This song is awesome !! My school is doing this song for our Broadway night !! So fun ! Shoutout to all Hayfield Chorale and Concert Choir members - we got this !
All the music and choreography plus comical moments are so good in this film. Also im still convinced that god was grooving with Joseph after putting those flowers around his neck. Lol
I'm a bit worried that they made God look like Jerry Garcia. 😯😅 Oops, another commenter said that person is his father, Jacob. That makes sense, too. Haha.
I noticed at the start the bars were huge and Joseph could just walk through them. I was mildly amused when the butler did so himself. It is rare to find something so hilarious as when they just *opened the door* to let the baker in.
I find it hysterical how Joseph basically tells the chef "yeah, you're gonna die" and then everybody just starts dancing and singing this upbeat song haha. That poor chef, man, that poor chef. Also wtf that lady singing between the butler's legs? XD I love this movie/musical. Makes sense though, Joseph's interpretations of the dreams. Not sure why they needed him to explain them though lol, to me they were pretty straightforward. Serving the pharaoh wine is obviously a good omen because you're serving wine to the KING OF EGYPT. Meanwhile, a bunch of birds eating all your bread is probably bad because it probably means your luck has run out and you will soon find yourself with nothing. Or death, in the case of the chef lol. Also I find it hilarious how the chef is dressed like your stereotypical modern-day chef but obviously back then I dunno what chefs wore in Egypt but not that lol.
@@finleyforevermore Like in the live-action show? Because I own the recording of the live-action and I don't recall that but then again it's been awhile since I've seen it so I might have to go back and check.
I was fortunate to see the first American production of Joseph at the Ford Theater in the summer of 1980 (4-H trip at the national center in Chevy Chase). Then I saw Donny in the early 90's at the start of this production, they were in Minneapolis to start and were there several months. Great to see how they keep on adding layers of costume and production everytime they do it.
This is like a fever dream. First time I saw it was when my daughter was terribly sick with strep and it was all I found on cable😂. It was like a delirium but it’s so good.
Apparently the Baker is a 60 year old female named Mrs. Smith, while the Butler is a 30 year old male named Mr. Armstrong. That's how it was in The FREE Players' version from 2007.
Joseph is at his lowest point. Even the other slaves feel bad for him. But when they see him demonstrate his gift of dream interpretation, they are amazed and are like “don’t worry Joshep, you’ll go far in life”. They then celebrate with a seventies style disco party. I think this is how people dressed in the seventies.
@@Myself23512 Yes! I like how Andrew Lloyd Webber followed the original bible story so closely, in addition to the modern re-imagining, no details are lost or overlooked. Is the old guy in the Hippy party meant to be.... God? Because... you know how Joseph found God and peace whilst he was in prison and learned to put his trust in the Lord whilst he was in confinement.... Guys, I think the old guy is meant to be God. And he doesn't even have a speaking role lol
In case anyone wants to know the lyrics: The prison walls were wet and black, His chains were heavy, weighed him down The candle was his only light, The hungry rats, the only sound Hey, dreamer, don't be so upset! Hey, Joseph, you're not beaten yet! Go, go, go, Joseph, you know what they say! Hang on now, Joseph, you'll make it someday! Don't give up, Joseph, wait and you'll see! We've been outside, and you're on the marquee!
The lyrics from this song are burned into my head after having to sing it in my year 6 school play. Who's the old guy with the shades dancing at 5:08? Is it supposed to be God?
"Sorry man, you're gonna die"
*Dance party then proceeds*
Strangely, the same applies to Superstar
It’s one of the strangest transitions I’ve ever seen and yet it somehow works
Lmao yessss
In the show, there's a reprise of the "Go, go, go Joseph, you know what they say...", before the big dance starts, so it's not as abrupt.
Afadsdsddvchchhchd@@ungartothemax20166
The moral of this song is that once you tell someone that they will die, you will get your own musical number celebrating you with 90s dancers.
FYI these are not 90's costumes, they are 60's.

Joseph: I can interpret dreams, but I'm not always right
Joseph later: ive interpreted your dream, and ive never been wrong before...

He is saying that he might not have been wrong before but there is the chance that he might be
I absolutely love how each cast member's costume, make-up, and choreography are so detailed in this number despite not having individual screen time.
I feel jealous of all the people who did this in high school theatre. All my high school ever did were pantomimes of Disney movies.
Rowan Fitton omg my middle school did the same 😂😭
I was in this in my high school, my last year. My role in this scene was a member of the "choir". Fun memories!
I’m jealous too I was supposed to do this...😥 but corona..🦠
