old games. It still works even now and now that I'm 25 and have access to the internet I'm tempted to try repairing it. I've got nothing to lose. Thanks for the video!
Give it a go Ash! It's not REALLY easy, but it's a challenge that feels good if you manage to pull it off. Watch a load of videos to feel comfortable with it first, and if you don't want to risk breaking your childhood DS, you can buy them faulty on Ebay for around £10. Best of luck and keep me updated 😁😁
The RB and LB always do that if you don't hold them down with one hand while you remove the bottom cover straight up with the other hand. If you don't pull it straight up, and instead try to pry it off like you are showing here, the battery contacts can get hung up on the bottom cover and that's probably what that click sound was. If this happens to you, check your battery contacts after you finish opening the case to make sure they are still in the right place. I've had them come out of position before. Furthermore. using a pick or spudger like that can crack the edge of the white shells and any other shell which has a clear layer on top of the color. Right at the edge there is a transition between white to clear plastic and this rim is delicate. The yellow pikachu edition is another one that has this and there may be others. It's really a pain that those digitizers don't come with one or two adhesive strips. I have seen some which come with a small adhesive sheet that you just cut yourself to the proper size with scissors. Those little black digitizer connector clips are extremely delicate and you have to be very careful or they will break off and they are impossible to fix. It's easier to pass the antenna wire under slot1 if you put it connector side down.
Absolutely loving your vids and sense of humor. Added "fubar" to my vocabulary! Thanks for the perspective as you build your experience (never done a repair)
Important to note is the sound of the jingle. If it sounds really high pitch like a bell instead of like a piano, you might have to reseat your ribbon cable or you may have damaged one of the outer traces. The far left traces as seen from the top front of the DS Lite are the ones carrying the audio. If one of these breaks you will only get sound out of one speaker. This results in a very tinny sound when you start up the DS lite. So check a game with music and confirm you're getting audio out of both speakers by covering them up one at a time.
That white bit on the back of the screen is important. I actually ended up Shorting my motherboard because my replacement screen didn't have insulation
Bro your energy just matches mine so much I honestly can't believe! You don't give af but still get through it all in the end, you're hilarious and I've fixed DS' for a while now. Thanks for giving me reference to several things on the motherboard bro.
What you where trying to peel off is Definitely not protective film! I peeled off that same looking lair off my top screen and I turns out it’s a sheet of film that blends in the red, blue and green Colors together to make different colors. So it’s good that you didn’t try removing it or else The entire thing would’ve been ruined 😅
That top screen ribbon is a pain... has to be really nicely tucked in the connector or no-go! Should always test that before putting everything back together! 🤪
Joey Does Tech yeah it’s a pain but gets easier and painless afterwards. I would like to grab a clear shell for ds lite and be able to see through the guts!
Fr. Spent an entire hour trying to get that stupid cable back into its socket. I had to end up taking off the motherboard again just to have a better angle plugging it in.
Just fixed up a junky one last weekend. Mine didn't even come with the black antenna cable. Kinda glad I didn't have to fidget with trying to loop it underneath the slot. Now I just need to replace the digitizer. :)
Popped off?! I've never had that before pal to be honest. I'd maybe look for a lose screw that popped out for it? I can't really help you out with this one, sorry :(
Thanks for the video! So I have replaced the lower lcd screen, as the old one was flickering. After turning the ds on again, the lower screen was working fine and was very clear. But after a few minutes the lower screen changed colors and became darker. Do you know how I can fix this?
Apparently the reason that happens is because of a turn in the battery compartment! There are a few videos on RUclips that might help, but I don't know the exact issue sorry :(
On my first ever repair on my dsi a ribbon cable came back out when putting it together and I had to take the whole thing apart again after realising the camera doesn't work😭
Thankyou! All my parts have come from Ebay from various sellers. I havent really known what to buy exactly, just gone by reviews and chanced it. Try to stick to sellers with 100% good feedback :)
Would you possibly be able to fix mine if I were to ship it out to you? I want to get mine fixed but I don’t know who does it or would do a good job I still have mine from my childhood and mine has the same issue still use it from time to time but it’s hard because the screen please lmk
Bruh i just want to cleaan my bottom screen inside bruh but theres a lot of screwing and im the clumsy type so im scared to even touch my NDSL i just wanna take off the protective screen and clean the foggy dusty screeen PLSSSSS HELP ME I JUST WANNA CLEAN THE SCREEEN PROTECTIVE ON THE BACK OF IT i wanna send a picture here but i dont think i can do that i just wanna play mortal kombat. ;-;
A dumb ass design on those ribbon cables. Thanks China. That black wire should have been longer so it could go around the game slot rather than under it. If that’s just a stranded wire then you could cut it and lengthen it.

Thanks a lot :D
Yeah it's a bit nerve wrecking and you need a bit of patience, but anyone can do it! Are you think about giving it a go? :)
Water damage on the sticker and tape over the cables both look a bit suspect..
Thanks for videos, they've helped me sort out a couple of DS's!
Ah nice, thanks for confirming and watching!
Really?! Nice to know I'm helping even if it's a little bit 😂
This Ribbon cable for the top part is your nemesis😂
I've only just got over it :D

Plus, no Tri Wing screws so probably been taken apart before

100% agree. I've gotten used to it now, it's a lot easier than when I was first doing it for sure...

Do you have to take off the back part of the LCD if you have another screen with one already attached?
Great video! Comedy show while learning how to fix my DS! Thanks
Haha glad you enjoyed! 😁😁
The black clip on the small ribbon popped off. Any suggestions on how to get it back on? 7:31

Joey Does Tech if it helps it’s the p6 connecter. Looks like a got a new brick lol
@@born2sk8727 Yeah that's a really annoying one, sorry dude. Give me an update when you get a new board :)
Mine popped off too and after wasting an hour trying to get it back in permanently I ended up giving up and buying a motherboard on eBay
This was a fail from minute 0 til the end but somehow it worked hahaha
Completely agree haha. Great success!

So what is the adhesive that was required? My lower screen has a black bar possibly dead pixels I guess is it replaceable?

It works now though right? Good job :)
Soo is there somewhere to buy the adhesive or double sided tape?

New subscriber here. Its definitely been worked on before, that jumper wire is not normal.
Thanks man. What do you mean by jumper wire though? :)
@@JoeyDoesTech Its visible from 5:35 and also 7:25 to 7:45, its above the wifi module.
may ya tell. my why the ds doesnt turn on when the bottom shell is on. it works perfectly when battery is in place
Bit of a long shot but I damaged the top p6 ribbon on my original screen, is there a way to change the ribbon or I need to buy a whole new unit
Hey Bob. I think if the actual ribbon is damaged you'll have to repair the screen. They've not too expensive, especially the top ones :)

How many mm screwdriver did you use?
My Nintendo DS Lite doesn’t turn on and when I try to turn it on it just flashes a white screen for a second then just turns off. How do I fix this?
can you send the link to your tool kit?

AGREED! The design wasn't fantastic, but then I guess they weren't designed to be opened :(
