Martha's actor was INCREDIBLE, i was really uncomfortable for most of the show but i couldn't stop watching, it was honestly hard not binging it. When he was given a drink by a complete stranger, he realized it was never his fault and he was only being human. It helped NOT sympathize with Martha because what she did was NOT human.
I feel bad for Richard Gadd. That's brutal. I guess I'm grateful he got the story out. Not easy to talk about but he's probably at the point where he feels like there's nothing else to lose. Healing is tough especially from wounds as deep as that.
It was also really comforting for me and almost certainly many other people. You constantly hear people say "you aren't alone" or nonsense like that but seeing somebody else go through things so unfathomably similar to what you went through that idea of not being alone is - for the first time - actually real. I am very grateful for him getting this story out there for that :3.

Thankfully, I have medication now that helps…. Just wish my dad had been around a little longer when I finally have a quality of life. The first year anniversary of his passing is coming up.

Richard's life story was very similar to my own unfortunately, aspiring author, exploring my sexuality, trying drugs, being drugged, being abused, attempting suicide multiple times r*ped etc. I had a lot of similar experiences to him unfortunately and yet the beat I ended up missing was parents who could immediately empathize with me, my mother got mad at me when I confessed as if what I was doing was incestuous by 'talking about my sex life' my grandmother treated it like a 'learning lesson' and any man in my family had nothing to say to me. I've had no one to really help me with this except my girlfriend these days but I'm still living with my grandparents at 21, I too have been taking up a project about my life, it's actually a cosmic horror mythology series as a big passion of mine that got me out of my depression was science. I wanted to take the ideas of taking major ideas in science and life and represent them as gods including things such as Quantum mechanics, neuroscience, psychology, anatomy, astrology and including some of my own personal beliefs I've developed over the years. Personally I hope that my series can garner as much success as Richard's especially with how many years I've been working on it, as it has often grown and change with myself

The one movie I can compare Baby Reindeer to is King of Comedy. The 1982 film directed by Martin Scorsese that focuses on a mentally-unwell man portrayed by Robert De Niro. The main character, Rupert, is obsessed with the fictional comedian and his show while wanting to put himself into the entertainment industry to try becoming a comedian. The film is meant to be a comedy, yet like with Baby Reindeer, isn't afraid to display the grim and dark nature of reality, as well as showing how unhinged Rupert is the more he tries to get into the showbiz, to the point he held his own idol hostage. I honestly haven't seen King of Comedy in years, but that's the analogy I can think of when it comes to Baby Reindeer with its dark humour and serious elements.
One of my favorite things about this series is how it shows how it feels to be assulted. I haven't seen many other shows represent the feelings after a situation like that
I honestly love that it doesn't just end with him opening up to his parents or when Martha gets convicted because it's, again, something really grounded. there's not one big moment where you finish with all your trauma and beat depression, it's, as he says, a journey.
He doesn't randomly go into pubs and starts performing - these scenes were done during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where there are venues in every nook and cranny (300+) that wouldn't normally be used for a live show during the month long event.

He doesn't randomly go into pubs and starts performing - these scenes were done during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where there are venues in every nook and cranny (300+) that wouldn't normally be used for a live show during the month long event.

The amount of times I watched baby reindeer is crazy, like the execution, the content, the series entertainment factor in itself, everything is so amazing down to the tee especially compared to the lacklustre pile of stuff alongside it
