I ADORE Stapelia's and yours are absolutely GORGEOUS they are AMAZING :-) and WOW at 3:05 I LOVE the BEAUTIFUL Bloom :-) and 4:20 lots of beautiful BLOOMS such cool looking flowers :-) I have my Stapelia hirsuta in big bud ready to flower any day and I am so excited to see it :-) thanks a million for sharing your amazing collection Bill and sending you tons of love and happy growing from Ireland for a blooming lovely weekend XXXX
Aaaw, your Stapelias look so healthy and beautiful. The lifesaver plant is my favourite. I had neglected my Stapelia grandiflora and have repotted it earlier this year. I was lucky and it's doing fine now. :) I was advised not to let it sit in water, but it seems to depend on the environment wether or not it leads to rot. Thanks for sharing and happy growing! :)
I would love to see your stapelia group... and you're right... it really depends on the growing conditions for watering. in the winter they are kept very dry... in the crazy heat of our summer they are watered very often.
Love the structure of these plants. They look so healthy and the flowers are so interesting. The plants behind you in the video look amazing too given how hot and dry it's been in our area this year.
I need to get you some cuttings to try growing in your new windows :) they are fun to grow :) and some of the garden plants are doing ok... it's too hot for many things.. we water like crazy... certainly not the same as a good rain as you know
I currently have two, stapelia grandiflora and stapelia paniculata. The paniculata is adorable, like a mini grandiflora. I love both of them though. I also have some seeds growing :)
Beautiful plants! They are fun to watch grow indeed!! Do you know why they can starting getting yellow on top. Also tiny. Black lines on some other ones. Did you ever see anything like it on your plants?
I love the Stapelia plants. Just have my Stapelia Gigantea in flower at the moment. I have a S. Bell which flowers every year with many brown flowers. Sometimes plants like tight flower pots, especially the Hoya's. Nice flowers you have. Huernia Zebrina is the H. life saver flower I think.
Thanks for this video...my stapelias aren't doing so well...still slightly dry looking so maybe i need to up my water..will try to do that and hopefully they will plump up more
Do you water Stapelia when they are just on the border between dry and humid, or are you waiting for an extra day or two after that? And do you water with a lesser amount when they are at that stage and then water more often since since use up the water faster then - or is it better to water so the water goes through the soil and then make sure to remove extra water so the roots do not rott? Also in it's sappling stage (after growing roots) - do you keep the soil moist for the first few weeks, or should it still dry up between waterings before adding more water? Also how much perlite do you use for these?
Thanks for sharing, Bill! They are all lovely. I didn't know the big stapelia can produce such large blooms. I hope it will bloom for you soon. The lifesaver plant is the cutest thing, and the blooms are beautiful! Do all of these make stinky blooms? They look so fantastic!
They are pollinated by flies so yes they all have an icky smell but not always strong. I can't smell the ones I have... maybe the bigger blooms will have a bigger smell
+Orchids & a Dutchy I agree, these plants and their flowers look awesome but I feel just like your husband. I can't imagine to grow plants that have stinky blooms. That's why I've never bought a Bulbophyllum either.
Bettina I guess if we lived in a house with a garden, I could take a blooming plant to a corner far away at the backyard, but in an apartment, I wouldn't enjoy the smell, nor the flies, because stapelias are very efficient at attracting flies. I like the blooms, but I can't have this plant. Same thing with some beautiful but stinky bulbophyllums. Maybe if I had a terrarium and could keep them inside it, such that we wouldn't feel the smell.
+Orchids & a Dutchy 😊 You're right. At the same time, I'm quite happy that there're at least a few orchids I can resist😉. I'm really getting out of space. 😂 Have nice evening
If I recall, you're formally educated "in plants," but if you've got any good orchid or hort books, please make a video about them. I think not enough people realize that they should be reading a book or two. You can't learn everything you need to on the internet because you don't know what to look for. (Example: if you don't know that orchids need pure water, you'll never know to look for it and assume you've got root rot issues) - that happened to me using 360ppm tap water 10 years ago. Got a second book looking for the answer and found it. You have way more subscribers than me, so you've got a bigger voice. Can help more people.
Thank you... we will not be moving for 7 months... but things are moving along... looks like they will be pouring our foundation in the next few weeks.
Bill....what ever happened to your Medinilla Magnifica? I haven't heard about it in a while and am curious about how it's doing. I bought one, almost killed it and am still trying to get it right!
I actually got rid of it... they can be a lot of work to keep looking good... I unfortunately have a revolving door of plants because of this channel and my medinilla unfortunately didn't make the cut... it flowered religiously but the leaves never looked perfect... mostly my fault.... in time I will get more... My friend grows them commercially so I have access to beautiful ones at any time... One day I will make a care video at the greenhouse but I have not had the time...
That plant is really fun to grow... it will tolerate a variety of conditions but it prefers high light warm temps and moderate watering... in the winter I have it under grow lights with my other plants... it survives but doesn't thrive and bloom... the blooms happen with higher light.
I would love if you would sell me a cutting..... I will gladly,, send you a pant or Seeds you don5 have, I like every the plant but no luck....Thanks. John
They are very interesting family of cacti!I like the flowers, cute and nice colour. Thanks for sharing.
Wow they look really nice, this summer was really doing good to them.
I agree! They love the heat I think

very cool Bill , I still got the stapelia Scitula cuttings you gave me and made more from them lol
I'm happy to hear that :) I'm sure your plant is much nicer looking than mine :)

The succulent arrangement is lovely - you could sell these successfully.

PlantzNThings I wish I could grow something like these, but I'm sure my husband would hate the idea. (because of the smell)

WOW! that is awsome! can you try pollinating some of Those? and can I have a cutting from the life savor one? thanks
Thanks.

they look great and I hope the move is going good
Thank you... we will not be moving for 7 months... but things are moving along... looks like they will be pouring our foundation in the next few weeks.

Please do...I was counting on you to help me through.....😀
Wow this is beautiful 😧😍
That lifesaver bloom is awesome! What kind of conditions does it need?
That plant is really fun to grow... it will tolerate a variety of conditions but it prefers high light warm temps and moderate watering... in the winter I have it under grow lights with my other plants... it survives but doesn't thrive and bloom... the blooms happen with higher light.
Sigh. My staps got attacked by mealy bug. I had to eviscerate the lot of it and am going to restart from cuttings. So sad. Yours look great.
Oh No!! That's terrible... but I understand your frustration with the bug battle...
I just bought a Phalaenopsis Orchid from the Grocery Store, and I was wondering when is the best time to repot it?
The best time to repot is once flowering has finished.. but I have noticed that Phals are more forgiving if repotting is needed when I spike.
Fantastic fine plants.
What soil do you use?
Bo.
Thank you.... I use regular potting soil... sometimes I add a little extra drainage by using perlite or orchid bark
Are these plants easy to find
Hey Bill! I think the full scientific name of the life saver plant in Huernia zebrina. in case you wanted full specifics lol
did that not show up in the video? maybe an ad covered it :(
+PlantzNThings Oh, whoops. I didn't see the red text that had the species name -- sorry about that!
Can you grow elephant ears year round as a house plant?
The lifesaver plant is a Huernia zebrina.
Can you do an updated cacti and succulent collection
Huernia Zebrina Stapelia 'Life Saver Plant'
is it possible to propogate stapelia?
Why is it called a "life saver"?
Huernia zebrina = life saver plant
You haven't done an orchid update in sooo long
the last video was a vanda video
+PlantzNThings Haha I mean like an update on all of them to see how much they've grown and all.
I would love if you would sell me a cutting..... I will gladly,, send you a pant or Seeds you don5 have, I like every the plant but no luck....Thanks. John
Those are Huernia the plants you don't know
can i buy that?
"I don't know the scientific names". Instant fail.
I dislike the blatant left wing ad .....dont need dat shit when looking for stapelia vids
he, he (laugh like a girly-man, and DUH !
