    The time when federer was playing with that toothpick of a racket. Its incredible that he won so many grandslams with such a major disadvantage, during his peak years. The difference in power when he switched to a larger one in aus 2017 is so blatantly evident

    • @draganduga2781
      @draganduga2781 4 года назад

      That s his problem if he doesn't know what kind of racket is better for him. Also it's easy to be smart now how come no one noticed he should change racket back then. You are only saying it when he actually changed to bigger racket and you can compare the difference.

    • @rorschach3005

      @@draganduga2781 It was always known but it was difficult for him to make the transition, because he came up in a time where the courts where much faster and maneuverability was more important than slugging the ball senseless. Bjorn Borg had the same issue when he couldnt switch from the wooden racket. It was the genius of federer that he dominated the fast court era and stayed a dominant force even when it slowed down. By 2010, it became impossible to compete in the tv friendly slow courts with the old tool.

      @@draganduga2781 These homogenised slowed-down courts and modern racquets and strings have taken away from tennis as much as they've given. Different playing styles on different surfaces, variety,touch, feel, flair, invention and artistry have all but gone from tennis to be replaced by baseline grinding bores like Djokovic and muscled-up baseline ball-bashers like Nadal, Del Potro and S. A pity Rafa pulled out of their match in IW 2019. Fed would have won and their h2h would be more even at 23 16, overall, and 14 10 to Fed on non clay. Rafa's last wins over Fed occcured in 2013, and in the Australian open 2014, when he was adjusting to the new racquet, after an injury hit 2013, and experimenting with racquets.

    • @TheTmat007
      @TheTmat007 5 лет назад +3

      Lol. What a lame and sorry ass excuse! Nadal has been dominating Federer since their rivalry began in 2004. In fact, he won 6 of his first 7 matches against Federer. And that included 5 straight victories. And from that onwards, Nadal had continued to dominate their h2h rivalry. Was Federer adjusting to "the new racquet, after an injury" back then? And Federer has even pointed out that part of the reason for his better success against Nadal (in recent years) is because Nadal isn't playing quite like he did back then. And so, what you stated is complete bs!

    • @TheTmat007
      @TheTmat007 5 лет назад +1

      @Siva Kumar Kakara
      Well, that most of their early matchups were on clay is true. However, 3 of their first 4 matches took place on hard courts. And Nadal won 2 (including their very first). And Nadal also held a lead on hardcourts, prior to Federer winning their last 5 matches on the surface (which helped him gain the lead). Even so, they are still very close on hard courts. And I think Nadal was also on pace to record more HC slams than Federer (at least based upon age). But injuries played a huge role in slowing him down.

    • @radilev1996
      @radilev1996 5 лет назад +4

      @Siva Kumar Kakara Nadal has beaten Federer 3 times in Australian Open and once in Wimbledon. Also in Cincinati and WTF finals, as well as in Indian Wells, Dubai, Miami and basically everywhere they've played on hard and grass. Not the same story for Federer on clay vs Nadal.

    Federer should have never won a match against Rafa with that backhand. When a mismatch like this happens, the h2h should by all means be 20-3 in favor of the guy with the advantage. Think of big-3 vs Wawrinka. Total one sided. That Federer managed to beat Rafa with that unsure one-handed backhand and their h2h was 23 vs 10 before the racket switch speaks volumes to his talent. In all honesty, it should have been 23-4 in Rafa's favor to account for bad days for Rafa. But since that racket switch, it's been a different story. One wonders how different their rivalry would have been had Federer adopted a bigger racket all the way back in 2007. Would Rafa have had his amazing 2008-2009 where he beat Fed at the FO, Wimbledon and AO? Would Fed have had an earlier 2017 and for a longer duration? Things we'll never know.
