For someone just starting out on the piccolo trumpet, your suggestions have been and enormous help. The breathing, the duration of playing, the frequency. All of it. Invaluable.
Excellent video, Ryan. My first piccolo trumpet is on the way, and I'm glad I saw this video as I'm preparing. Thank's VERY much; you've got an excellent style for a teacher. Two thumbs up!! :)
I haven't played piccolo much over the past two years and had to play it on Tuesday night. I have a solid upper register but its quite a hard switch. I went from Hindemith Morgen Musik> MIchael Buble arrangement of feeling good on big Bb to a quartet playing piccolo trumpet! Definitley need to do some proper practicing.
Great video, Ryan! Loved your insight! I saw from your comment below, that you play a Pickett MP. How close is the size compared to your regular trumpet MP?
Thanks Rick! The music is a portion of a piece from my cd that was released in January. It’s impressive you watched all the way to the end to hear it 😃
The notes have the same fingerings as Bb, they just sound different (an octave higher), so if I understand your question correctly, a regular fingering chart will work
Maybe I said it in a confusing way. The goal is to get the air speed, energy, intensity, etc. of the top note on the fifth so that you maintain that energy on the way down and back up. The hope is that if you can play all the notes in a similar manner, the top note doesn’t feel as difficult to reach.
I remind myself that it takes a different mindset. I do five minutes on the B flat and five minutes on the A slide. Seems to help with stamina without over practicing.
Excuse me, sir, but you may want to check out. James stamp book and Roy poper's supplemeit's very similar to the exercise you're doing. I like Barbara but I don't think she came up with it. But I'm glad it works for you. But I'm glad it works for you.
I hope this video helps you all with your piccolo struggles! Let me know if you have more questions!

Thanks David, I appreciate the feedback. I’m glad this video is helpful for you!
You deserve more subscribers tbh. Quality is top notch

It’s definitely not as deep. It’s a custom mouthpiece, but the cup is a 6D. I got a bunch of years ago and like it pretty good.
Wow! Thank you for this
My pleasure, I hope it’s helpful!
Thanks for the great video Ryan!
Absolutely Dave, thanks for watching! Always open to suggestions for future content 😃
Wow, Ryan! How did I miss this video? I have parts of the "Messiah" and Bach's "Christmas Oratorio" this December. Good pointers!!!!
Always enjoy your content, Ryan…Bravo!
Thanks for the love Chris! I’m excited for you and your upcoming military band summit! It’s great you’re doing it again.
Great stuff Ryan! Enjoyed it very much. What is the music on your "outro?" Pretty cool too. Hope you're well!!! Best...Rick Bogard

Do you know anywhere I can get piccolo trumpet music with a fingering chart

Is that a black burn lead pipe with a trumpet or picc shank? What size are you using?
It’s a trumpet shank Blackburn pipe. No idea which size though.
2:14. "The goal is to get the fifth to feel like the top note in terms of ease"? The top note is the hardest least easy note.
Maybe I said it in a confusing way.

@@RyanBeachtrumpet thank that makes sense

Yeah, that balance is important to find. Sounds like you found something that works for you! That’s the ultimate goal for all of us.
This is a B-flat Pic? What mouthpiece are you using?
Yes, a Bb picc. It’s a Pickett mouthpiece. A 6D with some custom modifications to the throat/backbore.
Really nice, concise, effective video. Could’ve used more high notes though.
I look forward to your piccolo video with more high notes!

I don’t recall saying she came up with this exercise. I said I learned it from her at northwestern.
