Just a thought; I am so tired of a larger portion of the videos on youtube, especially tutorial's - where you are trying to understand & learn the mechanics of a game are denied by the host playing top-forty jock on AM radio. Blaring speed-metal musak (sic) and the narrator trying to impress his "crowd" (subscribers) by sounding "cool / hip" or whatever infantile crap it is. On the other hand you MICHAEL BROSCHEK were the complete opposite. I felt like I was back in college with a calm relaxed learning environment. You weren't rambling on in-comprehensible gibberish - thank you for that. Its appreciated more than you know. So many of us had to suffer in silence while some 18 yr. old plays "Grand-Master Flash" in these tutorials, that I often surrender to the "wasteland" - in pure frustration. As soon as I am bombarded with any type of speed-metal - or other crap: I move on - can't learn in that environment. The rest (read: vast majority) should take a page out of your book. Thoughtful, calm, comprehensible. Thanks once again for a superb-job. And please - keep up the superior instructional tutorials, there is a pressing need for this material. On behalf of the silent majority - "thanks".
Thank you. Michael! I know exactly what you mean.. I started doing these tutorials because all the others I found at the time were those bad ones you mentioned. It annoyed me quite a bit that those so called 'tutorials' often weren't tutorials at all and/or were very low quality with no effort put into them... when I looked at them I just got the urge to try and do better and actually go in with a plan instead of just rambling on or leaving out important things. Comments like yours really make me happy because it means I achieved what I set out to do here. Hopefully I'll get some videos out again when Hearts of Iron 4 ships :-) Until then, thanks, good luck and have fun!
No music at all would be best, then one can concentrate completely on what the teacher is saying, you don't have music playing when you are in a lecture theater. or seminar room.
I'm so glad I found these videos. I've been considering finally trying to crack HoI3, and your videos have been the very thing to motivate me and educate me on how manage it!
Hey HSTIO! Glad to see you're still around :-) I hear so many good things about Black Ice that I'm definitely planning to check it out. I've been thinking about doing mod showcase videos for a while, where I just show a mod in action and explain what it brings to the table. Black Ice is the main target for that. I'm sure it's not something that can be easily explored and summed up though so it may take a while. I have no experience with HoI3 mods so far.
Thanks to your superb videos I am getting to fully understand the mechanics and can really enjoy the gameplay! Without these videos I doubt I would ever have been able to play a single game with any sense of achievement. Thanks for your continued efforts...now if only we could get you to take a look at AGEODs Civil War 2....
Michael, great to have you back providing more detailed information on one of my favorite games. Don't worry about the advertisements, it's a minor annoyance and well worth watching to get another HOI3 video. Have you considered branching out and doing a video on one the mods? I've basically stopped playing vanilla HOI3 and now only play Black Ice.
Michael, I've said this before, but you really are very good at this - it's a combo of your great radio voice, succinctness, pacing and the right focus - lot's of LP channels out there do how to play guides, but nobody I've heard comes close to the quality of this stuff. You could easily make a top game guide channel IMO but you'd need to do a lot more games and a whole lot more vids - and screw your life and day job for a couple of years to build the following I guess before it pays the bills.
Glad to see u back. The sound quality is good and the quality of the video or rather of all your videos is so high, that i recommend you monetise them. They are easily the best way to get into HoI. And their are a lot more great Paradox Titles which suffer from bad tutorials, something you could change to the benefit of everyone.
Something else needs be said in conjunction with supply as supply is a function of infrastructure, so to is the rate at which your units regain organization. Both of these functions are important in planning an attack. Not only that you have enough supply for your units but that you also have higher infrastructure behind your units than your enemy has.In this case your units can regain organization faster than the enemy can which allows you to continue pushing his out of org forces. Consider having a second line of resting fresh units which rotate out with the front line forces. Always retreating your out of org units to a good infrastructure tile to quickly get back in the fight. It is also worth building infrastructure behind your front lines to keep your front mobile and well supplied.
And once you master that then the air attack mission attack infrastructure becomes useful. In an area like China that already has very low infrastructure you can drop it to zero with air attacks effectively neutralizing any units in that tile. Of course it also hurts you when you advance into that tile and will take significant time to rebuild that infrastructure for your own units to get supplied after you capture it. So use this method with an eye toward your advance. Keep your advance route as open as possible. Reduce the flank areas to zero so as to protect your flanks from attack.
Thank you very much, Gregor! I'll try to make something at least a bit more often, and branch out to other games in some form. There's just not really a plan for this channel... things just happen :-) I just feel sorry for my subscribers who get so few videos from me. Hardly seems worth subscribing to a channel that brings out 2 videos a year :P So thanks to you and all subs! Thanks for your support and forgive me for not giving you the amount of content you deserve!

I just got this game and was overwhelmed with the detail. Because there is so much micro management continuously going on, I didn't see how it correlated to the bigger picture, hindering me from making a strategy or doing anything at all. Your tutorial has been very helpful and made me confident to start playing this game. Seeing as you have been playing for about three years, would you be so kind to make a strategy tutorial? What macrostrategy to take is difficult to decide when you just start out. And another question: if you click on a province in the mapmode, and create IC there, is that worth the effort? Or is IC better improved by research while using IC on other (more valuable) construction projects?
I'd like to help but I haven't been playing for a while unfortunately. I was never particularly good at HOI3 so I don't feel comfortable giving people strategic advice (that's why I didn't make any strategy videos yet) Once you're at that level where you know how to play the game but are not sure what to do with your knowledge, you're better served with the forums or let's plays/AARs to see what other people are doing and go from there. As far as I know building IC can be a viable strategy for some countries but you must start in 1936 and start right away. Thanks to how practical knowledge works, subsequent production runs will be much faster so you can greatly increase your industry. Those fears might be unfounded, and I do want to try it at some point, just not sure what game and when. Probably wouldn't want to start with something as complex as Hearts of Iron where I'm bound to make stupid mistakes and miss things... Maybe I'm just worrying too much but I can't help it :-( Let me know what you think, and thanks for your interest.
Apocalyptic Gamer I will if I feel I can make good videos as a Let's Play. I just don't know yet as it requires a different skillset than my scripted tutorials. I could be good at tutorials but suck at LPs (more specifically: live commentary). At some point I will try a LP of some sort for myself and see if I'm any good at it, and if I am happy with the result, then there will be a HoI4 LP.

Probably wouldn't want to start with something as complex as Hearts of Iron where I'm bound to make stupid mistakes and miss things...
Maybe I'm just worrying too much but I can't help it :-(
Let me know what you think, and thanks for your interest.
Michael Broschek But you will make a LP on HoI4?
Apocalyptic Gamer I will if I feel I can make good videos as a Let's Play. I just don't know yet as it requires a different skillset than my scripted tutorials.
I could be good at tutorials but suck at LPs (more specifically: live commentary).
At some point I will try a LP of some sort for myself and see if I'm any good at it, and if I am happy with the result, then there will be a HoI4 LP.
Good video :)
Uhh fuel??
Michael, great to have you back providing more detailed information on one of my favorite games. Don't worry about the advertisements, it's a minor annoyance and well worth watching to get another HOI3 video. Have you considered branching out and doing a video on one the mods? I've basically stopped playing vanilla HOI3 and now only play Black Ice.
Please I need help. I have been playing for czechoslovakia and after Japan declared war on me my units suddenly lost all organization and their "Supplied from" changed from Prague to ???. Any ideas?
