  • Biomimetic Lego 3 axis flexible robot arm. A Robot Tentacle. It's my favorite thing, Lego that looks alive!

hey! an interesting hybrid. The 100%ers will be along soon though.
Nice work, looking forward to seeing you make a walker out of this... 😎👍🍺🇬🇧

A tentacle walker would be super ambitious. I would have to learn some programing and have some on board computing. It might be possible with as few as 9 servos (3 legs)but 18 would be better (6 legs).

@@MaxBrix A quadruped with tentacle legs could be the ultimate quadruped . You will need 4 x 3 = 12 servos.
      Yes you can do it . . . 👍

Now I can't stop thinking of the children's joke: Why does an octopus have eight arms?

      Because ten tickles.

I'm curious, what type of controller did you use with this? Was it just a normal one or a custom one made for this?
also, glad to see you uploading again 😤

Don't tell anyone, they might get mad at me. It was an RC radio. Just the Wheel and throttle type. It has a dial on the side for a third channel. It's a bit awkward for this so I want to learn how to control an arduino to make projects like this easier to control.

Oh yeah, lego being controlled by an arduino would open up so many doors for creativity. It would be awesome if you made a video on it when you've got it all up and running

you shouldnt even need sprung ujoints if you just use an elastic string. Then you just slightly pre stretch them. I would think that would compensate reasonably well.

Increasing elasticity reduces the amount of force the tendons can exert on the tip. A little elasticity allows for more dexterity because the arm can bend more. At the end of the video I add slightly elastic tendons. I tried some stuff with more elasticity and the arm was not responsive (without tension from the other tendons). The rubber couldn't put enough force to the tip of the tentacle. The stuff I am using is only elastic until it stretches by about 5% in length, giving a good pull. If the tendons were tight enough to straighten the tentacle it would be rigid. If they were elastic enough for it to bend they wouldn't exert enough force. If you make a video with a tentacle with elastic tendons that straighten it and can curl 160 degrees, I will gladly admit that I was wrong.

@@MaxBrix It'd probably be an exercise in finding the correct tendon material then. Possible just really annoying lol

This is really cool! how much weight it can lift? If its powerful enough, you could make something that walks, or a robotic arm. The possibilities are endless

How about a better tentacle with a claw? To make a walker I think I would need 3 tentacles with 6 servos each. I have to learn arduino and buy some stuff first.
