I love love love your videos. I have been making glass beads in 104 for over 20 years. I always learn something new or a different or better way of doing something I’ve always been doing. Your quirky and fun approach is always enjoyable to. Thanks loads.

Wow! I’m so flattered! Thank you sooo much, Enrico, that makes my day! ✨🌹
I taught Lampworking for a long time, yet there has never been a moment of not learning with the glass! I think that’s what makes it such an addictive and exciting challenge for us all.
Thanks again for hanging with me through the Journey!!😆

You are so welcome! I’m not sure if I actually answered the question fully or not. Annealing glass can be a controversial subject in the glass world..... but I hope this helps give you a better understanding of annealing glass! 🦇😂

Hi Robin -- long time no talk. I'm hoping you can give me some guidance regarding mandrel racks for the Chili Pepper. Can you tell me how it sits? I understand the base ad the front and back with the holes. What I'm not sure about is do you actually put the whole rack into the kiln with the door closed with just the ends of the mandrels sticking out? Is the door slightly open? How do you place mandrels that you have center dipped? So many questions! Hope you are well and that your Summer is going well. Seems to have flown by! I haven't been in my studio for a few weeks. I'm looking forward to getting back to it! Cheers.

Hello Derweasel! 🤗🌹 Great to hear from you! So…I do not have a bead rack in my Chilipepper.
I just have some short kiln shelf pieces lining the back of my annealer so I can rest the mandrel on it so my glass doesn’t touch the bottom. My mandrels do stick out under the door about 3 inches or so.✨✨ I tried to look up the bead rack but couldn’t find it…I am assuming that it goes in the oven and that your mandrels will also stick out of the door. It’s ok if the door is slightly open too.
The rack sounds interesting! If you can please send a link! 🤗✨ Have fun in your studio!!
Thanks so much and hope you are doing well!! Cheers- Robin 👋🏽🌈💫💫💫

I don’t have a kiln and will try my first piece today. I’m purchasing a small piece of lampworked glass and will just be adding a bail but am worried I will ruin it. Any advice?

Hi Brenda! How exciting for you! That’s awesome! 😅 Ok…so if you don’t have an oven yet then you might be able to cool it down in the flame. It’s called flame annealing. When you are finished with your bead or glass then let it hand out at the cool end of the flame for a bit to get it used to a cooler temp, then hold further out to cool more…then set aside and don’t touch until cold.
Or- make the bead, give it one good heat, then set aside. I notice if it’s small ,and cools down evenly all over it usually will not crack. I don’t use this technique often, but it can work in a pinch. ****do not reheat after the final cooling or it will pop! I hope this helps!! Good Luck Brenda!!😃✨🌹👋🏽
Let me know how it goes! Cheers- Robin 💫🌹✨🌹

@@scottwoodresearch thanks so much! I will definitely give this a go. How long should I hold it in the cooler end of the flame before it’s okay? I was just worried because the piece is beautiful but they didn’t sell it as a necklace so I decided I’ll add a glass bail to it but didn’t want to ruin it.

Ohhh!? Ok wait!! If it has already been worked in the flame then do not heat!! You will have to try a cold connection. Like a UV Glue. If the glass you bought is not a raw piece of rod that you are going to melt and make it into a bead then forget everything I just said!!! 😂

I have tried this experiment before. Using an already made piece of glass and trying to reheat it. It’s not the best thing to do. Most likely it will crack immediately when heating it up. Especially if you do not know exactly what type of glass you are dealing with there are many many types out there! So if you want to make sure that you do not ruin this piece the best thing to do is connect it with a glue! 😃💫

@@scottwoodresearch Ohh okay gotcha okay np! I’ll make just the bail then then connect it with super glue. Quick question 😅 I’m trying to light my torch but it’s not making the hissing sound to show gas is coming out and it won’t light either but the torch is twisted on, am I doing something wrong🥲?
