  • Time lapse movie of the Jan. 20/21 2019 total lunar eclipse, assembled from 1150 individual exposures. The still images were processed with a number of Octave and Python scripts to ensure
    - smooth exposure transition (despite a 30,000× change in lunar brightness)
    - image registration for Moon-centered view
    - smooth motion through the Earth's shadow
    - interpolation of a few missing frames
Temperatures in Michigan were around −22 °C/−8 °F.

Nicely done! I like the reference of the moon moving through the earth's shadow better, but it's nice to see the detail of the moon-relative animation as well.

I have noticed a weird rectangle with a different black tint at 0:28 sec and 0:46. Wondering what is happening here??

I can't seem to find the rectangle. Where (relative to the moon) do you see it?

@@AxelMellingerAstro I couldn't see it on my phone screen, but on the computer monitor, we can see it here ruclips.net/video/QuabHK2Le_g/видео.html and also at 0:46. Make sure you are full screen and lights off in the room. It's weird... just as the moon is changing colour, the square box appears just for about half a second.
I have been observing dozens of time lapse of that same eclipse and funny enough, there is something fishy about all of them. One guy even goes to say and show that an asteroid impacted on the moon... but not on your footage..
