- HP Umpire Ramon De Jesus ejected Mets manager Carlos Mendoza for arguing a strike three call to Francisco Alvarez that in real-time looked low, but post-game processing deemed a correct K call. Lost in the shuffle was strike one, located outside. Report: www.closecalls...

This video also describes a bit about how postgame processing's function effects key pitch tracking variables sz_bot and sz_top, representing bottom and top strike zone heights for batters. In real-time, the raw data use a preset value for sz heights (for Alvarez it was sz_bot 1.59), but in post-game processing, these variables get adjusted to reflect what was actually observed during the game. For Alvarez, the RAW sz_bot of 1.59 got processed to sz_bot 1.43, which made his strike three call go from incorrect to correct. And that's why we don't have electronic strike zones yet. The vertical component simply is unreliable in real time.
