Guys, Joseph is SUPPOSED to seem annoying in this song. His character is naive and unaware of how annoying he is, but then as the story goes on he grows as a person through the hardships he endures.
My mom told me this when i watched it as a kid and i was like "he seems cool" but yeah now i can see how he changed after the whole "my siblings sold me to slavery" thing. I imagine that changes a person lol
I love the cheesiness in this musical and how its embraced. 0:58 Jacob just wakes up from being in his own world and askes himself "who the hell is this woman?"

This brings back a lot of memories! We performed this play back in high school in 1996 and I had several parts in it; mainly I played Gad's wife! That was one of the best times of my life!
I don’t think he realised how arrogant he sounded, he was young and didn’t realise he sounded like a brat, he probably meant the coat but it sounded arrogant and rude
@jessicamessica2271 I beg your pardon. How rude, Jess. Maybe some people were denied money for clothes, Tara. We are not all rich with money from Dubai like you. Some of us actually struggle with no money to buy clothes and underwear. Some of us struggle with bills and no maintenance from our ex husbands like you get. You need to see how poor people on the breadline live, like Lorna and myself. Then you will understand.
The last time I heard these songs was when I was 8. 26 now and they still haven't faded from memory. I'm so glad I finally thought to search them up on a whim. Brings back the good days of childhood 🥰
Can't bare to look at the number of dislikes on such a catchy song. I was in this musical some years back and it sure brings some of the greatest memory's.
Memorizing this song not only helped me remember the brothers' names, but I can also now say all the colors of the coat (as long as you don't mind me singing, lol)
Ooooh how I love this song! of Joseph coat of many colors. I had to sing this song on stage. at Melbourne High School during the 1970's. I felt so special giving the opportunity to sing it with my music class. I sang high soprano.

Not really surprising. It's a very old fashioned sort of thing. Might see some grandparents do it one to another, but is much rarer than it used to be.

Well spotted I would never have noticed that

Yeah he is like: I don’t know you, but you could make my 13th son hahaha.
Yeah, I love that he wakes up when she comes up to him!

JACOB AND SONS LYRICS:
Narrator:
Way way back many centuries ago,
Not long after the Bible began
Jacob lived in the land of Canaan,
A fine example of a family man.
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Depended on farming to earn their keep.
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Spent all of his days in the fields with sheep.
Jacob was the founder of a whole new nation
Thanks to the number of children he had
He was also known as Israel, but most of the time
His sons and his wives used to call him Dad.
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Men of the soil, of the sheaf and crook.
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
A remarkable family in anyone's book.
Narrator, Brothers, Female Ensemble & Children:
Reuben was the eldest of the children of Israel
With Simeon and Levi the next in line
Naphtali and Issachar with Asher and Dan
Zebulun and Gad took the total to nine
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Benjamin and Judah, which leaves only one
Jacob, Jacob and sons,

===
JOSEPH'S COAT
Jacob:
Joseph's mother, she was quite my favorite wife
I never really loved another all my life
And Joseph was my joy because
He reminded me of her
Narrator:
Through young Joseph, Jacob lived his youth again
Loved him, praised him, gave him all he could, but then
It made the rest feel second best
And even if they weren’t -
Brothers:
Being told we're also-rans
Does not makes us Joseph fans
Narrator:
But where they had really missed the boat is
Brothers:
We're great guys but no-one seems to notice
Narrator:
Joseph's charm and winning smiles
Failed to slay them in the aisles
And his father couldn't see the danger
He could not imagine any danger
He just saw in Joseph all his dreams come true.
Jacob wanted to show the world he loved his son
To make it clear that Joseph was the special one
So Jacob bought his son a coat
A multi-colored coat to wear
Jacob, Brothers and Female Ensemble:
Joseph's coat was elegant,
The cut was fine
The tasteful style was the
Ultimate in good design
And this is why it caught the eye
A king would stop and stare
Narrator:
And when Joseph tried it on
He knew his sheepskin days were gone
Narrator & Female Ensemble & Children:
Such a dazzling coat of many colors
How he loved his coat of many colors
Narrator:
In a class above the rest
It even went well with his vest
Such a stunning coat of many colors
How he loved his coat of many colors
It was red and yellow and green and brown and
Blue
Joseph's brothers weren't
Too pleased with what they saw
Brothers:
We have never liked him
All that much before
And now this coat
Has got our goat
We feel life is unfair
Narrator, Female Ensemble & Children:
And when Joseph graced the scene
His brothers turned a shade of green
His astounding clothing took the biscuit
Brothers:
Quite the smoothest person in the district
Joseph & Female Ensemble:
I look handsome, I look smart
I am a walking work of art
Such a dazzling coat of colors
How I love my coat of many colors
Narrator, Joseph, Ensemble & Children:
It was red and yellow and green and brown
And scarlet and black and ochre and peach
And ruby and olive and violet and fawn
And lilac and gold and chocolate and mauve
And cream and crimson and silver and rose
And azure and lemon and russet and grey
And purple and white and pink and orange
And red and yellow and green and brown and
Scarlet and black and ochre and peach
And ruby and olive and violet and fawn
And lilac and gold and chocolate and mauve
And cream and crimson and silver and rose
And azure and lemon and russet and grey
And purple and white and pink and orange
And blue
