Not sure if I missed it but is this a high res audio song, and also is the phone capable of high res? Not to mention the audio player and whatever the equipment between the phone and speakers. In all 3 models I can hear a distortion in the high end. The S series use silkdome and don’t normally screech but I’ve found the R’s to do it in some installs. Not knocking the video. Thanks for the comparison as it helps us buyers make choices without having to buy them! Also not everyone may be using all high res gear so this would also be helpful for a general setup!
Were these played with the tweeters? If not this is an unfair comparison as a lot of the "clarity" could just be the woofer not rolling off the highs in the same spot.

The only way you could compare them like this is if you eq them to the same exact frequency response. Also you really need to compare them in the frequency band they are intended to be used in. One driver might have better clarity overall but the other driver might have more clarity in the frequency band it is actually used for.

I wanted the R2 6.5 coaxials in my truck, but only pushing 50 watts per channel so was worried about them being underpowered, opted to go with the S2 since they were a better match with my output. May eventually go with a more powerful 4 channel amp and upgrade to R2 components instead of coaxials
do they have to be 60w rms on the nose? most speakers are rated "up to", so a 70w-90w rms speaker will work just fine on 60w. 60 should be the minimum, but I bet you can find plenty of speakers that can handle more than 60w and be just fine at the 60w you are giving them...
All this shows is effectively the upper frequency limit of the bass drivers. These are designed as part of a system, with a crossover and tweeter. This is like choosing a sports car based on redline and little else.
You need to to put frequency blockers on them. The passive crossover doesn’t filter out enough. I have th X series components, running a X-A70F, the scream. I run hipass 600 hz filters the can NOT play lows well. They are not midrange or mid bass. They are loud speakers NOT woofers. For 5-600 hz to 100 hz you need a woofer. Knowledge….. 🎤 drop.

Fiberglass cloth cones on the r-series will not last very long if you push them hard!! In this test he is using his iPhone or Android as signal which is nothing but Distortion to begin with so this is a completely erroneous test and is subjective to The Listener only.. .
Well iPhone and Android is what people most likely will be playing music on. Also "push them hard" makes no sense. They come with a passive crossover as long as you feed them their required watts they'll be good, and if not, there's the warranty

I have the S S65C and plays loud without distortion, using a focal 100watt rms per channel. What amp did you use and how many? watts.

50watts rms is plenty for those R speakers.
Type R can go hit 100watt rms. They handle
