The reason you need to use the rubber gromet, if you use 1200s, technics or 1210. Over time, the tonearm can definitely get some corrosion. I know this because I had1 with, 1 without, the 1 without got stuck and after a while I couldt get it out as easy, and when I did, it had a corrosive like stain. The gromet prevents this. They do need changing over a longtime but they serve an important purpose long term. You also should never overtighten your carts.
This actually happened to my brother in law's Technics 1200 Mk2. Where the tonearm gets connected to the headshell there was corrosion. White stuff like when a battery leaks. Was tough to clean and now music doesn't play on the left channel. Ugh.
It's best to put thread locker on the cart connection and tighten at 10lbs or torque. Then it will never come loose. You only need to change the tip anyway so no need to remove the cartridge.
I’m stoked that audiotechnica addressed the anti skate issues in the older 120 model and came out with the 120x. It’s also pretty cool that they made a super OEM twin brother, the LP140x. Which is more, technicsy than their LP-1240
Biggest problem is the fixed overhang of 52 mm. If you own a PLX-1000, you'll see a misalignment of 2 mm since this specific deck/tonearm is set up for 54 mm.
Sorry, let me elaborate, when you scratch and back cue, you use a slipmat and a slip sheet, so the platter continues to spin under the record, you don’t actually want to stop the platter while the motor is going. Any scratching/back cuing is going to cause some wear on the motor, but fully stopping it and moving it against the torque is really really bad
Record-ology no problem bro, I’d hate to see you hurt a decent turntable haha. I rocked an LP120 for a while, it served me well until I could finally afford a technics. Now a days I use it for ripping LP’s to my computer, the USB output makes it super handy for that
Record-ology You can make a slipsheet out of wax paper by putting the mat on top and tracing/cutting out a circle the same size as your mat, then put that down on the platter under your felt mat and give it a go; you should be able to stop the record fully with your hand and still feel the platter spin smoothly under the record. I’ve heard if people “thumbing” the platter to slow it down, but I don’t see any reason for that if you have a deck with a pitch fader.
If you want the look but only use it for listening buy the new Concorde Music line. I bought the Ortofon Concorde Music Blue and it's pretty good. Not better than the AT-VM95ML in sound quality but look wise I love the Concorde style. I also have the CLUB MK2 and the ATVM95ML is better than that too.
I had an AT95E (or whatever comes with an ATLP120X) and It broke so now I’m looking to either replace the needle or upgrade cartridges. I’m not into DJing, just listening and am if I do upgrade I’m debating beteeen this or the Super OM10. Any idea which is better? If it helps, I have Edifier 1280T speakers
They are literally made for that turntable. But buy the one you use the table for. If you only listen for hifi buy the Music Line if you want the Concorde look. Only get the DJ parts if you DJ otherwise there is so many better carts for the money that sound better
I've always thought the Concorde cartridges were sexy as all get-out. Unfortunately, never had the pleasure of owning one. At this stage of the game, wiill have to settle for admiring them from afar.
@@Recordology For playback it can be set to the balance weight, but for DJ purposes e.g. back cueing like in the video its going to unevenly wear the record's grooves as it is pulled back.
Not at all. Anti- skate should be set to 0 or half of the tracking force only when scratching. Otherwise anti-skate should be the same as tracking force when listening regularly.
@@Recordology I spoke with vestax and they said that straight arms were not desigined for sound quality with any cart... But as lond as its spherical then it will work fine... Opinions?
Record-ology I’m so glad to hear that your motors okay, I assumed it probably would be; doing that once almost certainly won’t kill it. That LP-120x is a decent deck, and totally up to the task of scratching if you use a slip sheet and a good mat. It doesn’t have as much torque as some of the other DJ oriented decks, but as long as you use a plastic slip sheet under the felt mat that it came with you’ll be good to go.
Got mine today. So happy with it. Should have upgraded years ago. Huge improvement in sound quality on my technics 1200s.
Nice! Mine is about to be delivered. Big step up from my 680's i've been rocking for years.
Bro, you should never scratch without a real slipmat, you’re destroying the motor.
Slipmat + slip sheet + platter polished with car wax = ultrasmooth 👌
But scratching at all damages the record doesn’t it?

Yeah, sucks ass that I bought mine a decade ago and the anti-skate doesn't work at all.
Bummer.
6:03 wow, that's a big skip! Is there any video on RUclips which can explain me how to prevent the skips, I can't find any!
Biggest problem is the fixed overhang of 52 mm. If you own a PLX-1000, you'll see a misalignment of 2 mm since this specific deck/tonearm is set up for 54 mm.
So if y buy these needles they dont work right for a pair of plx1000?

I can't believe a did that......

Such a nice piece of equipment, will get one eventually
Bought a couple of these for the lp120! super stoked

Thanks for helpful review. Saw these on Amazon for $121. May splurge on it in a bit. Hopefully this works on my Technics 1200 Mk 2.

What is the height of tone arm?
Great as always dude.
Thank you so much!
Can it used on atlp3 tonearm?
Unfortunately no - has to go on an S shaped tone arm.

Hi, I have a question with the LP120x: Am I the only one whose Start/Stop Button is wobbling around?
How much?
@@Recordology The button you push down wiggles inside the black frame. Because of that, you can hear squeaking noises when pushing the button.
Good for juggling?
I heard for this concorde model the anti skate should be set to 0 not match the counter balance setting?
Oh really?

So can you not use any Concordes with a straight tone arm???
Correct.

❌✅ is it moving coil or moving magnetic ❓
4g tracking force is it for dvs?
This is for DJs....
great stuff..brilliant vid...off to work...cheers..ade
Have a good day!
Cool cartridge! Scratching looks like fun, but it reminds me of fingernails on the chalkboard.
Lol agreed!
Looks cool.
Agreed! Very cool design!
I bought one cause I hate aligning and inner groove distortion...
I agree!
It looks like a pointed jet airplane.
What I was gonna say 🤣
Thats why is called Ortofone "Concorde", like the french supersonic passenger jet airplane.
Slip mat?.. 🤨
Ouch! That must've hurt the motor...
Motor survived! :)

It's MILLI-VOLT and not MICRO-VOLT or VOLT
Putting a Ortofon Concord Mk 2 on a audio technica, smh are you insane broski! dude you need a Technic 1200 mk2 or mk3d etc. And a real slip mat.
Lol broski - whats wrong with the AT?
