“Make sure to be home by sundown” *comes back home at 10PM*
And goes by the same time in the winter because you can’t just be forced to stay inside all winter just because of the lack of natural light
Also, why would you go by sundown anyways? At least go by Civil Dusk or something unless that’s too late in the summer
more like 12:30 am
@@Milky-gr7hz Well, sundown isn't when it's fully dark. Sundown is when the sun sets. Although you are accurate with what time it's fully dark because I saw a video where he actually showed when the sunrise and sunset and also when it became fully dark was and it was 12:10 am in the summer.
Well 9:42 PM to be exact.
I live not too far from where this is taken and it reminds me of how depressing winters are here. Get up and go to work in cold and darkness, I work in a factory with only artificial light, come home in cold and darkness. I never get any real daylight until weekends. I am so glad that we are in spring now, I am appreciating every warm day and late sunset.
Depresing?! at least you see the snow or even get snow during winter
@@elfallguyxd4081 snow? We get maybe 2-3 days of snow each year. This is probably the only enjoyable part of winter. The majority of time it is grey, dark, cold, and wet.
I get none snow
@@elfallguyxd4081 where about are you based. When I think of people getting no snow, I always think of my family members in Australia, who were amazed by the stuff when they visited.
I’m based in center Chile around Valparaiso
Thought the one on the left was winter at first then the sun started rising
smh
Same! 😬
Same
Same.
Caught summer guy smoking a big one at 4:22 am😊 .
I thought exactly the same too
I love that timelapse, What an amazing 9 hour difference.
People in tropical countries: I don't get it...
Gregory Rodriguez this is literally me rn... I just don’t get it
If not in the tropics then the sun rises pretty much due east and stays high up in the sky during the summer. In winter it rises more southeasterly and stays lower in the sky throughout the day. As can clearly be seen here. Not to mention the fact the day is longer(more daylight) in the summer. Hope that helps!
I do not get it
I don't get it ;-;
🌴🌴🏝️🤔🤔
Living near the equator i cant imagine a sun rise at 3 am..
Me too
I just can imagine the lowest position of the sun in winter really like 8 a.m
Nop. Brazilian guy here... sun usually rises at 7 am and sets at 6:30pm all year round
Depends on timezones too. In northeastern Brazil, the Sun rises before 5 am due to UTC -3 we use here, although we're located on a UTC -2 region
If your time zone was as long as China’s time zone and you were in the far east of your time zone, the sun rises a lot earlier and sets a lot later
As the UK and Ireland are very up north, we have VERY short days in winter (sunrise at 8:50 am and sunset at 4:00 pm) and VERY long days in summer (sunrise at 4:47 am and sunset at 10:08 pm). I love when it doesn’t get like fully dark until like 11 pm! You get so much light in the day that we almost have 24 hours (but are just off by a couple hours).
Basically sunset here in Stockholm in june but sunrise at 3:30 am so it at farled its dark blue and lightish in the horizon
Same here in manchester with less daylight in winter than london.
This is so cool 🔥
You live higher up the country than me. For me in the winter it’s 08:02 sunrise and 15:47 sunset. And in the summer it’s 04:36 sunrise and 21:19 sunset. The earliest sunrise is 04:36 and the latest sunrise is 08:05, the earliest sunset is 15:45 and the latest sunset is 21:20. Winter solstice length is 7h 45m and summer solstice length is 16h 43m. They change fast and it’s insane. This is so much different to the USA and people think they are the same latitude as us.
@@daylighttime-lapsesuk3606 if ur up near the very top of the country (like in kalispell montana or something) on the summer solstice u can actually get 05:30 sunrises and 21:49 sunsets. the downside is that on the winter solstice the sun rises at 08:31 and sets at 16:44... idk i like the later sunset tbh lol
I remember going on holiday for the first time and being amazed that some countries were pitch black at 7pm in the height of summer.
On the other hand, having the sun fuck off at 4pm in the winter - I hate it!
4pm?. That ain’t that bad, here it’s dark at like 3pm

Finally, an apples to apples comparison between summer and winter!
not exactly, daylight saving time and the equation of time throws this a bit off balance, but sort of
I think, dislikes came from flat-earthers
lol yeah Be interesting to know how they explain this...
And (probably) the people who live in a (sub)tropical city/town (Sarcasm)
@@TheElvisnator..
And I live in tropical country (Indonesia)🤙
It’s called the December June solstice
@@BigJayKanerthat is not mean flat earthers are wrong it mean you ve not got proper information about it.
even at midnight on the solstice, there still seems to be a little bit of daylight in the bottom. just barely. that's what's called astronomical twilight I think.
Manchester is well within 18 degrees latitude below the Arctic Circle
It actually should still be nautical twilight till about 00:15… and then for just circa 2 hours astronomical twilight in Manchester, not lower then -13.0° the sun position.
Yes. I can see it out of my north facing bedroom window right now! 52.5N.
Yes, you are right.
@@AlisonBryen you are so lucky! I am on 22.5°N latitude.

I live in Northern Aberdeenshire we get about another hour extra in summer and minus an hour in winter compared to this. 57.3' I think were at. I can't find a time lapse of it but this to show a friend who lives in NYC but this is close enough. Pretty cool.
*THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO* 👍🏾. I live in Los Angeles so we don't see this phenomenon happen here. Watching the sun rise at 3 a.m. and seeing the sun virtually down ALL DAY on the winter solstice side is INCREDIBLE. Experiencing the midnight sun/polar night above the arctic circle is definitely on my bucket list. I also plan to see and play around under those beautiful Aurora borealis too. 🌠

Sorry to break it to ya but it's in manchester when it was taken in the UK???
Stop lying 🤥 you live in Afghanistan 🇦🇫
Awesome. I love when seeing sunrise before 4 and sunset after 18
I live at 20 degrees latitude, and while the length of the day doesn't vary too dramatically, the locations where the sun rises and sets does change. We also have times when the sun is directly 90 degrees overhead, and vertical poles don't cast a shadow.
The location of sun rising and setting changes everywhere else
the length of the day does have a noticeable difference, here at 23° latitude we get almost three extra hours of daylight in the summer. of course, nothing compared to this
If you live either 23.4394 degrees north or south, the sun will get up to 90 degrees on the summer solstice, which means no shadow. This is because Earth is tilted on an axis of 23.4394 degrees, which means on the summer solstice (Jun 21 or Dec 21 depending on the hemisphere), those lattitudes will point directly at the sun.
Thu/04/14/2022 at 12:25 EDT.
@@eduardoxenofonte4004 Since your lattitude is -22.9°, then the sun will get up to 89.5° above the horizon on the summer solstice, since you live 0.5° above the Tropic of Capricorn. 90 - 0.5 = 89.5.
I live in 7°S and we only have around 40 minutes difference in daylight
Being in a tropical country, I only have sunrise at 5 am in summer and 6 am in winter :/
Well that's amazing, I would love to live near the equator
At least u don’t have winter
I do like the variation rather than every day the samer, though. I like winter as well but would dread it if I was ever without the knowledge I'd have a roof over my head and food on the table - and good company of course.
I don't understand you.
Tropical countries don't have a winter

thank you for the video. as someone that live in a tropical country, a solstice is a very strange phenomenon that I could not understand/related to.
I wish one time I can experience it by myself.
It's worth it.

I really can't stand winter In England its depressing as f...k
What gets me is even the plants leave. Or as a plant would say leaf.
Winters are very calm and nights are longer. It's probably the only season I love the most.
Ben Robinson --- But you love the light summer nights. I lived in Brisbane and it was always dark by 7pm no matter the time of year.
Same with Seattle. When we lived up there it was so depressing, barely any sunshine. I’m literally from sun city (el paso) where the sun shines bright every single day. I hate wa so much.
In Russia too, bro.

Splendid double-sided time-lapse Scott! I love watching some good noctilucent clouds during summer evenings/nights during the solstice.
Mesmerising video. The soundscape is perfectly eerie too. Makes me think of ice crystals glistening under moonlight.
Thanks for the upload Scott :) very interesting to watch well done 👍
Summer for me will always be a time of everlasting light! ^^ summer will always be my favourite season no matter what ^^
I agree with you I love summer I wish winter didn't exist
Stacey Dobber I wish summer didn’t exist, you probably don’t live within 2000 miles of the equator like I do, down here the summers are so brutal and dangerous sometimes, but winters have such nice tempratures and snow is extremely rare once in a decade with very faint amount when it happens. Be glad you have winters. btw i live just above the tropic of cancer
@@eggrollsoup hey, you hate summer but I love summer and you can't just change my opinion of how I think of my favorite season

I live at about 45 N in the US. This is pretty close to how it is here. It gets light about 4:30 AM on the Summer Solstice, and Dark around 10 PM. Gets light about 8AM and dark by 5PM on the Winter Solstice. It gets depressing in the winter. In the tropics, it is the same amount of day/night year round and twilight is much shorter. I wish it was that way here. But I would have a difficult time living in a place that doesn't have 4 seasons.
same
On the bright side: you'll only need one set of light summer wardrobe year-round and no daylight-saving time shenanigans 😄
i live at exactly 42n also in the us and this is also pretty close minus abt 80 mins or so. its light at 4:45-5am (not daytime tho thats at 5:30) instead of like 4 here and its dark at 10 and not 11:30. on the summer solstice and on the winter one its not day time until 7:40 (7:45 on the day before dst ends) and its dark at 4:37. yea lol

I live near the tropics, so during solstices the sunrise times are around 5:30 am and 7:00 am, and sunset times are around 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. The difference in the sun is still noticeable between summer and winter, but probably not as much as it is further north.

I still think it's weird how this happens here in the UK and I've lived here for 13 years now. I mean, 4am rising and 11pm setting? I expected it to always be almost all-day light as I used to live in the Southern hemisphere near the equator in Zambia where there's A LOAD of exposure to the sun.

I live just over the Pennines from Manchester and it's actually considerably lighter at 9 - 10pm in mid summer than this video shows. We get daylight until around 10:30, and only full night until around midnight.
When driving at sunset in a northerly or southerly direction I always notice how much lighter the sky looking north is compared to the sky looking south. Then again it gets light later at sunrise of course.
Ralph Jackson It’s lighter near the horizon where the sun is during twilight ofc, so that’s why it’s lighter where the sun is.
Mon/05/31/2021 at 13:30 EDT2
It only gets dark out and goes down to Astronomical Twilight with the sun 13° below the horizon, but the sun has to be at least 18° below the horizon for it to be Solar Night. Also, you are right about how it looks darker on camera than irl. Like legit Idk why the Winter Sunset sky was already towards Mid Blue even though it’s usually Pale Blue and then Mid Blue is Early Nautical Twilight and you can still see just fine outside then, not have everything as a silhouette.
Mon/05/31/2021 at 13:37 EDT2
Tolu Laiyemo Same. If we used EDT2, then it would be like that. I have my watch on EDT2, so it says 9:15-18:30 for the sun rising and setting on the winter solstice and 6:23-21:29 for the summer solstice.
Sat/05/02/2022 at 12:22 EDT2
In Athens, where I live, on the summer solstice the sunrise is at 6:02 am and the sunset at 8:51 pm (with Daylight Saving Time) and on the winter solstice the sunrise is at 7:37 am and the sunset at 5:09 pm.
At least the Solar Noon is somewhat later where you live. For me, it’s 7:14/7:15-16:30 in winter and 5:23-20:28/20:29 in summer.
Also, it would be nice if there was Double DST from 5 weeks after the DST starting until 9 weeks before it ends. Also, it’s better to call it daylight shifting time instead of daylight saving time.

Awakened Higher Self ok
Awakened Higher Self I guess I was kind of able to get used to it being light out at 4:49 or not even, but it would still be better if it was an hour later around this time of the year.
And I have EDT2 on my watch btw and I type it in the date at the bottom of the cumment, plus Mon/06/14/2021 at 25:19 EDT2 means that it’s technically Tue/06/15/2021 at 1:19 EDT2, but I’m still awake for Monday night ofc, so I just call it Monday and you can actually do that with the time in 24 hour time, plus it clears up the confusion of midnight starting the day (0:00) vs ending the day (24:00), plus 24 hour time just makes more sense in general.
Time 1 on my watch is EST, time 2 is EDT, and time 3 is EDT2 (obviously it’s not official ofc, but still though), and I can just easily switch back and forth between the 3, plus I have an Ironman Timex Sports Watch btw.

@@andrewerbold8005 Yea
very cool
I’m from Berlin so only a degree further south (52.5ish North). I love the short nights which is also why in a few years I’ll move to 72N
When I lived in the Virgin Islands I did not really notice any season change except that it rained more during the summer months. Also, we did not observe daylight savings and sunset was around 6 or 7 pm year round. I live much farther north now in the U.S.A. and I love it when the sun doesn't set until 8pm! Also, the Milky Way was very easily seen year round in the Virgin Islands which I thought was pretty neat.
Tropical areas don’t have a minimal change in sunrise and sunset just the altitude of the sun
@@Electricity667 the sun doesn't get any lower than 66.7° altitude at noon. And for two days every year the sun is exactly 90° above the horizon. This is a surreal experience - seeing something vertical seems like photoshopped.

It’s alien because we never stop to observe. Thanks for posting.
Manchester, England, UK is in the same latitude as Edmonton, AB, Canada. So, the length of day and night in both summer and winter in Edmonton, AB, Canada is about the same as it is in Manchester, England, UK.
I live more North at 55.8 degrees and it's much like this, just slightly more difference between the two.
i did this way back in 2012,still have it on film, the summer solstice..
I kinda like those timelapses
Imagine getting up for school and looking out your window and it’s still pitch black outside.
that is how we roll
With their winter nighttimes starting at like 2 or 3 PM and only ending at about 10 AM, you spend at least one hour in the dark in school, and also come back when it has been dark outside for 1-2 hours. Luckily I don't live in the UK.
I had that experience.
Btw i live in South Europe, Balkan peninsula.
Here in Canada Whitehorse Yukon winter solstice vs summer solstice at 60.8 degrees north latitude.
Winter:
Day: 11:09-16:47
Night: 16:47-11:09
Summer:
Day: 4:27-23:36
Night: 23:36-4:27
It doesn't ever get completely dark in summer solstice only civil twilight in the darkest hours. In winter it is always dark and even in the daylight hours the sun is only barely above the horizon.
Welcome to 61 degrees north.
Stockholm Sweden winter day 8:45-14:45 night 15:00-8:30
Summer 3:30- 22:00 night 22:30-03:00
Damn that sucks. And I thought 41.8 here in Chicago was bad. Oh well each place has their pros and cons. Least you don't get nearly as much heat in the summer
Where I live the winter the sunshine rises at like 8-9 am and sets 3pm and summertime it’s 3 am - 10 pm
So depressing! 😔
Yes you live 57 degrees north
@@accelerationvirgulepetit I won't be able to withstand it, because I live on 22.5 degrees North latitude.
So it's similar to that video?
@@obenohneuntennix7776 i live in 59N and its quite similar but its dark here at 4pm in winter and in summer its alright daylight at 3am and it only gets dark ish at midnight. So like 2 jour difference
in Toronto, summer solstice is: 5:36am to 9:02pm
Winter solstice is: 7:47am to 4:43pm
Yeah i live near toronto and thats basically what its like, some times its still light at 10 pm
The difference of location of the Sun in the sky is HUGE
