This is why people trust Hyram so much. How many times as a consumer have you bought something only to later find out that your values don’t align with those of the product’s manufacturer? It takes courage to change and grow and better yourself to become a responsible, honest consumer. Love you so much, Hyram. You’re the best x
I’m new to this channel and everyone is pretty positive about his review. Is he really trusted though? I’ve been getting few of videos and confused, is he like a dermatologist or esthetician? I’m kinda hesitant in trusting his reviews.
UPDATE: The response to this video has been a bit overwhelming to say the least. I never imagined it would receive this much attention. Thank you to all who have messaged me detailing your personal experiences, I value your honesty. For all of you inquiring: Tiffany, the founder of Drunk Elephant, reached out to me personally to discuss all that was stated in my video. We talked on the phone for close to 2 hours. While I stand by everything that was said in the video, I appreciated her vulnerability and authenticity during the conversation. She informed me of plans and strategies she has to internalize the feedback I provided, and I plan to closely view the behaviors of the brand to see what happens. However, I maintain that my stance towards DE will only shift when I see positive changes being made from the brand to customers. In the meantime, I believe that no matter what a brand/person has done in the past: *we should celebrate progress in any form.* Positive reinforcement is always better than negative, and I think we should respectfully and peacefully push for positive change. I hope at one point to be able to reintroduce DE products into my regiment, but in the meantime, I will watch and remain optimistic that changes will be made. Augustine. C remember when they went nuts though...? They did/said similar things to what Hyram was talking about DE doing in this vid! These skincare companies all need to lift their game...
I think the old brand owner committed suicide. He had really serious mental issues and it finally made sense to me why the Instagram page was crazy while the old CEO was running it
I didn’t know what drunk elephant was and when I saw the title I thought this was going to be an accountability video with you opening up about an alcohol problem.
Ive worked at Sephora since 2007. It was popular when in launched due to how clean it was and packaging. Now no adult purchases it. Young girls 10-16 come in and steal it or make a freaking mess with it making"smoothies" and gloping it all over the place.
As someone who literally just discovered your channel this evening, and has now binged approximately ten of your videos in a row, I have got to say: you have got to be one of the kindest, most empathetic, honest, and well-spoken RUclips personalities I’ve ever seen. I love me some snark and shade, but there’s something very refreshing about the way you deliver criticism even in your comedic videos. You always manage to temper your criticisms with empathy and a morally unambiguous sort of humor - I think the key is that I have never once seen you attack or berate a person/creator/company on a personal level, but instead you make in-depth, well-reasoned comments on the specific problematic or dangerous behaviors those people/creators/companies are exhibiting. You don’t make fun of people - you just honestly try to teach them. And while, as I said, I love me some good, old-fashioned snark, there’s just something so incredibly lovely, and genuine, and refreshing about your approach. Basically, all that is to say I’ll definitely be watching your channel from now on. As someone who has always been VERY lazy about my own skin, you have made me want to actually start using a skincare routine. Thank you, both for the entertainment, and for the genuinely informative content!
Serephina Fae I too have just found this channel and absolutely love it! I just saw this older video and wanted to say exactly what you said. Since I couldn’t have said it more eloquently, I’m adding my ❤️ to your comment. Thank you for saying it so well!
When I contacted Drunk Elephant for skincare ideas, they told me to buy their $90 minis kit (even though I’d told them what I’d tried already from it). When I contacted The Ordinary, the gave me a full day & night skincare routine 😍
Same! I contacted them using their deceim website and I talked about my oily and uneven skin tone bc of pimples and even attached a photo of me and my mom's skin conditions! They gave us a regimen and gave a brief overview of what will it do to our skin and they also did not recommend unnecessary skin-care/kits that would probably blow my bank account lol. They really have good customer service!
I loved The Ordinary customer support. I put in a request to chat on their website and sent a message with all my concerns and a Deciem (the parent company) ambassador sent me a full regime from TO and their other brands and actually encouraged me to use a moisturizer from another brand they’re not affiliated with which felt so genuine
Glossier may not be perfect but their customer service was amazing. They were thankful for my critiques (some big hits some big misses imo), refunded immediately any products in question, opened the dialog with warmth. They gave me the time of day with grace and humility, said the input was very valuable. And you know what, despite the misses, I ordered from them again. That relationship makes so much difference.
Caitlin I’ve seen some slightly positive change in their answers to customers. Even tried myself to ask them a question about irritation I got from using tlc Framboos and they answered politely, I’m impressed lol they seem to have realized they were wrong
As a future therapist, he really addressed this problem in such a respectful and reasonable manner. There seriously needs to be more people like Hyram out there. Thank you for all that you do! Wishing you the best out of your success!
What are you taking in school? I keep thinking that's what I should study for and what classes in highschool helped you the most for your college / university programs?
Whitney Henry Im a therapist went to school for 6 years with a bachelors in social work and a masters in social work. You must get a masters degree to be competent and provide mental health support. At least in California so get a bachelors in any area of social sciences and then get your masters in one of the following: social work, school counseling, or psychology! Good luck it’s a rewarding career ♥️
T BORI sameeee!!! I had an allergic reaction in store when one of their employees tested a body massage bar on me and my skin turned red/itchy and broke out in hives in front of him. I told the employee my skin is burning and feels really itchy I think I’m allergic to something in this, and he straight out said that’s impossible . I was shocked. I washed my whole arm and walked out of lush with a horrible allergic reaction on my arm! I don’t use any lush products anymore!
As a former lush employee, I'm so sorry you guys had that experience! I was trained to always ask people what their allergies were before putting any products onto the skin, so the fact that they flat out said it was "impossible" to be allergic is as dumb as it is harmful.
Woah! I don’t know if Lush is different around the world? But every time I visit lush in the U.K., I have found staff very polite, kind and open to listening to me and what I want and need.
You are so incredibly gracious, kind, well-spoken and succinctly summed up exactly how I feel. I have recommended them for years, attended their UK launch party and continually used their products, including them in empties videos and my routines for years before they even launched over here. Everything you say is true. I officially asked for a response to Nathan’s behaviour via their PR, and was told ‘there is no response’. That was the official response. ‘We’re not going to say anything’. So to me, that is a full endorsement of him being completely dismissive of me and my expertise, and also happily endorsing his behaviour afterwards when he posted the Taylor Swift picture. All eyes are on this brand as they are looking to sell, and if they do sell to a Lauder or a L’Oreal, they will have to engage in a grown-up manner with their customers. That unprofessional, taking-everything-personally-shit does not fly with corporate. Their days of acting like they are owned by a wealthy, privileged white woman from Texas will be numbered. Thank you for your support.
Caroline Hirons I appreciate you and Hyram speaking out about these issues. I’ve personally never had any interaction with Drunk Elephant or their customer service department, so learning of their treatment of paying customers was surprising. I thought it in poor taste, to say the least, when I saw the comments made about you that you shared on Insta. The dismissal of your expertise, along with the unsatisfactory treatment of the people that are contributing to their paychecks, is enough for me to look elsewhere for my skincare products. Thank you both for so eloquently and respectfully putting this information out there so that people like me can make informed decisions. No one is above learning and growth-I hope that in the future, they can learn to take respectful criticism and use it to further their growth as a brand or as humans. Thank you both for being so lovely and so professional, as well as so knowledgeable. ❤️
What's the most hypocritical about this DE and Nathan R situation is that, Nathan R used to be part of the beautypedia team, and made a name for himself by "giving constructive criticism" (aka trashing) brands like SkinCeuticals which has been a pioneer in the industry in many ways with their own research and clinical studies to back up their claims (unlike DE). Yet somehow when the tables turn, he can't handle a little bit of different opinion, I wonder why.
Exactly! You can have the best and cleanest ingredients on the planet in your products and someone can still have a reaction. People have all kinds of allergies and sometimes they are so random you don't know what they are until you encounter it. Hell, I'm allergic to dental cement!
Their glycolic serum made me break out whenever I used it. I always thought it was something with my skin instead of the product until I realized it only happened when I used it.
@@NM-od3cr I have the retinol with squalene, but see no improvements with that, but I have not seen anything else, I will go on there, but do you happen to know what it is called?
Maritza so true. I got the free samples (protini cream and jelly cleanser) they are the most okay items ive ever used. Thank god I didn’t spend money on it
Now that DE belongs to Sephora I wonder if Hyram will break his distribution of his oroducts from Sephora. I have issues with Sephora's customer service. I hate seeing small companies being gobbled up.
*WORD to all of this. Thank you SO MUCH FOR SPEAKING UP and being a living example that actions speak louder than words, or snarky instagram DMS. Appreciate you!!*
This seems to be a widely used “template” by many people and platforms these days... there is no such thing as the truth even when it’s right there for the world to see...
take it from an immunologist and allergist that when a brand states that their products are not the cause of any irritation they don't know what they're talking about. RUN. hahaha
This was my experience with them, too. Their eye products gave me really bad milia. My eye area was completely covered. Their response was I was lying and I was using other products. I wasn't because I specifically use one product at a time since I have very sensitive skin. All of my comments were deleted and I'm now blocked on their website.
Agreed! Even purified water can cause severe irritation (to the point of hospitalisation!) in some people! So surely items with more than water in can cause problems!
There are people on the planet who are allergic to water. It’s physically impossible to make a product that NOBODY could POSSIBLY have a reaction to. Such an irresponsible and arrogant thing to say about your products. Someone having a reaction is not necessarily an indication of a bad product - it just means that product doesn’t suit that one person! Outrageous.
Rather than a skincare line (because there are so so many already) I think he should publish a book that compiles all of his skincare tips and philosophies
Senna Taylor i mean just because they’re many skincare lines out there doesn’t mean he create one, like there’s many makeup lines but more are releasing.
Once you remove even one person from your PR list for giving honest feedback - (And not even about the product itself), you lose ALL credibility. How can anyone trust ANY positive reviews of your product, or for that matter, trust the people providing them, when they are so scared to say otherwise. This is why people have trust issues about influencers and sponsorships. Thank you so much for doing this honest video, sharing your experience, and using your platform to demonstrate integrity.
@@jenathent4840 if formulators were to create products that are designed just to prevent potential irritation, then all products would be mild and catered for sensitive skin only and that's not the majority. Everybody has options and there are beautiful products designed exclusively for persons with sensitive skin and those that aren't and work beautifully for people with resilient skin. Everything in the right concentration can be irritating- even water.
Andrea Ha nope plant oils like sunflower, canola etc can oxidize and spoil the whole formulation causing irritation on the skin. Dr dray has made multiple videos discussing this.
This seems like a breakup video. When you love someone so much- they leave or let you down. Drunk Elephant let you down :( But it is okay! We all are here to support you and love you! We will never let you down! Lots of love and well wishes Hyram!!!!
i just watched Dr Dray’s review (professional/ dermatologist), there really is NOTHING special about drunk elephant. :(. I'd say the elephants are not drunk...the people in charge are.
Tilly Fergusson because she is a professional on her field, and no one should be judged by their illnesses. You know anorexia is a disorder right? That woman owes no explanation to anyone
I love you so much! The fact that influencers fear giving honest reviews of a product because of what the brand will do if they don’t like the review tells me all I need to know about the brand. I am getting into the skincare game. I have found many influencers that you can almost feel like they are saying more to make the brand sound good than trying to share good information. You speak from the heart and I so respect the fact that you stood up for all of us. You will flourish because you care about people and the earth. Drunk Elephant will eventually fail because the seem to only respect themselves as the end all be all of skincare. I will not support a company that doesn’t care about their customers no matter what they sell. Much love and hugs!
❤️I just wanted to say Hyram, if you are the future of influencers I could not be happier. You are honest, insightful and respectful. I am proud to support your channel and know that there is a bright future for you in the skin care industry. Best of luck and I am glad to watch you grow as and amazing influencer ❤️
Kasie Bell right? 🤣🤣 Reminds me of George on Seinfeld (if you’re familiar with the show). He loved working at Kruger’s Industrials because the owner didn’t care what was going on 🤪🤣🤣
Technically speaking they probably use a 3rd party vendor for their first level of customer service and will only escalate to their internal staff if it can’t be resolved and is important enough to them.
@@kaym7704 while that's true, the industry does do this & it should be considered common knowledge...it's the use of social media in their response to consumers that's a huge problem & liability for them...
I love that you aren’t feeding into cancel culture and are just sharing your thought and knowledge for people to take from that what they will! It’s almost as if media has caused us to forget how to share thoughts and make decisions for ourselves without forcefully projecting them into others.
Companies like this arent going to do well with GenZ that generation cares about ethics and the small things that go into a company. They will literally boycott a company until they go out of buisness if they dont have good buisness ethics and actually show genuine care and respect for the consumer.
@@tisheyyates7859 I'm a millennial and I have just so much respect for Gen Z. Y'all speak your minds and stand up for people who have been oppressed, whether it benefits you or not. This generation is called weak and snowflake, but I think y'all are kind, caring and compassionate, but at the same time, do NOT take bullshit from prejudiced and mean people 💕
Wow!! You are wise well beyond your years! Trust me, I'm 55. You make people my age seem completely ignorant of customer service. You are amazing! Even though your channel doesn't exactly cater to my skin type, I love watching your videos. Your scruples are far and above those of greater age. I don't think anyone that knows you could believe that you in any way condone their practices! You're amazing!!
I was always “suspicious” about DF because their “suspicious six” list has no scientific rooting. And, I’m sorry, $90 for Marula oil that the ordinary sells for $9! There is no way it is 10x better or more ethical or more anything.
The Ordinary actually changed my skin lol I think I have about 70%-75% of all of their products and more than half of my regular skincare routine is The Ordinary :)
You aren’t missing anything , it’s just meh. Just another company that has convinced people it’s fabulous because of cute packaging and expensive. There will always be people who think that the more expensive things are, the better they are. Whatever. It’s their money they are wasting.
lmao i LOVE when a person or company reacts to criticism with "ugh you're so negative", instead of addressing concerns, it basically proves all the criticism is right.
I know you’ll probably never read this, but thank you so much for your honesty and openness. Your transparency and respect for your followers is why you’re at the top of my list for any skincare recommendations. A big part of any community is having unity, so nothing but praise from me 🥰
I could never put my finger on it, but I sensed something was “off” about this brand. They clearly exude a sense of superiority and patronize customers. Never supported them before and definitely won’t ever now. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with you. Actually, I think Hiram said that this response was from the CEO, Tiffany. Still, even if she was busy, it couldn’t hurt to add a simple “Thank you for reaching out to us” and encourage Hyram to look up the differences (since she may not have time to explain the whole thing herself).
This video is just another examples of why I love you’ you do care about us! Mot only have you made my skin very very much better but you care about us all even those who give you hate! You are a very good person despite all you have been through and it’s refreshing to me given all I go through that you are here to help me! I really appreciate this and all your tips and ease of buying products because I am legally bling and partially deaf and have super bad balance right now so the links are helpful and you never try to push all the expensive products on us! Yes they are recommendations sometimes but if your saving for that one and limiting on others it helps! Thank you so much!
If you didn't speak about it, we wouldn't know. And I don't want to give my hard earned money to a brand that does not value customers' opinion. Courtesy should not be an option. Thank you ♥️
If Hyram started a college where we just sit and listen to him talk about skincare and then we get to try them and experiment with them throughout the courses, sign me up.
Please stop taking this kids advice. He is in no way educated in skin care. He gives advice on what works for his skin. His advice on essential oils being in skin care is totally false. Essential oils have many many skin benefits! He is not licensed in skin care, and should stop what he’s doing with this channel.
The quality and professionalism in this drag, I stan! This is what you call a corporate read! I appreciate the honesty and transparency and I can tell how genuine you are ❤️
You are so unbelievably well spoken and intelligent. I hope you start a business one day, because I would purchase whatever it is just because you care so much about people and care about being a good human. ❤️❤️❤️
The arguing is so true. I commented on IG that I had returned Slaai and disliked it and they basically treated me like a troll. I was in complete disbelief that my favorite brand had treated me so nastily.
Their products aren’t recommended by a dermatologist on RUclips (Dr Dray). Instead of dupes, look for skincare that actually works, is affordable, and is simple.
Worst part is, like you, Caroline has RAVED about DE for years and likely made them tens of thousands, she only disliked this one formula of one product and has been a huge supporter of their products.
I would love to see Hyram discuss how certain skincare brands treat their employees. I wish there was more information on this topic, because i think its important to buy skincare that not only treat customers right, but also their employees. From my own personal experience, and from others in the industry, its certainly a taboo topic, and frowned upon to speak up if a brand is mistreating their employees.
Hyram is a perfect example of how to address an issue in a classy, well though out, manner, whilst simultaneously distancing yourself from said person and or brand. 👏🏽
Drunk Elephant has been one of the most over hyped, over priced brand since it came out. It is not worth the amount of money that they charge when you can get the same for WAY less. According to a Cosmetology Dermatologist and Dermatologist, anything over $25 for a product is overpriced and you are just paying for name. The main ingredients in skin care are all the same and can only be shuffled around so much. I listened to Dr.Dray and she saved me so much money and I got the results I needed with out spending ridiculous amounts of money and the hype of the beauty industry, and the fact that beauty gurus don't know jack sh!+ about skincare and cause more harm then good with their sponsorship.
LethalRed yes! Dr. Dray opened my eyes so much about all of the marketing schemes of pricey items and ingredients that either harmed or did nothing for your skin.
As a millennial, I’m so happy to see someone young responsible and intelligent on the internet. I’m 30 and “back in my day” my skin was run over by PCOS hormonal wars and the bleach prescriptions my mom gave me. Learning so much from you and Cassandra Bankson. I have hope now with some ceramide retinols and moisturizer to look 30 forever... still not good enough, as you will look 18 forever 😩😂
Hyram thank you for pointing out what kind of company they are. Its really important to me to know that the money i give to a company have value and respect. I never purchased a product from them but i was actually thinking of buying one today, thank God i saw your video. Im never buying Drunk Elephant and i make sure i let people know about them. Cheers. Keep up the good work!
It's a shame that large companies always tend to forget that it's us, the consumers, who invest so much in them and make them who they are today. By disrespecting their real bosses, they can always fall back to where they began in a snap. Btw, you'll make a perfect PR considering you're one of the sweetest youtuber i've ever seen. You're just so peaceful with your language even when u're pissed with something/someone. Respect.
When I heard their ideals about how they’re the only brand that doesn’t give you reactions, I emptied my basket. My skin is very sensitive and a lot of their products have citric acid in their formulas (the component my skin usually reacts worse to). It’s very unprofessional and unreasonable for you to state ALL your products won’t give ANYONE reactions and call your customers liars when they tell you otherwise. 🤷🏼♀️
I feel you. My skin hates everything that isnt mild and gentle. I hate having to research an ingredient list and settle for aveeno and cerave because I know most, if not all, of their products wont irritate it. If they do my boyfriend gets the products and hes always excited about a moisturizer

I really want to buy the ordinary. But they are sold out everywhere!

Reminds me of lush when I told them I was allergic and they told me it was impossible. How can a brand tell you if you’re allergic or not?
Lush smells too strong. I thought they are made out of 100% fragrance. My nose hurt when i enter their shop

Can I like this comment a hundred times? Tiffany is an absolute (slaai) salad.
i never saw this post on your ig story, but as a result i’ll no longer be purchasing DE products
How dare they disrespect Mama Hirons! 😡
“Difference of opinion does not mean a personal attack” 👏🏻👏🏻
#1 reason to avoid a skincare brand: they don’t believe their products could cause any problem. That goes against science and is enormously biased.
As a person with sensative skin who breaks out from so many sensative skin products, I cannot believe they would say this 😳
Exactly! You can have the best and cleanest ingredients on the planet in your products and someone can still have a reaction. People have all kinds of allergies and sometimes they are so random you don't know what they are until you encounter it. Hell, I'm allergic to dental cement!

I personally agree
There are people on the planet who are allergic to water. It’s physically impossible to make a product that NOBODY could POSSIBLY have a reaction to. Such an irresponsible and arrogant thing to say about your products. Someone having a reaction is not necessarily an indication of a bad product - it just means that product doesn’t suit that one person! Outrageous.
People need to do better at knowing their own bodies and doing patch testing before diving into a product

As Dr Dray says, ANYTHING can be an irritant! I'm so surprised that a company of that status and popularity could handle criticism so poorly!
I just came from a Dr Dray video, she's so informative!!!
exactly. and they use plant oils in their formulations which can be incredibly irritating to a lot of people.
@@jenathent4840 they only use non-fragrant plant oils though, so for the most part they should actually be ok.
