Thanks for your help.I upgraded to a fat plastic syringe with a piece of clear 1/4" fuel line about 16" long jammed on the tip where the needle would go. Make for near effortless filling, you can see the fluid exit the syringe and determine exactly what you've added. A quick shot with the pressure washer to clean up under there is recommended. Transmissions do not digest road grit well
Good job on that quick picks I am 59 and I have never taken a vehicle I've ever owned to any shop I've always worked on them even if I had to rebuild the motor I did it myself and believe me in all those years I've done plenty The shops suck at what they do and they charge you way to much money not your normal video but we still like it if it helps one person it was worth it thank you for sharing that
Thank you bro. I took my truck to the shop and they said all I needed was to service my transmission, meaning I needed to flush it. It was your video that made me think about getting it done. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That’s exactly what makes you stand out from the rest, you figure out what’s going on and then come up with a solution, whether temporary or permanent. So many people say they can’t do something without even trying. You troubleshoot and go. I’m the same way Jason, I at least will try before I say I can’t and not bother at all. I’m so glad you figured out the problem and fixed it before caring it to a repair shop and being out money that you don’t have an abundance of right now. Thanks for sharing this with us. Great job.👍❤️👍❤️
This is why we like YOU and you stand out to us! You and Nick are amazing and can do pretty much anything between y'all! Aren't you supposed to be in Florida on a beach right now? Get off your phone haha
Jason you are amazing. You find an economical solution to an otherwise costly repair and share it. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for helping others.
The contraption I made: bought a drill attachment pump at harbor freight. That has male garden hose fittings. Went to Lowe’s and bought 2 garden hose to 1/4” line adapters in the drip line section and clear 1/4” hose (ice maker kit for fridge). Cut 2 holes in one of the atf jug caps ( one for hose, one for air relief). Let the drill do all the work.
I added a new check/fill tube on my 2014 f150, no more crawling underneath, i also tig welded a drain plug on the tranny pan,i cut a 1/2" pipe coupling in half and welded it on..
Anything that works in a pinch isn't technically wrong. Just a tip for others who may be trying this; if you have a helper and some clear tubing, you can also snake the tubing down from up top, then use a bottle cap with the little tapered nipple that will fit your ATF bottle and it will work too. The key here is to innovate and think AROUND the problem before giving in and paying someone else to do it. You'll feel accomplished and your bank account will thank you.
my 2013 f150 fx4 has some transmission issues, at low speed seems to shift in a high gear, and gears down kinda funny when slowing down im gonna check out the fluiid level thanks. i already had it in for a recall and the mechanics hooked the computer up to it and programed the transmission correctly. latley its been acting up again however.
Never had a vehicle that didnt have the dipstick to check the transmission under the hood. Dont think Ill ever get one that dont either. That was just crazy right there. Making it so that even the simplest maintenance is gonna cost people an expensive shop trip. Crazy! Find you an ol beater that you can fix up, you'll come out better in the long run, especially for around the "farm" and all the work that will need to be done. Use the "fancy ride" for trips and what not.
Great hack!! No, not permanent but this is a difference between a 500 dollar tow fee (yes, up here in NY) and buying some time to get a permanent fix in place.
There is a recall for that trans from ford, the trans will shift erratically and potentially downshift into 1st gear randomly. It’s a software update at the dealer. The trans shouldn’t be low on fluid unless it’s leaking or was serviced incorrectly.
Remember to not do this if it’s a hot engine. That is right next to your exhaust. I took mine to the dealer and they found a recall on a software problem as well for the transmission.
That's what they say they say they are going to reset the program cause as the transmission wear and the software don't match and you'll have more problems
If you wanna pay for one, B&M makes a locking transmission dipstick for the 10-22 F150. One Ford should have put in in the first place. Also Dorman makes a steel transmission pan that has a drain plug on it for those quick drain and fills.
I wish we were closer...we could have totally helped you out! This is where we SHINE! I can’t talk about gardening but we can talk motors! We owned a motorcycle dealership for many many many years and Troy loved working in the service department best! Glad your $1 fix worked!
Lol. Yea , I suppose if you are on the side of the road and you are low on fluid... maybe... but transmission has a recall on it for a free fix at the dealership if under 10 years and 150,000 miles... it has a molded lead frame issue.. only if you are lucky will you be able to fix with adding or changing fluid..
If that’s happening there is a recall on the 60r80 trans the mold lead frame goes bad everything you described in the beginning is what happened to mine and ford fixed it for me no charge but def appreciate the tip on how to fill/ check I didn’t know how to do that
Thanks Jason, I have a problem with my truck going into first gear or granny gear. I'm going to try this tomorrow when the truck is cooled off. I appreciate the video.
Or just use a brake bleeder; those hand pumps with plastic hoses, a lot simpler with getting the fluid the hole. But btw there's a recall on the trans that starts down shifting to first and then not shifting out of first... Update on software.
Thanks. I also have a 2013 V6 Ecoboost F 150. It HAS NO DIPSTICK under the hood for checking level/adding to this spot. Why not?? Anyway, mine was having some surging issues and it was recommended to add Lube Guard Instant Shutter Fix to the tranny fluid (normal trucks just into dipstick opening under hood). Now I know how to access it at least and try to add it into that damn bottom hole, if I can get the bolt off!! Thanks.
I bought some of those plastic squeezable ketchup and mustard condiment squeeze bottles that you see at the stadiums at the dollar tree for a dollar I cut the end off the tip there to make it bigger and stick some fish tank hose onto it and stick the hose in the hole fill the ketchup bottle up with The transmission fluid and squeeze it in but that is a good idea also.
Nice job bud. You do what you have to do. WTG! Figuring out how to make whatever it is work for what you need to do. Yea, i would take it in for the recall Mike talked about.
My 2013 F150 XLT always throws the wrench and the RPMs go nuts and the speedometer has no response might have to try this. Also will throw the wrench and my speedometer will go to zero and gas mileage and engine miles will go blank

Thanks for the video! Checking mine now! BM(Haa) has a youtube video on adding in your own transmission dip stick that allows you to check and fill. Similar to your video- it's taking the bolt/dip stick off and simply replacing new.
My truck, same year make/model doing the same thing. Low tyranny fluid and it was black. I just had it flushed. Shifts smoother but I don't know yet if the drooping gear problem is solved because I just had it done 2 hours ago and it wouldn't have that problem too often.
No he didn't show how to check it or how to read the dipstick. Did you see the color of his fluid ? Burnt brown , he was just adding some not knowing what level is correct . Vehicle has to be running to get correct level . Just some info .

The problem was being stranded without the proper tools. The fix was adding fluid without proper tools and getting you back on the road to get it worked on by a mechanic. Common sense...
A Walmart "mechanic" screwed up a car I owned while putting in a new battery. The idiot working on it couldn't figure out why the battery cables wouldn't hook up like he thought they should so he cut the cable ends off and put replacement ends on and proceeded to put them on backwards. Leave early in the morning.
Run a small hose with a funnel from the passenger header side in the engine bay. Pop it in the hole and pour from above
Take it to the dealer there is a recall on a part in the transmission that is causing the shifting problem and it is 100% covered!
