Scotty is and always be an absolute legend in the car scene in Victoria Australia. He built some absolutely beasts, usually on his own in the garage, and the lad can steer!.
I can't believe it took me 5 years to find this video, this car is amazing! Love it. That much more impressed too by the manual transmission decision. Probably does 10's without the weight of the lawn bowls on the parcel tray! 😂
Fullboost, I love the car and the little bit with the lovely yet convincing "lady" driving the car. I love fellow car guys with a sense of humor. I'm building a low budget sleeper right now consisting of a 1987 Toyota Cressida wagon and a Ford 2.3 (Lima) from a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I look forward to when I can drive my little bucket of crap.... I mean joy and have fun trolling the unsuspicious. Videos such as yours are fuel to keep me moving on my project.
I remember seeing this Datto in a magazine a long time ago, pretty sure the guy used to drive it around with roof rack and an ironing board on top 🤣 love it
Unfortunately, in Australia this is the only way you can have a modified car and not get raped by the 5-0. I absolutely love this car! Great work guys!
love it I had a 1200 sedan with 110hp at the wheels from a high compression A15 and that felt pretty quick but this thing would chop it clean in half great work on the conversion
No, the weight of that engine, the power it makes and the leaf spring suspension has to do with it. The 120y when stock is a car with good handling characteristics, although not sporty by any means.
great vid, that thing would be awesome to drive, one question are they slicks with radials up front? I wonder if thats why its a handfull in the strip?
Yeeeeeeees. My first car was a 120y 2 door, it annihilated my mates mk2 escorts and Chevettes. Finally recognition of a true 1st car great. well done for creating the weapon it deserved to be. Boooyahhhh.
My father have this car , but it's still old rusty cause our family don't have the money to repair it , and I really wish it could on the road again one day exactly like in the video
Faaarrrkk that looked like a real handful down the track. Wonder how fast it would be if it went straight...lol..reckon it did an extra 100 yards. Motor was ace and looked real smart in the engine bay. Nice sleeper there lads.
I love what the aussies can do with cars, and this is another nice example. To all the haters:come to Holland were the only car loving thing nowadays seems to be your bragging neighbor on his Opel or VW company car......
Nice to see someone using LPG. Its such a great fuel for turbo engines. Have you considered changing to Liquid LPG injection? It acts like a huge intercooler as your injecting a cryogenic liquid straight into your inlet ports.
This would be a fun car to bring to the Summernats, especially if you let Nanna drive through the gates. Heads for the scrutineering shed: "are you sure you want to enter this in the go/whoa, burnout comp and show and shine? It's a nice example of a 120Y but..........HOLY @$&*!" As the scrutineer opens the bonnet
No, your problem is the ones going perfectly straight, they don't know what to do when it doesn't. How is this going to creep up on him it is already moving everywhere, he expects it.
Datsun is a brand Nissan created when they were first breaking into the American market. If the Datsun product flopped they didn't want it to damage the Nissan name. Eventually the company dropped the Datsun badge and later created the Infinity brand for their "luxury" products.
Dorothy the Drag Queen....Car and Driver.....He gets a firm grip on his knob, turned it sideways, and the way he grips and holds his lever on the one two change.....
Not the fastest thing down the 1/4, but definitely one of the wildest and scariest. Good thing it's a skinny car, every foot counts when you're eating up that much lane.
Brilliant :D Place I worked at in 1992, old chap in the sales room had one of these in red, totally stock but was mint in every way, not a spec of rust anywhere. Only thing I am a bit unsure about on this sleeper is that It seems skittish, kinda looks like it wants to veer off violently. Is this a problem or just too much power in such a light car? Also cracked up at the woman's face at the gas station LOL!
You wouldn't want to crash with those on your back shelf! The term 'Loose Cannon' comes to mind!
ha..but then, if he's kept the standard brakes...no chance of even tipping them off the parcel shelf
They might be bolted in from underneath if he's drilled them and tapped in some threads.
The lawn bowls are there to help with traction! Might need a few more though, by the looks of things!
Yes but on the bonnet.Lol
Scotty is and always be an absolute legend in the car scene in Victoria Australia. He built some absolutely beasts, usually on his own in the garage, and the lad can steer!.
Handles mad! Probably did 500m with all the weaving
I can't believe it took me 5 years to find this video, this car is amazing! Love it. That much more impressed too by the manual transmission decision. Probably does 10's without the weight of the lawn bowls on the parcel tray! 😂
This is so mental and I love every bit of it! Good Job man!

you can see the torque twist in the steering wheel at 3:33 and 4:20...a real jaw dropper, i love the way it lays rubber for a quarter mile
Where in the world did you find such a mint interior? I have never seen such a nice 120Y.
Wiseguy7 lucky gf
I remember seeing this Datto in a magazine a long time ago, pretty sure the guy used to drive it around with roof rack and an ironing board on top 🤣 love it
HAHA love it! I hope those lawn bowls on the back parcel shelf are bolted down!
Awesome, needs more lawn bowls as ballast
Unfortunately, in Australia this is the only way you can have a modified car and not get raped by the 5-0. I absolutely love this car! Great work guys!
the fastest way between two points is always a straight line.
Looks like quite a handful! I had a 120Y once when I was a bit younger. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be alive if it went half as good as this!
i can't decide whats more dangerous the car or the lawnbowls on the parcel shelf lol
Awesome sunday driver lol
love it I had a 1200 sedan with 110hp at the wheels from a high compression A15 and that felt pretty quick but this thing would chop it clean in half great work on the conversion
You can tell the driver has to hold onto everything he can to get it down the end without crashing! Pure adrenaline rush!
jesus that thing is all over the track!
Superior Dato 120Y handling.
No, the weight of that engine, the power it makes and the leaf spring suspension has to do with it.
The 120y when stock is a car with good handling characteristics, although not sporty by any means.
ja , it would be a lot quicker if it could go straight hahaaaaa!
typical manual with big hp
Christopher Twist stick a auto in it it would take a second off easily
thank you.. its everything a sleeper should be.
Blacktracks for 400m! fark man no wonder you look so relieved every time you cross the finish. is like ah fark i made it.....awesome vid thanks
For fuck sake people...the lawn bowls on the parcel shelf are CLEARLY bolted down. Did you all not see the car cornering & yet the bowls don't move?
hat off to you for keeping it on the track.....got a real street fighter there...gotta fight to keep it on the street
these car's were fantastic, i owned one years ago so reliable and economical, 1171cc pushrod engine of british bmc design. rust got to them though.
and extra space for further upgrades.
I always heard engines superb but rust buckets
Yes as the driver i would mighty concerned those bowling balls, like the fact it looks COMPLETELY stock until he puts the boot in.
Guy can drive thats for sure
looks like an accident waiting to happen.
Looks like a lively ride down the 1/4, certainly likes to move about abit, but hey thats really also driving it down the 1/4. BIG BALLS MATE!!!
I just love the way it spins 'em up for the entire 400 metres! Imagine the fun you'd have on the street? Fuckin' choice as chips bro!
The battery in the boot sits inside the bowls bag :)
Great stuff and a neat job!, my late great godmother would love this !, she was a lawn bowler!
Drag racing/boat racing. that things all over the place. I like it.
LOVE WHAT YOU DID TO THE CAR.AWSOME.
Man that looks like a wild ride down the strip
awesome build and crazy drag footage
This is a proper sleeper....well done
Simply Stunning!
great vid, that thing would be awesome to drive,
one question are they slicks with radials up front? I wonder if thats why its a handfull in the strip?
Nice example of the dat dat !!! Lol love the am radio & number plates!!!
So, how long will a bone stock VG30 last on 26PSI?
Beautiful and scary at the same time! looks like you need to know what you're doing to pilot this thing... super cool build thou
The HT in the other lane must be a beast of a sleeper.
Yeeeeeeees. My first car was a 120y 2 door, it annihilated my mates mk2 escorts and Chevettes. Finally recognition of a true 1st car great. well done for creating the weapon it deserved to be. Boooyahhhh.
My father have this car , but it's still old rusty cause our family don't have the money to repair it , and I really wish it could on the road again one day exactly like in the video
such an awesome little datto.
I remember in my childhood these used to be taxis and the leg room at the back was terribly tight, I hated the car like hell
wow.. that car will turn more heads than most new model cars. 120y or the egg shape 120y
he needs slicks with SIDEWALLS. haha. crazy! never seen such squirly run. Kool !
No to sidewalls. Sidewalls are for bommadores
Maybe try putting that left hand back on the steering wheel a bit more? It might help with not being all over the track through the first three gears.
Faaarrrkk that looked like a real handful down the track. Wonder how fast it would be if it went straight...lol..reckon it did an extra 100 yards. Motor was ace and looked real smart in the engine bay. Nice sleeper there lads.
Love it, great work!
Looks like he's trying to drift it not drag it. Would be a lot faster if it could actually lay the power down in a straight line.
That's a great sleeper if ever I saw one!
That thing is just dangerous.....and cool as hell. Does it spin the entire quarter?
More like 1/2 mile time with all that serpentining
I love what the aussies can do with cars, and this is another nice example. To all the haters:come to Holland were the only car loving thing nowadays seems to be your bragging neighbor on his Opel or VW company car......
Better than bowling balls on the back parcel shelf is bowling hats. More recognizable from a distance. No need to bolt them down either!
Don't see many of these anymore.......cool even without the v6....credit to where credits due.
need a wing on that thing man, to give down force on the rear,it's all over the track.
Jorn Navarre and a cold track probably doesn't help much
Amazing ! nice sleeper and nice video !
Nice to see someone using LPG. Its such a great fuel for turbo engines.
Have you considered changing to Liquid LPG injection?
It acts like a huge intercooler as your injecting a cryogenic liquid straight into your inlet ports.
LPG is the way of the future!
Granny has some muscle tone! And I note the Datto has lost its original exhaust note of a "fart in a tin can".
That engine bay is fukn MINT !!
Awesome job......
jeezus! . .. now if you could keep it in a straight line ....
Datsun !!! Never bet againts them.....
cute little car. not the best looking but they were reliable and kind of fun, my older friend had one. best looking when unmodified (on the outside)
awesomeness
poor old Dorothy has gone wobbly in the back end.
This is a demonstration of how to go 1/4 mile and 50 feet on a 1/4 mile track.
Bowling balls on the parcel shelf to stop it getting flighty at speed!!
Wouldn't want to race against this guy. Might get slammed in the side with all that wiggling down the strip.
caduceus33 was gunna say the same thing. Cool car but no place sharing the road or track without some more work in the handling department.
No, your problem is the ones going perfectly straight, they don't know what to do when it doesn't. How is this going to creep up on him it is already moving everywhere, he expects it.
All the Datsun's we sold back in the 1970's had Nissan on the engine block. Were
Datsun and Nissan one and the same company?
Datsun is a brand Nissan created when they were first breaking into the American market. If the Datsun product flopped they didn't want it to damage the Nissan name. Eventually the company dropped the Datsun badge and later created the Infinity brand for their "luxury" products.
Dorothy the Drag Queen....Car and Driver.....He gets a firm grip on his knob, turned it sideways, and the way he grips and holds his lever on the one two change.....
now that's cool , luv the manual
120Y was built like a coke can, was expecting the engine to rip through the firewall and snap ya femur.
Not the fastest thing down the 1/4, but definitely one of the wildest and scariest. Good thing it's a skinny car, every foot counts when you're eating up that much lane.
The balls are bolted down they aren't going anywhere ;-)
I like the little toushes like the old RACV sticker.
does it have the 8 track tape player in it
Peace and Love.
Ten out of ten for pant-shitting value. Isnt that what this conversion's all about? Leave it how it is!
Japan, land of the rising sun, dat car, dat sun.
Wonder how much faster it'd be if you could keep it in a straight line.
Well done lads.Thanks.
Is that Martys girlfriend Cheryl?
that f'kn rad! love it
Seen this today complete grandma spec stock as until you have a look at the bay
awesome car, get the traction under control and itll go quicker :-)
Brilliant :D Place I worked at in 1992, old chap in the sales room had one of these in red, totally stock but was mint in every way, not a spec of rust anywhere.
Only thing I am a bit unsure about on this sleeper is that It seems skittish, kinda looks like it wants to veer off violently. Is this a problem or just too much power in such a light car?
Also cracked up at the woman's face at the gas station LOL!
What kinda runs were they???
No way you would run against that with it all over the track like that.
Where did this car end up?
The steering box is a bit crap on those 120Ys as well as the early Corollas. Loose as all hell.
I have this car and want to restore it. Guide me I'm from Pakistan
Nice video Luke! :-)
leave the line like that and no cage...... I like it
Needs a 8 track stereo system.
HAHAHA, mad vid, car looks mint Scotty.
