For sire they did. The company contracted to make the real Focals just keeps making more after the run is over or the ones that get sorted out for quality control for the color being off or whatever get put off to side. They then sell them

A good example is professional PA amplifiers. it's common knowledge now that Lab Grupen was being cloned but what really happened is that the license had expired and the factory kept production running and sold them under different branding or no branding.
Starting around 14:25, the bass hits on the fake Focal produces a LOT less movement than on the real Focal, seen especially when paying attention to the rubber surround. Also it looks to me like the center cone on the fake has a sharper profile shape than the real one. There is a notable difference in the dynamics between the speakers, the audio on the real Focal seems a bit more dynamic. The fake is no slouch though, also sounds good based on your smartphone audio recording. Great job on the comparison, thanks for sharing it. I was considering buying a discounted open item Focal from Crutchfield, but knowing that there are a lot of counterfeits, there's a possibility that an original purchaser may have abused Crutchfield's gracious return policy by fraudulently keeping returning a fake while keeping the real item?
I think I'd be happy with the fakes, as I could hear very subtle differences that could easily be balanced out through the eq levels, and even happier that I spent $160 instead of $700.
Wow I had no idea there was fakes I had bought a set of 6.5in access coaxial on black Friday for like $90 shipped and from a real online car audio shop so I just assumed that they were the real thing and I thought that they sounded incredible for the money as they typically cost a lot more than that but now I'm wondering if I actually bought a set of fakes or not 🤷♂️🤦♂️
They probably are not fake. As these are both made in China. The probably package up rejects and sell them. Being we see the slight color difference etc.
That's what I have always said. Fake and counterfeit items are sold on the down low by the manufacturer most times. They're just defects and they try to make their money back some how.
The are made in same factory but different years of manufacturing. These have been produced may years. There are small changes in production over the years.
Yea, seems liek its' the case. I doubt the fake would try to remake the product to get as close to performance as possible like this. Probably different years or even factory/materials or version. Happens all the time in products, even on luxury high end ones.
Damn the range on both speaker are different, I can even see the movement of the cones. The fake have small angulation vs the originals angulation. You can even see the movement of the cones up and down, the original maybe have twice or more range than the fake.
He should have switched the speakes and tried one more time, probably just he way he conected them to his phone they was not geting the same power. That explains the cone movment.
WOW. That has got to be the best copy of a product I've ever seen. I did see the real woofer during playback has a bigger rubber surround. Not by much though. If they copied them so good, I'd bet the fake ones probably sound pretty good. Same happened a while back with Energy and Monoprice home speakers. The difference in that case was the Monoprice fake was actually a one to one copy with the exact same parts and no audio distinction. They were sued and had to modify their speakers. The Chinese are getting really good at copies.
Its Just the same factory. Fake are Just order and the Chinese company make Them Do not care who the original owner is. Than you only have to make fake stickers and you are done with it.
I really appreciated your video. Very thorough. I was just eyeing a set on ebay, and now i know i was looking at a set of fakes. I'll be going through crutchfield now.
Really curious about the sound , problem once a company has a product made in China it's now there's to copy at will and sell to who ever . Who knows these both may be made in same factory even
I expected performance to not be on par, but when you hear the fake you can notice that signature Focal sound, where you don't find with any other brand. I don't think these are QA rejects or old stock, just roughly the same speaker but made with slightly poorer components, the bad quality copper wire on the tweeter for instance. I've bought a wireless Shure 2 mic set for $75 in Vietnam which performed and sounded amazing compared to a generic wired mic, but it wasn't as durable as the real deal though it outputted the familiar Shure sound.
They came from the same factory. Label colour differs from batches and batches. The soundbox used to test the woofers were horrible. No meaning to test without setting up all three drivers with crossover in a proper enclosure. The music used to test them wasn’t good either. It sounds horrible from the recording.
Agreed on all points except the last one. I believe he was just playing the music too loud and therefore saturating, (distorting), his camera's microphone because it couldn't handle such loud SPLs without distorting, therefore making the video's audio track sound horrible. I kinda doubt it was the actual music itself that sounded that rough. Still a very bad "test" setup though, kinda like a crappy retail store "demo" board, which almost NEVER sound good because of all the rattles and resonances! (He DID mention that drawback in the video, but he still should have come up with a better setup, regardless.)
@@hepaking4053 Well, you do the best that you can and that you know how to do I guess, and that's all that anyone can really do... Might I suggest though if/when you test and compare any speakers in the future, and you make a video about it, make sure to adjust the volume level of your amp and speakers down low enough so that the SPLs of the speakers don't saturate, (i.e. distort the sound of), your cameras microphone, therefore making the resulting video recording's audio quality basically useless for any real "comparison" purposes... And also be sure to watch and listen to your video recording first, BEFORE posting it, to make sure that it ISN'T distorted sounding first, that way if you need to go back and adjust levels and re-record said video until it's totally clean, clear audio, then you can do that before actually posting it.
If we neglect the recording equipment... with such difference in baffle mount they must sound different anyway in the first place. Impossible to tell anything. You need to make measurements to prove if they are different or not. T/S parameters with DATS and frequency response with REW. But they must be mounted at the same place on the baffle or you can't compare even the measurements.
They came from the same factory and the Sound Quality is probably the same. One just get distributor through focal and the other one goes straight through the consumer. Its no longer fake vs real. Its more of cut out the Vendor and middle man because you contract higher volume manufacturing to meet your bottom line profit.
They are both made in what they call now as "OEM" in China. Also, because in China there is no such thing as patent rights so anybody with cash can ask this "OEM" company to make identical units with their own branding or same brand. But the difference is the budget of the client. If the customer ask this "OEM" companies for a smaller cost then some compromise in some parts , usually internal parts, would be done diffeerently thus making it somewhat inferior to the original but not much.
Hmmm. Did you contact Focal I bet you they are real the wire I'm sure they out source so it would be a production can change and that would explain the difference. Or what about b- stock merchandise at the discounted price?
If the movie house of Gucci didn’t already teach us this. Gucci was making the fakes and selling them for cheap so they could also tap into the more demand market. Same factories made both. I know this isn’t the case for all of them but when you see a almost identical fake you have to wonder right?
I highly doubt that. They were probably made in the same plant. Focal just want to charge you more for a cheap speaker. The only focals worth getting are the ones made in France
FOCAL are Expensive AF..I almost bought a set in Houston, TX at Flea market at a much cheaper price..I went with Memphis..I blew the 5 1/4 set but still have 6×9 separates..I'm wondering if I too bought knock offs..DAM!!!! the 5 1/4 blew way to easily on a Fosgate 4 channel and the fronts didn't. The fronts where Legend 5 1/4 loud speakers. I'm not a fan of either!! Seems like the new schoolers like that loud PA sound with horn treble..Clarity and center stage sound was my goal ....
Memphis is just generic Chinese made speakers. They look like any other cheap speakers sold at flea markets or Wal Mart. You can't go wrong with Focal if you're looking for real, good sound. Especially if you go with their higher end sets like Flax or K2s, Utopias are on another level✌

What is fake is a brand Focal itself, who claims to be french, but at the end sells products made in China. This is definition of fake. The fact that another factory 200m further copies what is already made in China, is pointless.
Box Boxes are fake as well? Other fakes I have dealt with the trained eye can tell from the box. And In the 1st shot of this video both look really good.
Sound comparisons CANNOT be accurately made if you distort the video's sound by using too loud of a signal for your camera's microphone to handle! It amazes me just how many people don't grasp that basic concept! SMH... These two speaker sets are so close to each other it almost makes me think that they are both prob. made in the exact same factory, but that the real one is the only one of the two sets that actually passed the "quality control" checks to be sold at legit dealers, and the "fake" one is just a "second", or a "reject" one that failed the quality control checks for some reason... If some (other, no name) company wanted to really make a totally fake version of these, I would suspect that the driver quality would be considerably different and inferior, especially in cone material and motor/magnet structure, and the crossovers would most likely be majorly different, with a cheap copy version of the crossover using much inferior components compared to the real one, simply because the crossovers of speakers are prob. the most misunderstood part of any speaker, and also one of the most difficult to make really good AND inexpensively... it's either designed using good quality (and relatively expensive) parts, or else poor quality, cheaper parts, but since not too many "average" people know ANYTHING about what makes up a truly good quality crossover, I would think that would be the definite "weak link" in any cheap copy of this speaker set, since the crossover would be the easiest way to "get away with" using inferior components... because most people don't know any better... However, these two speaker sets look so similar, even in the crossovers, (as far as I could see when pausing the video on the side by side view of them), that I'm leaning more towards one of these sets being a totally good, fully "passed" (inspection) set, and the "fake" one rather just being sold cheaper at a "non authorized" dealer because it was a "factory reject" for whatever (relatively minor) reason. In order to tell with any more accuracy I would have to inspect these two sets myself, in person, especially the crossovers and their exact circuit and component values.
The are made in same factory but different years of manufacturing. These have been produced may years. There are small changes in production over the years.
The fake focal on the left hand side have different mounting holes as compared to the real focal on the right hand side …. Count the holes and the arrangement. Also the real FOCAL have greater cone excursions when playing. The sound is completely different because the crossovers are not installed, so both woofers are playing full frequency and both fake and real speakers are “breaking up” that’s the reason for the sound distortions. Also we are hearing the sound as were recorded through a mobile phone. Both fake and real Focal woofers sounded very terrible. However, look at the real Focal woofer on the right hand side have greater come excursion trying to play full range, so technically the real FOCAL is of better quality
Both tweeters sounds the same!!!! Both sound TERRIBLE!!!!!!! I guess I have deaf ears!!!!! From what I've ever heard from Focal there tweeters have been so pitche you need a DSP. To smooth them out!!! Heard that from many installers. Had heard there Utopias.. Heard them for 5 minutes had to turn them down because of there pitche sound. So I reverse one wire on the tweeter put them out of phase sounded much better.. But if you have a DSP would make it sound perfect.... Sorry this comparison doesn't work for me. Now maybe if he enclosed each 6.5 it might make a bigger difference in sound quality.. Just saying..
They r not fake focal itself made them 8n china..... in bigger numbers..bcs made in china cost reduced almost half...that's it...one is made in china one is made in France ....but both by focal...
The distorion of the recorded sound is so immense that any effort (and it is a lot of effort i can tell)goes out of the window. No real comparisson can be made dew to this fact.

They are not fake one they are also from same factory and made in china but lot is long long older like 6 -8 years I have ps165 V1 series and auditor series same one box is without bill and warranty and one is with bill and warranty they sound same no difference except some has corrosion on tweeter wire and some speaker cones look old and but not fake
The crossovers were much easier to spot the fake, at least for me anyways; 1. The serial number (10W 3R9J) on the fake unit was VERY dark ink, and the lettering was off-center. 2. The zip tie used around the wire coils on the fake one were much thicker zip ties than what was used on the authentic unit.
Looks almost identical. I might not be surprised if both sets came out of the same factory.
For sire they did. The company contracted to make the real Focals just keeps making more after the run is over or the ones that get sorted out for quality control for the color being off or whatever get put off to side. They then sell them
I dont think so, the real (I spotted them right away) sound better, clarity was much better.
Likely is, often these factories will manufacture hundreds of brands on the same line. A single factory can stretch an entire city block.

Also we are hearing the sound as were recorded through a mobile phone. Both fake and real Focal woofers sounded very terrible. However, look at the real Focal woofer on the right hand side have greater come excursion trying to play full range, so technically the real FOCAL is of better quality
I noticed that as well but if you look, they aren't clocked the same.
@@marcmo7138 thanks for sharing your observations
Where do I buy the fake ones
Access are only entry level drivers and are made in China anyway.
Now I have to check mine
Nice to know thanks for the info.
14:41 fake definitely sounds muddy!!! real has more dynamic range
100% PROBABLY FROM THE SAME FACTORY
The Tweeters sound similar
Where can I order the Fake Focals? They sound great :)
You think youtube is a good way to audition speakers?
if they sound the same you have 2 pairs then :)
I bought the fake ones for $100usd on TaoBao, worth every penny.
If the original cost 50% more than the fake one and sound only 20% better than fake one than the fake one is better. Simple math.
Sadly Focals quality is not very good anymore even their quite expensive studio monitors use the cheapest components from china
They r not fake focal itself made them 8n china..... in bigger numbers..bcs made in china cost reduced almost half...that's it...one is made in china one is made in France ....but both by focal...
It's the same product, the fake ones are not fake they are just smuggled from the factory and sold cheap.. Obviously they have saved on taxes
Wrong; the fake one on left sounds brighter than the real one on the right
Fake one rubber looks ultra soft then real one
The distorion of the recorded sound is so immense that any effort (and it is a lot of effort i can tell)goes out of the window. No real comparisson can be made dew to this fact.
Hepa King plz send me this focal original set . it's my wish
They both sound like a cell phone speaker to me.
Buy both & return fake ones in genuine ones box for a full refund 😁😁😁 & keep genuine ones at a big discount 😁😁😁
I also would like to see if Focal would warranty the fake ones 🤔
Your welcome 🤗
I wouldn't doubt this happens which is why I would be weary of open box items for sale
You are an evil genius ! 😂🤨🤯
@kev J I in good faith bought & paid for what I thought was in good faith for 2 genuine sets from 2 different merchants with my hard earned honest
paycheck, therefore I returned the more expensive 1 in good faith as a good consumer keeping everyone employed at the real Focal & fake Focal. Remember I'm not an expert on genuine & fakes. Just a smarter than average consumer. 😁😁
Very similar!!!!!!!! real one play some frequency that fake one dont
I cant see any diffrence in the video good clone that is scary i wonder if i could feel the diffrence if i had the speakers in my hands? if not i would have been easly scammed
Would it be more scary if I tell you you can find all entry level focal speakers in fake one? Access series, universal, PX they all have fakes one. Just be aware if you are going to buy one
Yeah, lets outsource everything, what bad could happen...
I would bet the farm, that they both came from the same manufacturer .
I think there bith focal and someone just undercut the high markup prices!
I saw focals on ali express so they must be the fake ones in this video 🤔
How can you speak on fake speakers with such bad video sound??
Did you use a fake microphone?
They are not fake one they are also from same factory and made in china but lot is long long older like 6 -8 years I have ps165 V1 series and auditor series same one box is without bill and warranty and one is with bill and warranty they sound same no difference except some has corrosion on tweeter wire and some speaker cones look old and but not fake
The magnet of fake is bigger than the original
Why does everyone pronounce it focale?
I have no clue . I believe it’s idiot from California.
It’s pronounced Focal just like you would pronounce vocal
The crossovers were much easier to spot the fake, at least for me anyways;
1. The serial number (10W 3R9J) on the fake unit was VERY dark ink, and the lettering was off-center.
2. The zip tie used around the wire coils on the fake one were much thicker zip ties than what was used on the authentic unit.
Cual es real? Izquierda o derecha?
I would buy fake one after seeing this comparison 😉
Focal... just look at those cheesy xover parts
What happens when you let other nations make all your stuff.
Der falsche Lautsprecher ist lauter und klingt besser
